Mardi Gras/Where/When to have dinner?

We're taking a quick trip this weekend and we're hoping it will already be started.

We will be at universal feb 24th and 25th. Is there any place where I can see the lineup of who is playing during that time. I think L L Cool J is playing on sat. feb. 25th as I saw that preiviously mentioned. Does the concert start at 8:30? How long does it last? Thanks for any information.

I'll look at the schedule when I get to work tomorrow if someone else (usually the great Phamtom) hasn't. Although I THINK it all starts on February 11th....

I can recall some of the performers - just not the order. I know KC & The Sunshine Band, Kid Rock, LL Cool J, Tony Orlando, Heart (I can't wait for that one!), Bonnie Raite.... and tons more - I just can't recall them all.

OMG! I didn't realize that this event was free for ticket-holders without an additional admission. George Thorogood is playing on my DS's birthday! I'm very excited about this! I'll have to take the CD that I have currently playing in my car out and replace it with George's so DS and DD can sing along during the concert! I've always wanted to see him in person. <deep breath> OK, so I'm excited, what can I say?!? DS is going to love the parade and a concert on his birthday!

Does anyone have a link to the schedule for these concerts? I would love to see who is proforming and when. Thanks!

We will be at US/IOA for first night of MardiGras. Called HRH today and they still don't know who will be appearing that night. I know the park will close about 8pm, followed by the parade and then a concert. The HRH said the first night may just have one concert and not two like MardiGras nights in March. All the sites I've looked at for last year's MardiGras say that it starts at 5pm but they don't say what exactly is happening from 5 till park closing. Could someone whose been to Mardi Gras clear that up for me? :flower1:

Where and what time would be good for dinner that night? We have our two teens w/us. Thanks for your help! :cheer2:

By first night do you mean February 11th you will be there. The universal website says Hall and Oates is the concert, and in the French quarter where the authentic cajun food will be it says the band is Don Vappie & the Creole Jazz Combo. Have fun..mardis gras is excellent. You may want to stop by your local party store for hats/masks and some very cool sets of beads, if you wait to purchase them in the park they are about 3 times the price..lol.

The concert schedule is at uescape.com, both the park concert and the bands for the french quarter area. Enjoy!

Be sure and click the others links on that website for more information such as Headliners, French Quarter, Parade, Citywalk, and Questions

Thanks for the link, phamton. Where is concert held? City Walk, Universal or IOA? What time does the concert start and how long does it last? TIA

Generally they do the concerts in the Boneyard which is directly across from Shrek. I'm pretty sure last year they did the concerts around 8 p.m. and they lasted about an hour. Phamtom will know for sure I bet!

Great idea! I'll be sure to hide them in our luggage so the kids won't know about it until Saturday night!

Ok this clears up alot for me. I wanted to go to the parade and concert on the 11th of March. We will be in Daytona all day for the race and didn't know the parade and concert started after 8pm. Thanks!!

I'm considering going to this on March 11. Can anyone who has been before answer a few questions for me?

1. Will the atmosphere be overly rowdy - meaning too many drunk and disorderly folks? I assume not, as many kids are around, and it's kind of a family atmosphere? I love a good party, but the two friends I would be with might be a bit put off! :teeth:

2. Will we be likely to get 3 or 4 rides/attractions in between 5 and 7 p.m.?

3. What food could we get in the park other than the Mardi Gras stuff? Or would we need to go to Citiwalk?

4. We aren't really going to watch the band, just the parade - do you think there's enough to do and see to be worth the after 5 p.m. ticket?

Hey OhioMom28 -- we'll be there on the 11th too!!! Maybe we'll see ya. (I'll probably still have the green mickey head on our bag.)

U2 rocks -- we went last year with a 5yo and a 6yo and had no problems. You just have to be careful where you stand. Make sure the kids are in front of you and hold on to them at all times!!! My neice caught so many beads that she could barely stand up straight when we were leaving that night :rotfl: !!!

We're going the 11th too. I'm psyched for George "Bad to the Bone" Thorogood. They serve alcohol but there wasn't any knee-walking drunks last year, unlike HHN. :drinking1 We ate at Margaritaville after the concert and the wait wasn't unbearable.

While there is plenty of liquor, I agree it's not as bad as HHN. I was surprised Saturday that Kid Rock started cursing while there were plenty of kids still leaving the park, but that probably won't be the case with George Thoroughgood.

Probably at least 1 or 2, but keep in mind, people stake out their spot on the curb early for the parade.

On Saturday, Finnagin's served food until just after the concert started (8:30-8:45), tho they kept pouring drinks until the park closed. I believe Monsters Cafe was still open until the end of the parade, as well. After the concert, you'll have to hit CityWalk.

Keep in mind, the "Mardi Gras stuff" includes such traditional New Orleans fare as...pizza. Not gumbo pizza or anything, just pizza. :teeth:

Tough call, honestly. If the parade is your top priority, you really should grab your space by 6:30 or 6:45, which limits the number of rides you can do. Keep in mind, the parade is maybe 20 minutes long. On the other hand, your ticket is also good for CityWalk (which is $10 right there), but if you're bringing kids, that's not really an option. Personally, I'd wait for a band that interests me (if you are from the general area), or rearrange my schedule and spend the extra $20 to go for the whole day. Just my opinion.
