Mardi Gras - when is it this year?

putting out the holiday books but dont know when Mardi Gras is this year. Anyone know? The town library children's room thanks you

March 4 is Mardi Gras

I went to google, typed "mardi gras 2003" and got the answer.

Ash Wed. is March 5th, so Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) would be March 4th, with the festivities in places like New Orleans starting that weekend prior.

Actually the festivities in New Orleans start 2 weekends prior to Mardi Gras, meaning the weekend of February 22nd. And some the suburbs have parades even earlier than that.

If you really want to be technical, the season starts every year on Twelfth Night (January 6) with private events such as balls, dinner dances, etc. The public events like the parades start 2 weekends prior.
