March 2012 Rental Car?

Booked a mid-size car March 2-8 at MCO for $166 through Hotwire. Rental ended up being through Enterprise.

Have used Hotwire many times and have never had a problem...except when I was upgraded in Atlanta to a premium car.

This is why I don't like Hotwire, or anyone else that locks you in. Those dates appear to be coming into the "last minute" category. Price for a midsize with the same dates at Alamo with no coupons/codes: $88.53 base/$134.79 total.

Do keep looking. Sometimes the last minute rate for Alamo (usually code IG) can get even lower than what you have. And one tip on the kiosk...what we usually do is have one of us (i.e., me) go do the Alamo kiosk while others wait for baggage. Generally, you can walk right up to the kiosk and complete your rental, because most people don't use it and get in line.

Maybe next week for a last-minute rate but I did lower my reservation once more to $98 for full-size, March 3-8 using Insider Rate and $30-off Insider coupon.

It just keeps dropping. In another few days, Alamo will be paying me to rent their car.;)

I'm new to the whole couponing for rental vehicles, I've been looking at the mousesavers website about alamo, i joined the alamo insiders, and now i'm wondering how do you add more than one rental code?

I see the deal they have right now as a *last minute* savings, do they normally do that every month? should i wait to rent a vehicle for a mid april trip? thanks for any help in the right direction!

Usually with Alamo you can use an id and a coupon. The id is usually a 7 digit number or IG for last minute and the coupons are a mix...something like AF4499SDY. The coupons may or may not be physical.

Usually, you can combine an id and a coupon. However, I dont *think* you can use a coupon with last minute rates but I would certainly try plugging one in and see what happens.

I would definitely book something nonbinding now, but keep looking, right up to the day you leave.

mommy.foster.6, for my reservation with Alamo, I logged into Alamo Insiders and selected the $30-off-weekly special and the system automatically inserted an ID and Coupon code.

thank you! i booked the budget deal for right now but will keep on the lookout for any other deals up until we leave! so happy to have found this thread as i saved over 75 dollars from what i was going to spend :)

I only wish that were true.

I guess there was a time when manufacturers sold cars to the rental agencies at greatly reduced prices because what better way is there to test out a new car than to rent it without a salesman sitting next to you? My opinion of certain cars has changed considerably, both positive and negative, based on a rental...and the last car I bought can directly be tied to a good rental experience I had with it. Anyway, when times got tough a couple of years ago, I believe the car makers cut out the deals with the rental companies, which caused rentals to get considerably more expensive.

However, I read recently that car rentals are expected to be less expensive this year. I don't remember why though (maybe the car makers are giving the incentives again or maybe there is an oversupply of inventory), but we need all the help we can get considering what's going on with gas prices.

Anyway, as I keep saying, if you're looking to save a few $, keep checking those rates until you leave and stay away from "pre-pay".

I also bought a car after a good rental experience with the same model. I guess it was really two since the first car was totaled after after I owned it for 8 years or so.

Certain cars have dropped a bit in price on Alamo this morning for March so check your reservations!

I love those words..."rates dropped". I'm not a March, but a late April and often try to watch the prior months as I wait for something decent for my rental. You guys are getting great prices, I hope it continues.

I agree. Actually, today is the fourth straight day I've modified my Alamo reservation because the rate has gone down. Its sometimes just a few dollars, but I'll take it when I can get it.

My lowest is still the Budget deal (D454300 - Wendie's special on their web page), but Alamo is getting closer...which I'd prefer since its so easy to pick up a car at Alamo.

Mine says Contract ID Entertainment.com 2012. I just reserved it yesterday. Did you make your reservation before 2012?

Thanks. Re-booked...again. Got $87 for full-size March 3-8; smaller car would be a few dollars less.

I really don't expect to do better than this but I'll keep checking...
