March 2012 Rental Car?

What r ur dates?? We r march 28-apr 2. Looking like we won't be renting a car :confused3. Such high rates

I wouldn't give up yet. Rates often get a lot lower when the date gets considerably closer. I'd keep my options open if I were you. Only problem with your dates is that you're finishing up in that high demand week before Easter, so you might not see deeply discounted rates...but that wouldn't stop me from continuing to look.

Even a US resident can book on expedia.ca. I see the following from Feb 28 - Mar 2nd. Note rates are CAN dollars and include all taxes.

Compact $78.04 Dollar $80.52 Budget
Midsize $80.00 Dollar $82.50 Budget
Fullsize $83.90 Dollar $86.46 Budget

Budget has a pretty good code right now, •Use offer code (BCD) D454300
it says compact 119/week and int. SUV 159/week.

Have you guys tried the above Budget code for the late March dates? I thought I had a great rate before (using BCD X474200; $275 for Spring Break week), but I just rebooked for $200 (w/ taxes) with the above code. Thanks britfish!

Alamo Insider rates with 2-upgrade coupon (from Alamo site) just improved for my March 3-8 trip. Not as good as the expedia.ca rates but getting close. I'll keep shopping...:goodvibes

I was doing my weekly check of National's rates today and was able to rebook my March ressie using the Emerald Aisle code with the $35 coupon for $179. I have a full size booked for March 1-11. Just to double check, I reran my info with the flying blue code and it is still around 285 so it looks like the EA code is the one I will be using. I'm super excited about this rate - I'm not sure I can get an lower on National for my dates.

What is the Emerald Aisle Code? is the $35 coupon from Mousesavers?

When I said Emerald Aisle code - I'm referring to the one that National automatically inserts in the code section if you are an EA or EEA member (5007125). The $35 coupon I got off of mousesavers.

Yes. You can join the Air France frequent flyer group to be eligible for this rate. I have to admit, I didn't bother with that step. I've never, ever been asked for my group membership cards at MCO when picking up my cars.

There is something very weird about that Air France Discount. Has anyone used it yet and had it work at the rental counter? It includes all the taxes, recoup fees, and every other fee in the very discounted base rate. It also includes the extra insurance(s) for nothing which would normally be expenses. I have never seen a discount code do this before. It also showed another line were it actually credited some of the tax back due to the $35 National Coupon being applied. For anyone who booked it, check out the line by line on the reservation online (slightly different than what is shown on the email confirmation). It also shows the contract idea as XXXXXXX on the reservation when the Continental code I used before showed on that reservation. Anyone else think something is not right? Here is the breakdown on the car I reserved. Note that the 6% state tax shown that is calculated is also not 6% of anything I can see.

Using a code that is questionably not "mine" would carry some concern. If you have no accidents/incidents then you probably will be fine, but what if something DOES happen and the insurance policy is suppose to kick in. What if somewhere in the fine print you aren't a member or resident of the right club or country, etc. You are left paying out of pockets for the car, care and liability/non-use fees. Those chances are just not worth saving the money for me.

Who said anyone using the code would not be a member? The Air France Flying Blue club is free and can be joined by U.S. customers. . . then you get the email linking you to the page some put on the last page. As far as the insurance, that is a contract with National and would have nothing to do the club membership except for the fact that it was part of the discount. Most anyone who carries US based insurance on their own car would be covered for liabilty anyway, irregardless of what extra bonus coverage you purchase (That is the case with IL auto insurance anyway. . .you of course are subject to your deductible/limits/etc.).

I do worry about the rate being honored for U.S./ American renters though as it says it is 20% off Passport rates. Even though I could not find anything about passport rates on the National website, I did a quick search on it and saw that they were special rates on the European market and included taxes b/c that is standard for how the rental companies do it in Europe. I am not sure that the rate will be honored even with a Flying Blue club card that anyone can get if it is a U.S. customer. Although, my reservation is under my Emerald # and also clearly shows my country of residence as US above the total rate at the bottom. I am interested to see if this does or has worked for a U.S. Customer. . . especially an Emerald Club member who does not even have to go to the desk.

I also noticed that if you try to modify the reservation on the National.com site it tells you it cannot be modified on the site ???

Thanks for posting this, I had booked a minivan with BCD X474200 for $295 for the week. I just rebooked for an elite (7 passenger) SUV for $229 plus another $30 off via coupon! :cool1:

I was able to book using the D454300 budget rate for a suv for approx 200 a week. Great deal, but coupon terms says blackout date for Florida march 29-April 8. The dates I need fall into that blackout date. Does that mean when I go the counter, they will refuse my great weekly rate and be charged for $600-700 going rate instead? Anyone had that happened?

Improved Alamo rate for March 3-8 down to $118 for full-size ($110 for smaller car) using Alamo Insider and $30 off coupon on Alamo Insider site. This now beats the expedia.ca site and I should be able to go directly to the car or at the very worst use a kiosk.:thumbsup2

I'm still going to keep an eye out for better rates...

Can anyone give me some info? I am looking at booking a car through Budget.com (pay there) or Expedia.ca (pay now) and can save $110 on Expedia.ca using D454300 on both sites. Expedia says all taxes & fees are included but I am curious because the price on Budget before tax is coincidentally the same as the Expedia price.

Has anyone rented through Expedia (paying at time of booking) and had any problems with extra charges when picking up the car?

Thanks:thumbsup2

Do keep looking. Sometimes the last minute rate for Alamo (usually code IG) can get even lower than what you have. And one tip on the kiosk...what we usually do is have one of us (i.e., me) go do the Alamo kiosk while others wait for baggage. Generally, you can walk right up to the kiosk and complete your rental, because most people don't use it and get in line.

Alamo must be having a slow period in early March - my rental for 6 days on 03/03 has dropped below $100 a.i. for a full-size with the Costco rebate. This is now half the rate I first booked a few months ago. Do keep looking at the rates - you never know when they can drop. Go Alamo !

Booked a mid-size car March 2-8 at MCO for $166 through Hotwire. Rental ended up being through Enterprise.

Have used Hotwire many times and have never had a problem...except when I was upgraded in Atlanta to a premium car.
