March 27, 2010 - Spring Break with Mickey on the Magic!

Hi Everyone!

My family and I are sailing with you too and just wanted to say Hello. We are soooooo excited especially since we just got a cat 12 room for 1200.00 less then we were paying for a cat 11 with an onboard booking credit! There are still some available if anyone is interested! I suggest putting the room on hold if you need to change your existing ressie because the agents at DCL do not have the internet pricing in their systems and they quoted me almost 3900 for the 3 of us instead of the 2690 I was quoted over the internet! Big Difference!!!! Once I put the room on hold they were able to see the pricing and the supervisor changed my existng ressie. They are saying its a computer glitch that happened in our favor and as of now they still haven't fixed it! I hope this info can help someone!

Congratulations on getting a great deal! Glad you'll be on board with us. I checked - no change in pricing for us but hopefully a few others got to take advantage of it.

I will be the bearer of bad tidings here. I called DCL today to see if the military rates were applied to our cruise and they said yes. Now, we booked in March 2009 and got a rate of about $5500 for 2 adults and 2 kids which includes 10% off and a $200 onboard credit ($5300 out of pocket).

The military rate they offered with identical features as our current reservation: $4700. I was hoping for about $3500. Oh, and we lose the 10% and the onboard credit.

Well, with the economy where it's at and some other unexpected expenses that have come up, that may be the end of our Spring Break cruise. I'm not giving up hope yet, but its not looking good.

So sorry to hear you might have to cancel. DCL prices really are sky high, especially when you compare them to some other lines. We priced a 7 day Western over spring break 2011 on Carnival (yeah, I know it’s not Disney but we actually like Carnival too) and it is less than half the cost of this cruise with Disney. Not sure DCL is going to be sustain these high prices considering the economy. Fortunately final payment isn’t due for a few months so there’s still time for some price drops. Hope it works out for you!

I am pretty sure that we will be on this cruise in March. We have not made reservations yet. I am going to wait till the prices come down :) We have been on one cruise back in May and got upgraded. I am hoping for the same thing this time but will not be disappointed if we are not.

There will be a Full Moon during the entire week of this cruise. Should make some nice views from the deck at night.

A full moon shining down on warm clear Caribbean waters - sounds perfect!

Thank you so much for those gorgeous photos. Your son is a great photographer.

Hi All, I have been looking at cruises again and just saw on the dis site there is an offer for military cruise specials for this cruise. This would be a perfect cruise for us right when the boys go on spring break. Unfortunatly we are unable to book yet due to hubbys unknown... they dont know weather they are sending him to Afganastan or not yet. We should know by the end of this month (doesnt the marine corps know I have vacation planning to do LOL)

The price is still high with the military discount (was hoping for less) but it may be the last Disney cruise we do in the Caribbean as Im sure the Dreams price will sky rocket. (we would like to do a west coast since we are here but that too depends on the $$$)

SO ive gone on way to much LOL. I originally came to see if there was a thread yet for this cruise JUST incase we book lol. then once i noticed all the military referenced looking for deals I thought I woud post the link I found Military Deal If you go on the Disney site you can enter your info like your booking then for promotion code inter MTO.. Remember its only on deals for cat 11 and up. and can not be combined w/any other deals!

Keep your fingers crossed all that we find out at the end of the month that hubby will be here so we can cruise with yall. (if not I can always take the boys by myself or with my mom LOL)

I just put down the deposit for this cruise. We are 2A & a 6yr old. I've never cruised before during Spring Break, but we are super excited. :)

We have not booked yet, waiting for the prices to come down, but they are going up. Based on the number of people in this meet group I did not think that it would be nearly full and the prices would go down.:confused3

efoote01 - Welcome! Have you cruised with Disney before? I hear the ships are always full so Spring Break shouldn't be too different. We took the Magic to Mexico last July and it never felt crowded (well, except for around the pools and at show time!)

anewmac - Absolutely loved your "double dip" trip report! It was so funny and descriptive. What an amazing DIS group you all had. Sure hope things work out with your husband's deployment and you get to book this cruise with us! :goodvibes

tigger2002 - I think people took a look at the 2011 pricing and decided maybe the 2010 prices weren't so bad after all! Although I checked the prices yesterday and the cost of our Cat. 6 has not gone up at all since we booked last October, so there must still be lots of rooms left.

We are planning to get a Cat. 12. The price the other day was $999 and now it is over $1600. But it has been $1600 before. The prices go up and down.
I am surprised that there are not anymore people in our Meet Group. If the ship is truly filling up, based on the prices, I figured that there would be a lot more people joining our group.

We were on the Magic in May '09 to the Western Carib...we loved it & are going back for more...pools were crowded on sea days only @ peak times. My daughter had the Mickey pool to herself after dinner one day. We'll have to see what Spring break crowds are like, but it has to beat standing in lines @ the park!

We were on the Magic Western in May 2009 also.

That's funny (were you routed to Nassau instead of Cozumel?)...I am excited about the different ports this time...but really, any cruise vacation is a good vacation :)

I know it's far away, but does anyone have ideas on what they are doing on port days?

I am a beach person so I was thinking Orient & Magen's or St John's. Any insights?:confused3

I know we are still 6 months out – but we've already made our excursion reservations! (Yes, I am an obsessive vacation planner.....:hyper:) I’m not fond of ship excursions so we generally book independent tours (after thoroughly researching them on Cruise Critic and Trip Advisor.)

In St. Martin we are doing a tour with Bernard’s Tours. He takes smaller groups in vans and does a 6 hr sightseeing, shopping, and beach tour that includes a couple of hours at Orient Beach and a stop at Maho Beach to watch the planes coming in for landing right overhead. For $35 a person I think this will be a great way to see a little of the entire island.

In St. Thomas we are going on a daysail on a private boat, the High Pockets. No more than 6 passengers on the boat (there’s room for 3 more if any one is interested :)) and 6 hours of sailing, relaxing and snorkeling, great lunch included. Day sails seem to be a popular thing to do here and there are plenty of operators who do both half day and full day trips. Trunk Bay on St. John’s looks gorgeous but I’ve read that the ship excursions don’t give you enough time there and that it’s a little complicated (several transportation changes) to get there on your own.

For anyone who’s looking for more information on either of these ports, I highly recommend checking out the Caribbean forums on Cruise Critic. Lots of excellent information.

I also hate paying the cruise ship excursion prices...this time I think I am just going to cab it to Orient Beach & magen's...I will however splurge on the float rental @ castaway cay:rotfl:
