March 2016 rates

When rates are released for March 2016 is it going to be hard to get a resort reservation? Is it something that i have to do the minute the pricing is released or can i wait a couple of weeks to a month to book?

I think it depends on the resort. I know certain rooms, like the little mermaid rooms, fill up fast. But I don't think it's the same as when things like free dining is released and everyone makes a mad rush to grab a room with the discount. You should be ok. What resort/rooms are you looking for?

You can call now and make a room-only reservation. Your deposit will be one night at today's rack rate. This way, you at least lock in a reservation for the type of room you want.

You can book room-only ressies by phone for any WDW resort up to 499 days in advance.

As Hi Pluto said, some room types go quick, but that's usually when discounts are released so I agree that you shouldn't have a problem waiting to book. If you will go regardless of any discounts coming out, I would book early to get the resort/room type you want. As wdwrich posted, you can book RO 499 days out, which will be quoted at the highest rate for 2015, then automatically adjusted once the 2016 rates are released. With that said, if you want a package, it's best to wait until the new rates come out. If you book RO now and change to a package later, the RO will have to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring a new deposit of $200. Since RO and packages are different reservation systems, money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other.
