Let me give you the list of characters:
Me - 33
DH - 37
DS - 12
DD - 9

We left home at 4:30 and arrived in Cape Canaveral at 9:30. We stayed at the Radisson because I wanted to take advantage of the free shuttle. It is very nice but they don't have enough parking. We had to pull up over a curb and park in the dirt that was full of potholes. There were more cars here than in the parking lot. The room was very clean but the beds are pretty hard.
We woke up at 7:30 so the kids could go to the pool as soon as it opened at 8:00. I stayed in the room to repack our day bags and make sure nothing was left under the beds. DH got us breakfast from Flamingo's while I got the kids ready. Flamingo's is right next door to the hotel and very good/very reasonable.
We wanted to move our car closer to the front where we were to meet the shuttle. DH got up there and decided that he would rather go ahead and park at port! Someone please tell me why I paid $109 per night:headache:
By this time it was 10:30. It only took us 5 minutes to get to the terminal. DH dropped us off and went to park the car. The porters are right there waiting for you and are very nice. The kids and I entered the glass doors and put our carry on bags on the xray belt. We then went up the STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN!
As soon as you get off the escalator, you will see a round desk. There are CMs there that will go thru your ticket book to make sure everything is filled out properly and they will tear out what you need to hand in. The check in counters are on the left and there was no line!:teeth: We handed the CM our tickets, photo ID, birth certificate and visa. We were asked if anyone had flu like symptoms in the last 72 hours. We were issued our KTTW cards and given a packet that included a map of the ship, info on Palo and spa ressies, lunch, and a card that said our stateroom would be ready at 1:30. Stateroom #2637...no upgrade.
We explored the terminal and watched classic Disney cartoons. The model of the ship is amazing! The line to the gangway started forming around 11:15 and I knew it would fill up fast. No one understood why I wanted to get in line. Gee, I've only been planning this trip for a year! Duhhhh:crazy: Captain Mickey and Goofy showed up around 11:30. No one wanted to have their picture taken with me. Oh I can start to see the beginnings of a problem. (I would like to take this time to mention that I brought something back from the Wonder that I will be selling on ebay........MY FAMILY! Please check with the members of your family before you plan the trip to see how they feel about photos with characters and joining on board activities. It will save you a lot of disappointment. Not to metion money if you leave them behind.) Now where was I.................................
Boarding began at 11:55 and the line moved quickly. We took our photo (because I said so) and then I heard those magic words, "Please welcome the Yates Family". Yes, I cried. Family pretended they didn't know me. We were directed to Parrot Cay for lunch and it was wonderful. We got a nice table by a porthole. Our server came to take our drink order as I was telling everyone to save room for dessert. DS said, "You mean we can have dessert after lunch?" Our sever said, "Pssst, you can even have dessert after breakfast!" Is that a tear in DS eye? My copy of the Passporter was sitting on the table. The server picked it up and was very impressed. He wanted to know where he could get a copy. Of course I gave him the website!
By this time our room was ready. We had a cat. 10 and I thought there was plenty of room. We had a steamer trunk and had to request a few more hangers, but that was it. It was wonderful!
We headed for the pools. The weather was perfect. DS hit the hot tub and made some new friends and DD went straight to the slide. DH and I found a waiter and a lounge chair. How do you spell heaven...MICKEY. The 4:00 boat drill was painless. We took our time and explored the ship with the kids who quickly found the arcade. At 6:15 we were on the way to see Hercules. We got front row on the left. The show was fantastic. Hades, Pain, and Panic made the show! We checked out Mickey Mates and DD bought a pair of Mickey hands and DS got a pin.
It was time to get ready for dinner. We had APT. Our servers were Andre J. from Canada and Darija from Croatia. They were amazing. Darijia poured ketchup for the kids in the shape of Mickey. It was too cute. I can't even get started on the food or I'll gain another 5 pounds. I will tell you it was like eating at a 5 star restuant every night. The show in Animator's Pallet was cute, but I must admit I expected more. It was my least favorite for atmosphere. The kids were ready for the clubs so DH checked them into the clubs while I ordered our dessert.
This would turn out to be one of our few private moments together. We went to the Lab to check on the kids and DD met us at the counter and announced that she was bored and was never going back. What!:scared: You must understand the she is very shy at first and I put that on the card when I signed her up. Okay, just breath.
We went back to the room and was greeted by a towel dog wearing DH sunglasses. The kids loved it. DH and DD were out like a light. DS and I were too excited to sleep. We decided to order milk and cookies from room service at midnight. It was one of my magical moments. DS and I sitting on the bottom bunk eating milk and cookies while watching cartoons. He is 12 and I realized that this would probably be one of the last times we would have a moment like this. He put his head on my shoulder and said, "Mom, this is going to be the best vacation ever. Thank you for planning it for us." Wow, someone in my family "gets" it. Okay everyone, you can buy the other ones but the boy is not for sale! Someone get me a tissue.

I'm sorry that was so long. I'll try to have Day 2 for you soon!

Don't you just love it?! Sons can be great sometimes!!!

Thanks so much for posting the trip report. I love to hear about it from other people's perspective.

Thanks for posting!
Things sound pretty good so far. I had tears in my eyes just reading about the cookies at midnight. My DS(10) has said the same kind of things to me over the years.

Eagerly awaiting the next chapter,
Karen from NJ

Oye, I ended up reading pretty much your whole post to my husband so he could enjoy it too! Keep them coming!

It may be the last time--for a while. I had a similar moment with my son on our December cruise...he's 28! Of course, the last time we did something like that, he probably was 12!
