March 27, 2010 - Spring Break with Mickey on the Magic!

Hi to all. I've just read through all the posts and look forward to being on the cruise with all of you. This will be our third cruise (Wonder 4 day- 2000; Panama Canal, eastbound, 2005). We are also from Long Island - Huntington, and our family consist of me- Patti, DH Carl, DS 18, DD13. Haven't told the kids about the trip yet - it will be their Valentine's Day surprise, but when I do I'll have my daughter check out the kid's link. It has been so cold lately that I cannot wait to have a lounge chair in the warm sunshine.....

We are from Long Island also!! Too cold lately!! When are you flying?? We are leaving that morning on Jet Blue for JFK!

I hope you are able to keep your secret until Valentine's Day!!

I hope so too, I almost told DD tonight, I get so excited and want to talk about all the things I read on the boards! Easy to keep from DS - he is away at college.

We are driving down, Friday morning, picking up DS on the way. Too complicated to fly and get coordinated with him, and too expensive.

Glad to meet you.
Patti:cheer2:

we decided to drive too, gonna leave thurs after the kids get out of school, hope to be down early enough to hit the beach for a couple hrs friday. driving gives us the option to stay an extra day if we feel like it too. plus 16hrs of "family" time with the kids in the car!!

actually found a deal here in philly for a full size rental for 14$ a day. I hate putting all those miles on our vehicles. I can get an 11 day rental for a little over 200$ total...unless we find a deal on airfare later on, hello winshield!

I totally agree, I have been checking the board every day, :confused3 and no new posts. Hope it picks up as we get closer. Not able to keep the secret from the kids, LOL, oh well now I can talk about it all I want. :yay:

I admire you for keeping the secret for any time at all - I think I would have burst after the first day! My family got soooooooo tired of me talking about this trip - thank goodness I can come to the DIS boards and read about what all the other compulsive planners are up to

BTW, for anyone that's interested, there's still plenty of time to join the fish extender exchange. No pressure (I know lots of people don't want an added "to-do" on a vacation) just an open invitation if you'd like to join. :goodvibes

wow, we were on the same panama canal cruise in 2005. that was a great cruise. the ship has changed a little, the PC cruise was before they added the arielvision (big screen tv above the goofy pool), and before they added ocean quest (for the 11-13 year olds) down on deck 2. actually there are lots of other changes and you might enjoy discovering them when you are there.

Our DS11 would be in the same age group as your DD13 but unless she likes video games and the sports deck activities, they probably won't have too much in common. oh, and oceanquest does not require any check-in/check-out and not wristbands, which you may or may not like (your DD13 will probably appreciate it).

I'm here checking a few times a day too!!! My DS will be 11on the cruise also!!! I would love for them to meet. My son is a bit shy and on the last cruise he had a great time but really did not meet too many kids.

As for the fish exchange I am really thinking about it!! Loved it on the last cruise, but there were so Many people in the group, had to ship everything down early and truly spent a fortune on gifts!! There were 4 separated FE groups and each group had at 40 people in it!! Not to sound cheap...how many groups/people are there??

But on the other hand my kids loved getting stuff in their FE all the time!!! SO will probably say yes, but still thinking!

I too check the boards everyday. I am getting so excited! I think I am driving my husband crazy with how much I talk about the cruise. He's excited to but is no much of a planner. I just keep telling him he will be happy that i was so obsessed with it once we get there!

Two more months - woohoo!!

That is soooo cool that you were on the PC cruise too! We had such a great time. I look forward to seeing the improvements to the ship. If I remember correctly it was going into dry dock right after the PC cruise.

My daughter did post on the kids thread, she is so excited to be going. She loves sports and is looking forward to ocean quest. She is disappoimted about not getting into the stack, she has been looking forward to that for years. My son was in the stack on the PC cruise all the time, we never saw him, it was amazing.

Still thinking about joing the FE, wondering how many families have signed up so far.

Looking forward to meeting you. Here's hoping this board gets busy:thumbsup2

4 groups of 40 for the FE exchange?! :scared1: Wow, you'd need another suitcase just for all the goodies.

So far we have 9 cabins signed up for our FE exchange (there's a list of all the cruisers and the FE participants in post #1 of this thread). Considering we're only 2 months out I can't imagine we're going to get that many more people, but you never know. I hate to exclude anyone, but I was thinking about closing the list 3 or 4 weeks before we cruise so that people can finalize their gifts based on a firm number. We'll see. So, based on the relatively small size of the group, I thought we'd have everyone do one delivery and stagger the days so there's something in the FE most every day. But this is my first time trying to organize something like this so I'm completely open to suggestions!

Thanks for organizing the FE group. My son (Aaron) and daughter-in-law will be on the cruise with their son (5) and daughter (2). The "other grandma":thumbsup2 is making their FE and I am shopping for the goodies. Please add them to the list as "UCLA crew".;)

Because I was curious to see if I was remebering correctly..I went back to our DIS board. There was 54 people in my FE list. We were a total of 97 families for 336 people!!! OMG!!! I felt like I was making FE gifts for weeks!!

We will most likely do it!! But I will let you know next week!! Very busy right now, but counting down the days until I am sitting by the Goofy pool with the drink of the day watching something on the movie screen!!!:banana:

I think cutting off the list for fish extenders a few weeks before we leave is a great idea. We went on the Panama Canal cruise in 2008 and we had a ton of people too. Instead of each of us doing something though each day was a group of people. On smaller cruises its much easier.

If you want you could maybe make something per cabin, if its easier and that way you can still participate.

We are very excited about the cruise. We will be staying at the Raddisson the night before. And my family decided we could go to WDW after for my birthday!:woohoo:

9 Weeks from today and we will be sailing with Mickey :mickeyjum and some very flavorful boat drinks!!!:drinking1

Trying not to do too much shopping yet. I really need to go up in the attic and see what everyone has that fits and has no stains!! But I am finding it hard since the spring catalogs have started to come and everything looks so nice and "springy"!!! Part of me thinks I could really start packing since we are not going to be using any of the clothing before we leave, then reality tells me we have 9 weeks before we leave and I don't pack!! I'm very excited about this trip!! We never go away to a warm place during the winter...too expensive. So this is a real treat for us!!

I'm not packing yet but I have started making piles of stuff in the guest room as I think of things to take. Makes the room messy but I think of the cruise whenever I walk by! :woohoo:

i think I am dring my family crazy - I'm all about the cruise - hope these 9 weeks go by quickly.

Our family would like to join the FE.

Taylor DS (18)
Perri DD (13.9) LOL

Thanks
