Marijuana and kids

It can be vaped with very little smell, and it’s not a pot smell. Kids are doing it in school, heck my friend is an inner city middle school teacher, other teachers come to her classroom when it’s empty and vape it.

Oil pens are big too. No smell and the oils last much longer.

Marijuana has a smell yes. You can smell it in an enclosed car for instance but it doesn’t leave the strong smell that cigarettes do on clothes or even in a house. It just doesn’t.

You mom is using this for her quality of life. Not to get high or for fun.

You said she is housebound so she isn’t driving. Your father is there so, a watchful eye if needed.

The effects of marijuana and alcohol are very different. Personally, it wouldn’t bother me for my 11 to be there as long as she wasn’t smoking in the room with her.

Since she has been smoking as long as she has and your dh didn’t know and your dd doesn’t notice anything odd with grandma, I would say there isn’t anything to worry about.

OMG. Seriously?!
I'm guessing you're reacting to the idea of people (teachers in specific) getting high while at school? (@mjkacmom did not imply the users were vaping for pain relief.) Marijuana use is being legalized in Canada and will be governed similar to alcohol use. There's been a lot of discussion and debate on how to enforce whatever restrictions will still be in place. My company, very sensibly I believe, has determined recreational marijuana use will be governed like drinking - zero tolerance for use at our work place or during working hours. FTR, in the case of medicinal use, it is to be considered like narcotic pain relief - nobody who uses it will be active on our construction sites or allowed to drive company vehicles. Modified duties will be provided if necessary.

Whoa - that's pretty presumptuous and hostile sounding, coming from somebody who's personally sensitive to posters "over-reaching" in threads. :rolleyes1

I didn’t mean for it to sound hostile. Honestly, sorry if it came off that way.

Not sure what you mean by saying. I’m sensitive to overreaching?

My OMG was in reference to teachers doing it on school grounds. Or did I misunderstand your comment?
I was surprised, too, although I don’t know if teachers are allowed to have a glass of wine with work (I’ve never taught, but it was considered normal to go out to lunch on your lunch break and have a drink - I was never a day drinker, though).

There have been occasions when threads you start, or posts you've made in other threads have resulted in posters going way out into left field implying things you didn't actually say and misconstruing your actions and intentions. You don't like it and I was a little taken aback that you did the same thing so quickly to me.

Nobody likes it. If I’ve taken your posts the wrong way, again, I apologize. Personally, I think it’s clear that you don’t like anything about it (which is fine). That’s all I was referencing. If you’re a secret pothead, all the more power to you.

I do think it’s ironic though that you complain about marijuana smoke outside when you yourself smoke cigarettes outside. I understand though, and empathize with how addictive it can be. We all have our vices, me included.

This particular thread we were talking about it's smell inside - specifically whether or not it would be noticeable on the OP's daughter's clothing after a visit to her Grandma's house. And my story about the smell of the marijuana in our underground parkade is referring to an inside, very enclosed space also.

Now there are concerns about lung diseases caused by oil pens and vaping. Apparently the same lung ailment that workers in microwave popcorn plants have been diagnosed with.
Yeah, I guess it was only a matter of time. Vaping (anything) being completely free of health consequences was just a little too good to be true.

Marihuana smells. Maybe those that think it doesn't have, to quote those Febreeze commercials, gone "nose blind" lol.

I was just gonna say that - "nose blind" If you smoke even occasionally, or people around you do on a somewhat regular basis it is very possible that you no longer really smell it. It is pretty different for people who never smoke - to them the smell stands out significantly more.

It's the same way that I only realize what my house actually smells like after we get home from a vacation. You lose the ability to notice it.

Exactly. Heroin is naturally derived from the poppy plant.

Well everything is natural in some way. Man made things are made with things naturally found here on earth, so there is always that.
We can make things that are life saving, or dangerous with "natural" things so arguing that heroin or poison ivy is natural is kind of meaningless.

For some people smoking pot beats the alternative of having something manufactured with all kinds of additives in some lab/factory. So while the "natural" argument may not be valid for some that doesn't mean it isn't a valid argument for it in general.
For me personally, I want to put the simplest things in, or on my body that benefit me in a healthy way. So no, I'm not going to run a poison ivy plant on me because it is natural, and I'm not going to shoot up heroin because it is derived naturally. But if I had a need to relieve chronic pain I'd pick smoking a joint over popping some pills. YMMV.

I have a profoundly mixed view of Marijuana. On the one hand, it has medicinal uses and doesn't have to be smoked; the oils are sufficient. That's good. On the other hand, we have recreational uses. Without going into details and getting political, I have problems with this. Personal, nasty problems.

What on earth? You can smell alcohol too - on people's breath. Most teachers have 30 minute lunch breaks and generally stay on school grounds due to time limitations. You really think they're going out and drinking???? I can't even imagine how fast they'd be fired!

I'm with all the others who say marijuana has a very strong smell. I can smell it on people who are walking around town - just like I might smell perfume or cigarettes or whatever else they smell like. Legal/not legal doesn't change that. Legal/not legal also doesn't change the possibility of impairment from usage. If legal, it becomes like alcohol in terms of when/why/where to use it.

I'm in a state where marijuana is legal. That doesn't mean it isn't still considered drug use and is a fire-able offense for most of us whose jobs have drug policies. My BIL's company had random drug testing a few months back and ended up sending home a bunch of people who tested positive for marijuana. They had to figure out what to do and ended up laying them off until they were able to come back and pass the drug test. The law had changed but the companies drug policy had not.
