When is Mardi Gras for Universal? What do they do? How busy is it?

We will be there Feb 21-29 this year and am wondering if there will be anything special there.

I think it starts early March this year and only on Saturdays:jester:

From the ad that was in the help wanted section on Sunday. Mardi Gras performance dates: Feb 14 - March 27 (Saturdays only)

I actually called them today to confirm and Robert's info was verified. Sat's only from Feb 14th to March 26th, but I still don't really know what they do or how is affects the parks. Are the events during the day or night or both? Will the parks be seriously impacted?

Also, what do they do exactly? If anyone has been, I'd love info.

I believe I have read there is a big parade at dusk and a concert maybe in Citywalk. Not positive maybe someone will confirm.

There is a prarade that starts at around 8 with a concert that is at the end of the parade. The parade is normally done at 8:30. The parade is of Mardi Gras calaber with plenty of beads and coins being thrown out.

The concert a headline act is held is at the old graveyard area. The graveyard is located between Twister and Jimmy Neutron. The concert is around and hour and a half long.

thats funny!!

i am from new orleans, and we are leaving the real mardi gras to go to universal....but we'll still be able to enjoy parades!!

it will be fun to compare!!

any tips on where to watch the parade from??? and good spot for the concert?

This is our first visit during MGs. The parade sounds great. Does anyone know the parade route???

Thanks

It will most likely be the same as this years, which is the same route as the Macy's parade. That route goes like this:

It'll start around Twister and will pass Shrek, turn left to go toward T2/Hollywood, turn left at Mel's, go around the outskirts of the NY/SF border, then turn left into the NY streets near ROTM, then end near Twister.

I called again today to try to make a hotel ressie and asked about the band who would play and the guy only knew that the event was on Sat's during those dates and nothing else. I will keep trying to find out who will be playing when and more info. I think I will avoid the park that day and just go for the Mardi Gras at night since we plan on buying AP's.

If anyone gets the info before me, please post.

is it worth it to go in the evening to see the parade? we'll be there the 22-29 so we could catch it the 28...and does the parade run through usf or through citywalk?

The parade is in the studios and does not go out onto Citywalk. It's a good parade that's alot of fun. The floats are awesome and they throw out plenty of beads and coins. It's worth seeing.

Will the parade only run at 8pm (that is park close time currently for the Feb. 27)? or will they have it twice that day?

I wanted to see a comedy show at City Jazz (they usually run on THur., Fri, Sat.) but City Jazz is having a special concert on that Friday instead. Sat is the only other day we could go. but it looks like if they have a comedy show it will be at the same time as the 8pm parade/:(

I called last week to get info on Mardi Gras - I was told that they would have more info by the middle of January or so -

I know for 2003, they had a LOT more going on towards the end of the celebration (later in the month, not later in the day)
