Marie Osmonds son kills himself..

So sad. Cannot imagine how that must feel to hear such devastating news.

How heartbreaking. My prayers are with her family. I cannot imagine going through something like this.

Poor Marie, she's certainly had more than her fair share of heartache :sad1:

My prayers go out to her and her family. So sad, so soon after Walter Koenig's son took his own life. :guilty:

Celebritys' children seem to be more vulnerable to life circumstances. ....

I'm sure there are others.

It might just be that we hear of their problems.

But on the other hand, it seems to be VERY weird to be a kid of a celebrity. One of my good friends from college is such a person. Ultimately he's more pessimistic and sarcastic than depressed, but he's not a happy go lucky guy. He's been in therapy for decades (and does therapy speak at friends as he projects, LOL). He actually has a group of kids (adult kids, mainly, he's 40+) of celebrities that get together and talk about how very weird their lives are. (his FB page is awe inspiring for an average joe like me, with how many people you've heard of post on there)

They get all the pressures of adults (and kids) "in" the business, but without the happy sort of fame. They aren't recognized for themselves, but just as "kids of". If you've read Carrie Fisher's autobiography, you can find the sorts of things she was exposed to b/c of her parents (similar to Drew Barrymore later on but then Drew of course had the added pressure and attention of actually being a star *as a child* herself) before she started acting, but while being overlooked by everyone, including her own busy parents, until that little bitty movie she did, LOL.

It certainly can't be easy. I know it isn't, from what he and I have talked about.

This is heartbreaking. I have seen Marie perform and have met her and talked to her. She is one of the sweetest people i have ever met. I am so sad for her and her family.

Depression sucks. :guilty:

So sad he couldn't get the help that might have saved his life.

So terribly sad.. :sad2: My heart goes out to the family..

Its very sad, but you are right. We don't know that he wasn't getting help. Sometimes it is just impossible to prevent a suicide, despite everyone's best efforts. The Osmonds always seemed like a nice family. I grew up watching them.

Several years ago, a lifelong friend's son killed himself in a very public fashion. I kid you not, it was the lead story on my Yahoo page. :scared1: That was surreal. The media was determined to make it a "hotter" story than it really was and twisted the facts something awful. The truth was, he was a terribly depressed teen who had been depressed for years and had been treated in every way the parents could think of. They were very vigilant in his care.

But despite the extraordinary measures they took, it was not enough and he took his own life. I remember his mother repeating to me over and over in a monotone voice, "He was depressed. He was mentally ill and we got help for him, but it wasn't enough. We just couldn't help him, no matter how hard we tried." She would keep saying it, almost as if saying it enough times would take away a tiny bit of the pain. I assured her she indeed HAD done everything she could, and that no parent could have done more. But what a helpless feeling as a parent....To have done anything and everything you can think of and it STILL not be enough to save your child. :sad1:

It breaks my heart when I hear stories like this. I can not imagine the pain that Marie is feeling right now. :confused3:sad2: My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family right now.

Depression really is a killer. Never realized until now how deadly it really can be. Been hearing of so many suicides lately. :sad2:

It seems like a few years ago Marie said her son was dealing with "adoption issues" too. I'm not sure what that would mean but this poor young man was obviously suffering. Such a sad, sad situation. Prayers for the Osmond family to have the strength to get through this difficult time.

I didn't know he was adopted! I know she has 8 children.

5 of the 8 were adopted. She gave birth to 1 child with her first husband and 2 with her second husband. The rest were adopted with her second husband.

I am just heartsick for Marie and her family over the loss of her son Michael  Such a tragedy for them all.

The loss of a child is heartbreaking.... to suicide, ..beyond comprehension!

Mental Illness has so many stigma's................very very sad!!!:grouphug:
