hey does any1 no if the mardi gras dates hav been released yet and if they have do u no when it is on?

thanks :) kathy_mandy:)

I was browing UO's site today, and saw the dates listed for MG are different than last years, so I assume these are the dates for 2005.

It looks like they're doing the Saturday only thing again, which doesn't surprise me after seeing some of the crowds this past year. It looks like MG will be held every Saturday night starting February 5 and ending April 9.

thanks that was really helpfull and lucky for me im gonna be there when its on!!!

We'll be there the 5th. What do they do for Mardi Gras?

This past year the events started with a concert during the early evening hours. This was a smaller name such as the Baha Men, Sheena Easton, or my favorite, the Kyle Henderson Project. After that concert, there was the parade filled with beads a-plenty and coins every once in awhile. When the parade ended, there was another concert with a somewhat bigger name. This past year, performers included the B-52's, Chaka Khan, Black Eyed Peas, Sean Paul, Cyndi Lauper, KC and the Sunshine Band, and the Zombie Queen of Disco herself, Donna Summer. Festivities are included with admission.

The concert usually starts right after the parade. If you want to see whoever is performing up close, you have to get there early and skip seeing the parade, although I think there's 2. The stage is in a big empty lot in front of the soundstages. They pack everyone in there with just standing room. Beware of mosh pits :). I was front row for the Black Eyed Peas last year. It was Smash Mouth the year before.

Hey, that sounds great. Do you need a special pass to see the concert? Can our friends from Orlando meet us there? I could take the kids swimming after the parade and husband could stay for the concert with our friends.

When I was at the Mardi Gras several years ago they had parades during the day and threw out all kinds of beads. My son and his friend just had a blast. In 2005 we will be going again with my son, his friend my sister and her kids. Unfortunately we will not be there on a Sat, so am I to understand we will not see any of the parades??

Mardi Gras festivities, including parades are only on Saturdays.

hey Kathy-mandy,
You will love the mardi-gras, we went a couple of years ago and it was the highlight of my d.d 's hols- she loved collecting all the beads. I think it's different to when we were there as it was on daily then.

Mardi Gras is great at USF. My DD (9) Love it! We've gone the last two years. Parades were only on Saturday night. It "appears" they plan it for the first Saturday before Fat Tuesday and go every Saturday until ? (I never payed attnetion to when it ended. ) This year, Easter is Early hence, Fat Tuesday is early, so the Mardi Gras parades are starting on a earlier Saturday in February. Our first year it started pouring around 6PM. I talked DH into staying around, and the storms passed about 30 minutes after the parade was supposed to start and the parade went on. It was great because the rain really cleared out the park. Last year it was a nice day, all day, there were big crowds for the parade. If you plan on doing it, figure that to get a good spot you'll have to quit "theme parking" about an hour of so before the parade.

Also, there are "after 5" tickets available for Mardi Gras. These are discounted tickets that allow you admission into USF after 5pm. It's a common ticket for those who want to see one of the main bands & not spend their whole day at the park.

Wow, this Mardi Gras information is great! These boards are invaluable when planning a trip! I was disappointed we had to cancel our MLK weekend trip to US/IOA because of DD's midterms but we are rescheduling for Feb 5 2005 weekend so we'll be able to catch the first Mardi Gras weekend :) My teens will be so excited!

Sounds like we'll have to wait till Jan 2005 to see the band appearance schedule?

I'm assuminng there won't be anything special happening at the HRH pool Saturday night since Mardi Gras will be going on at US.

does anyone remember what time the parade has started in the past? I have reservations at 6pm at Tchoup Chop and I don't want to miss it! Thanks!

I think Kevin Lyttle will be performing on 2/19 at MG this year.

Wow, this thread took off.

Shows what fans are looking forward too. I mean, Christmas is nice with all the decorations up, but most are looking forward to next year already.

Mardi Gras is on February 8th, very early this year. I hope they release the schedule early, because the day arrives, and no one really knows it's happening until March. If the marketing department is smart, they'll release all the info now with a tentative band schedule.
