I wasn't sure where the best place was to post this was --but...

what do you think about going during Mardi Gras week (Feb 5)? I booked our trip for Feb 2-10 and then found out about Mardi Gras after the fact. Does anyone know how this will affect the crowds? I specifically booked that week hoping it would be a very quiet week (crowd-wise). We do have the flexibility to change to the week earlier so I just want to get some opinions. I know that Louisiana schools are off that whole week--so do they (or you) go down in swarms??? Any info would be very helpful:)

We are also going for Mardi Gras 2008 and have done so several times in the past. I don't find the crowds to be too big, in fact, very manageable. As long as it doesn't coincide with President's Week, which is VERY busy. Mardi Gras is early next year, so the weather may be a little cooler, but anything is better than the summer heat to me! Only New Orleans schools (and maybe some of the surrounding areas) are out of school all week. Most schools are out only Mon. & Tues. or Mon., Tues., and Wed. I don't know what time of the year would be quiet at WDW or if there even is an off-season anymore! Personally, I love going during Mardi Gras. By the way, where are you staying?

The high schools in Baton Rouge (70 miles northwest of New Orleans) are out all week, the elementary schools just the Monday before and Mardi Gras day itself.

That being said, a ton of people here take their kids in elementary schools on vacation for the entire week. Skiing and Disney are probably the top two destinations.

We have been once during Mardi Gras week, the crowds were manageable, even with the Superbowl that year in Jacksonville around the same time, and a lot of cheerleaders in town.

It is a great time to go.

I do not think the crowds will be too bad at that time you are planning to go. Fat Tuesday is early next year so it is hard to tell or know what to really expect. There could be some other events going on at the parks at that time. The schools here are only out for three days and not the whole week.

We went almost every Mardi Gras until hubby convinced DD that she likes to ski. The crowds were usually pretty low unless Mardi Gras happened to be at the same time as President's Day week. That happened last year and the crowds were awful. Test Track had a posted three hour wait!

thanks for the info! We will be at WL:)

Hey Jenny-D, we will be at the WL the same time as you :woohoo: . I was a little concerned about the crowds during Mardi Gras also. We have been to WDW a few times during the first week of Feb and it has been a great time to go as far as crowds and the weather. We will see.

Another Mardi Gras traveler here!   We'll be in the villas at WL from Feb3-8. Never been at that time, but hoping for great weather & small crowds.

Cheryl
