March 6th, 2010 7 Night Western

I bought a dress for formal night about a week ago. I had a baby 9 months ago so it was totally cool to get back into something fancy again :)

Hi! :wave2: We are the Newman family and we just changed our cruise from Oct to this one! It will be Amanda (31)-me, Scott (33)-DH, Sydney (13) DD, Abby (8) DD, Travis (6) DS, and Trevor (6) DS.

If anyone has a DD that will be around 8 or 13 who would like to email back and forth on here with DDs that would great! That way they feel like they know someone in the club onboard:thumbsup2

See your private messages! My daughter is 13 too! I have sent you her email and facebook for your daughter.

Is anyone staying at the airport (Hyatt or ???) the night before the cruise and want to split the cost of a limo to port?
Meg has always wanted to do the limo thing, but for just 2 of us I have trouble justifying the money.
Or on the way back?? Anyone want to 'carpool' in a limo to the airport?

I know this is a late answer but the cruises we have been on are:
Celebrity:
Panama Canal
Alaska
RCCL:
3 day out of Seattle

All Old Person Stuff!

This board has gotten really busy since I have last looked! Great! Welcome aboard everyone!

We just got our fish extender in the mail from the lady on ebay!!! She did really great with it :) I am getting so excited.

Also, I have picked out most of our excursions but can't book them until the final payment.

Here they are:
key west - butterfly farm and nature conservatory with aquarium + walking around on our own
cozumel - Snuba
grand cayman - Ship wreck and reef snorkeling

Anyone else planning for these excursions or been on them? Opinions welcome!!

Key West is VERY easy to do on your own - I wouldn't pay DCL for that tour at all. You get off the ship, walk down the dock, turn left and you are right into 'town'. You just walk around a corner and it takes you right to all the main attractions. Its an easy 5-8 min walk depending on how fast you walk. You can usually find coupons online for the aquarium and stuff.
I would do it on your own.
Last January in Key West we just got off the ship, wandered the shops and ended up taking the trolley tour. It went all over and you could hop on/off whereever you wanted. The whole thing end to end was about 2.5 hours. I wouldn't do it again, but it was fun once. Lots of history type talk and stuff and the kids on the tour were bored out of their minds.
I think we have decided not to even get off the ship in Key West this time and enjoy an empty ship/pools. It was one of those 'been there, done that' kinda places to us.

Cozumel - it was raining the day we went and quite chilly - so we wandered the mall off the pier and then decided to go out to Paradise beach anyway because it was brightening up. We were the ONLY people there and it felt awkward. lol. We had some lunch and headed back to the ship. The water was frigid and way too cold to swim in :(
I know you can book snuba tours and stuff on your own easily too. It may be a lot cheaper.
This trip we plan to go to Nachi Cocum for the day. Hoping for good weather so we can enjoy it this time!

Grand Caymen was our fave day - the water was really warm. We took a cab up to the public beach for the day. Good (but expensive) food there and we rented chairs. This time we plan on going to Rum Point as it looks like a much nicer area/beach. I am usually a big advocate for doing ports on your own, but may pay DCL to take us to this one, as it is further out and further away than the public beach. I have to check into options for transportation there on our own.

Good tips Liz! I figured we would do Key West on our own but was not sure about that other stuff. We woudl like to do the beach stuff, but I am afraid to get a taxi. I guess it is my fear of getting left at the beach with no way to get back to the ship.

your lucky the water was warmer in Grand Caymen. I went last year February 21st-March 7th, 2009 on b2b and water was chilly when I went. Great weather and no rain for two weeks. Just chilly water:rotfl2:. Bt this year my birthday will be during the trip so I won't care about chilly water:thumbsup2

so, are the beaches going to be too cold for swimming in March? I guess I just figured it was warm all year around and it would not be an issue. The pools on board are warm right?? Would we be better off to just get off the ship with the kids and shop in the ports instead of doing the beach trips?

You won't have any trouble getting a cab - they are lined up all along the beach areas ready to take you back. We had our choice of 7 or 8 when we were ready!

In January Cozumel was way too cold, and unfortunately Castaway Cay was really cold as well. Grand Cayman was nice. We were on seven mile beach at Grand Cayman.
We plan to do Nachi Cocum in Cozumel because it also has a heated pool, so if the ocean is too chilly, we can still swim.
If anyone else decided to do Nachi, maybe we can share a cab??

I would say try the beach - the kids don't feel the cold like we do anyway - and if you are going to the Caribbean you MUST do the beach right? :)

Maybe just take a cab to the public beach in GC. There is a playground there, a little restaurant, and you can rent chairs and stuff too. I would guess the water should be nice there, and if not, you can hang out for a bit and grab a cab back to the pier area and go shopping or whatever.

So gang, I was thinking we should name our cruise group! What do ya'll (Texas speak :yay: ) think of the name, "Wish Upon a Spring Break Star"? Post your name and we will let DMMarla07860 decide because she started the cruise meet up thread.

I like that!

I like that name for a group, but if anyone else has any other names post them here and then we can all vote on a name:goodvibes:goodvibes

Works for me!

I am going to start the fish extender website next week and post it.
We are getting closer!

My family will be on this cruise. DH, DD (7), DS (3), Brother, Niece (9), Nephew (11), DM, DD, and DSM(stepmother).
This will be our 2nd cruise with DD, the rest are first timers. I just recieved a mailing with shore excursions,... It said passports not required. Is that out of date. Thought they mandatory?
Very excited about cruising. Thies is first time onany discussion board, forgive me if lingo is off.

Welcome! So glad to have you DisFamily10. We are just starting to get going for the cruise. I have a DD (8) as well. Looks like several of us have girls around the same age. It will be great for them to have someone they know on the ship kids club!

:thumbsup2:cool1:Welcome aboard DisFamily10! Our numbers continue to grow the closer we get!!!
