March 2016 Pre Trip and Trip reports

TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, may not last for long. I hope to NOT get called out this weekend to work! Tomorrow, my plans are to pawn the kids off on others while I go do some last minute shopping for the trip!

We bought a new Jeep Wrangler Sport yesterday:drive: We have been towing DH's truck and we have been wanting a new Jeep for a long time. They had a nice base model soft top, so we bit the bullet and bought it. I just picked DH up from the tire place, we are getting new tires and rims added. Then Monday, it's got to have the base plates for towing installed. All of this just in time for our leave date next Friday.

How do you add pictures. I guess I am not getting it...I clink the camera icon at the top of the post and it adds the Gallery brackets..what am I supposed to do then???o_O

How do you add pictures.

I use the upload a file in the lower right corner of your typing, if using a computer. Not sure how to do it on a phone. I haven't had a real phone in about 2 yrs. All I have is a company provided flip phone. I lost that on my last night at the Fort in Oct. and it took them 2 weeks to get a new one.

I called work to see how my truck was coming. They had 2 weeks to service and body and paint. I was told it is going in for paint this Monday when we get back home so they to get me a loaner for a few days.

Safe travels Ed, see ya some time tomorrow morning.

Today we did a Fort day. We started by taking the small launch over to the contemporary, then hopped the monorail to magic kingdom, then a bus over to animal kingdom resort to see the animals. Bus back to MK and walked over to the contemporary and the small boat back to the Fort. Went off property for lunch and then came back to go swimming. Now I am sitting at the campsite listening to the 2 families that are camped beside us and across the road from each other yelling back and forth to each other. Hopefully tonight will be calm.

I'm planning to be there early, snowmedic, but I'll check in with you at a reasonable morning hour (maybe 9-ish, is that too early?).

That would be fine Ed. It will give me time to walk up and get some sticky buns from the Settlement. ( Insert jokes here ).

Went looping this afternoon, walked through 900, made it up to 920, and no Tiggerdad. I knew you wouldn't be here, just thought I would mention it.
We took the small launch for a ride around then watched the EWP and some fireworks. We left the fireworks about 1/2 way through so we could get a bus that was not crowded, it worked. Pics in the morning.

Okay Bama-Ed today is your big day, will come looking for you this afternoon on our nightly golf cart rides......

DW, me, DM. Arrived early, waiting for our assigned site to be vacated and prepped.

Today is the first day it has rained since we have been here. Got most of the site packed down and getting ready to take it over to storage.
Got to meet a very nice man this morning, Bama Ed. We walked and talked for a few minutes, and it was so great to finally talk to him in person.
Enjoy your time at the Fort, and your long day at MK.

I am getting ready to turn in my internet box, so this will be my last post till sometime Monday when I get home.

Everyone coming to the Fort, be safe. And if you are heading home, safe travels that way as well.

snowmedic,

it was nice to meet you. We did walk and talk and met his family. We paused over a not-so-secret location.

We are now in our site in 201 but I am only here for one night. It is immediately next to the 100/200 comfort station. It is raining pretty steadily and I have done minimal set up so I can move tomorrow. It is already arranged.

Here is the view of my site.

We often talk about putting a tent on different site types. My site has only 4 ft of space for a tent on the coquina.

The site next to me, however, has a big tent pad and a big tent set up on it. So go figure. Point is you can't always assume a site whill hold a tent. There is not much space on the side of this site for much more than an awning or ezup.

Gonna go get a modem kit and try it out. Will slip over to MK even if only for a little while tonight.

Rainy day here in Central Fl, sorry for those already at the Fort, but it's not too heavy. Should clear up later this afternoon and then rain again tomorrow. Monday & Tuesday it should be cooler, so very nice for you that are already there. Suppose to be back in the high 80s when we pull in Wednesday. Off to Camping World and Publix to get a few things for the trip.

How come you are moving?

j

Because a better site is available tomorrow. This is my blow-out trip so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask (plus no one was around at 630am beside me checking in so the CM could entertain my silly request. And like I said, I was already granted permission. Don't have to check with nobody, just when that site is emptied tomorrow, I can move in. They won't blow/clean it because I'm not a new guest per se. Fine with me.

To back up a little bit, we came in last night and camped at Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont for $25. I have done this the last 3 trips now. To me there is no sense driving into the Fort at 6pm, setting up, eating dinner, and sleeping all for the privilege of $155 a night (current Preferred rate this time of year with tax). With the Aliner it is especially easy to roll into my pull thru site at LLSP, plug in, drop the rear stabilizers, and lift the roof and walls. It took less than 5 minutes. Did it in reverse this morning, rolled over to the Fort, and got my name in early before lots more arrivals show up.

We killed time in the overflow lot, then went to the TE porch, then while I went and visited snowmedic (also showed him the remaining existing FWRR real rail) my wife and mom had breakfast at TE. Lee was their waiter. Then we dabbled around the Meadow TP when the text came that my site (for tonight) was ready. At the same time the rain came which has ebbed and flowed for the lst 2.5 hrs and may for the rest of the day.

So I got my modem kit for internet service at the Meadow TP just now and wired it to the laptop via Ethernet and of course it worked. Then I plugged in my little travel router and its default mode is as an access point anyway so I just plugged it in for power, plugged the Ethernet cable off the modem into it, and voila we have wifi in our site. Others have done it before but it's a first here for me.

IIRC this is a model our poster jbrostek recommended in the past. It's $20 on Amazon and it's a TP-Link Wireless N Nano Router model TL-WR702N. I have a honking big data plan on the cell phone anyway but this works.

Resting a while after lunch then off to MK maybe.

Are you moving to the 100 Loop? Say HI for me. I miss it.

That is a cute little access point. Does it let you set up security or restrict connections? I may look into one of those for home. I am looking for something to extend my signal by the pool.

And I looked at the radar. It doesn't look great, but I've had some great times at the Fort and the parks on rainy days.

Have fun. I'm enjoying all the pics and early TR.

Good thing about a lengthy stay....today's radar doesn't matter (well, at least not as much as a short stay).
