March 2013 Car rentals

Yep, things are starting to happen. Not dramatic yet, but heading in the right direction.

For my dates (3/8-13), a few days ago, Alamo was showing about $450 (compact), on Sunday $300, now about $250. The Dollar City special is also in this range.

Personally, I'm still holding an Enterprise ressie via Costco that was about $95 ($147 total) that I made several months ago (unusual to see something that far out, but it was there). I still think I'll be able to beat that.

Pay attention!

(One more small piece of advice; its ok to use the Kayak's and the Orbitz's of the world to price compare, but often they are slow to react to change and they don't show common specials. For instance, Dollar's and Thrifty's City specials don't show up, nor does Alamo's last minute (IG) specials. You have to go to the actual sites sometimes)

I have been trying Priceline everyday. My offer was finally accepted today. I am paying $399 total for a minivan from Budget. Pick up is at MCO on March 2 at 11:30 AM. drop off is March 13 at 7:00Am. The best I have been able to book so far was $425 from Alamo. Do you think I got a good deal?
I think that's a great price! How much did you bid per day?

Just chiming in to say that you guys ROCK!! Before the disboards, I was the person that just went to expedia and booked a rental car. No code...no further thought. Thanks to you guys, I have an extra $200.00 in my back pocket (which I'm sure will be happily spent on Disney goodies)! Thank you!

Check your budget reservation again tonight......ours dropped another $50. Second drop today - 7 day reservation first week in march - picking up from FLL and dropping off at MCO - Total with taxes for standard car is $147. using BCD 072700 (Southwest code) and MUWZ126 $30 coupon code. We aren't costco members.....if we were we would be looking at $131 using costco code of W852871 and costco $40 coupon code MUGZ034.

I am not risking it for the $16. We were costco members last year and used the costco codes......we were asked for our costco card in the garage.

Glad to see these rates are dropping!
Val.

What do you need to use the Southwest code? We don't usually fly on Southwest.

Just sign up online for their frequent flyer club. It's free to join!

I'm not even sure you need to do that, but, to be safe it wouldn't hurt. As far as I know, anyone can go onto the Southwest site and get/use their codes. For sure, I know you do not need to fly on Southwest to use the discount.

It just keeps getting better :). Yesterday, the best deal was 214$ with Costco code, today it's 185$ :) using:

Southwest code U072700
coupon for 40$ off MUWZ007

12 days Feb 27-Mar 11
Intermediate car

So proof that you just have to keep checking every code, every day!

Now if only I could get National to match this!! Last year National dropped to 224$ for an SUV for 12 days, 7 days before arrival...no movement at all this year!

Still, $185 for 12 days...not bad!!

I managed to get a compact through Alamo for $301.33. Pick-up at SOG/drop-off MCO for 3/22-3/31. I used the Costco code (not sure what it is right now, but I got it from the Costco website). :cool1:

Thanks to the posters who provided the various Budget coupons from Costco and Southwest. I already had a discount code but not the coupon codes. After trying various combinations, I brought my total down from $258 to $207.:cool1::cool1:

A few weeks ago the best rate I could get was $312. And "rack rates" were a ridiculous amount in the high $300s.

Once again, thanks. The Dis board members are the best!!!

Jim

My dates are the 21-29 and rates are HIGH! I have an SUV with Budget for $270 and trying all these codes, it's $785!!! I hope I can find a deal in the next 28 days. :)

From where is the coupon MUWZ007? Do I need to print something or be a member of something?

thank you

My dates are the 22-30 and I also have an SUV, but with National for the same price as you with the KLM code. I haven't been able to find anything else and the rates are horrible still for that week. I keep checking though...I am hoping there is some last minute movement closer to the time.

Do you have a Costco card? The direct Costco Travel website has your dates for $160 including all taxes now.

I got a rate of $164 for the week through CapOne rewards website, but just wondering which is better at MCO...Avis or Budget?? I'm arriving solo, kinda late with 2 kidlets.

LOL, I'm close. I have March 22-28 with Budget minivan and with taxes and fees have $299.
I tried the codes just given too and it was $800 :scared:
So far for week before Easter, I think we are doing ok.
I have never paid more than $200 for a minivan but we don't go during Easter either. Only going since my ds is playing baseball at WWoS.

What rental company? Thanks for sharing!

I do, but you have to be a US resident to sign up for the costco travel website, and I have a Canadian address. But I'll go play around with it now :) Thanks Robin!

ETA: Thanks Robin! Saved another 25$ with your tip :). $160 for 12 days! That's 13$/day total. Soon, they'll be paying me to drive their cars, lol!

By the way, going through the costco travel site was painless, it never asked for my address. It used these codes:

BCD W852871
coupon MUGZ034 (40$ off)
