March 2009 Code Watch

We're only doing 6 nights too, but were still able to save a little over $254, plus the $200 gift card! Normally, I would have upgraded our hotel when a discount came out. But with this economy, we're just staying in a value resort this time around. I'm just thankful that we're going!

I hear ya! This is our first trip and I was reading how everyone was talking about upgrading their resort and thought, well should we? I just had a scare last week that I was going to lose my job and they stopped layoffs at my position (for now anyway). So my goal is to enjoy the parks and have a blast with the kids. I'm thankful as well that we are going and as long as there's a bed with 4 walls I'm good. The kids will get more of a kick out of POP anyway and that's who it's for (mostly :rolleyes1 ).

I am struggling with the whole upgrade issue - I had my heart set on POR, but I am thinking of going to POP just to save some more $$. We can only do five nights, so it isn't a huge savings with the 4/3, but the $200 gift card will be VERY handy! :)

Hello fellow CNY'er!!! That gift card is a great plus!! For us that will cover the extra ADR's I had planned OOP and DD's BBB plus a little left over. I just wish we could have stayed one more night (through 4/4) since that's my DD's actual birthday and she could have gotten the perks for that but I can't justify $300 to change our flights by a day.

ok, I just have to chime in here about "upgrading" & POP....you guys...POP is awesome!!! We have stayed there 5 times now...I love the resort & so do my kids...in fact, when I asked where we should stay this trip they both said POP...I had wanted to try different resorts...I'd love to say someday that I've stayed in all of them....My kids said that was ok, as long as we stayed SOME of the trip at POP...so even though I'm psyched to be staying at AKL...my kids would be mad if it wasn't also tied to a few days at POP...if you've never stayed there, I think it's completely worth at least trying it...Now, I know a lot of folks here on the boards don't like POP...well I couldn't stand the Contemporary...it's all in what you like...we love the larger than life icons, the fun - albeit loud atmosphere...and the general layout of the resort...

that's just my .02 on POP century.

I so appreciate your .02!! We are excited to stay at POP (my DH's choice actually because of the 80's! theme). When you read all the comments about upgrading, you think you have to jump on the bandwagon so to speak because someone may be getting a better deal. I am glad we chose not to upgrade. For a first trip to Disney, what could be better than be surrounded by Disney icons!!!

Stay strong, lilyfrog73. Don't get caught up in the upgrades. Not that I'm putting people down for upgrading. We have done that for every one of our trips to WDW. But this time, we are counting our pennies and are staying at a Value. With times as tough as they are, I just can't spend $$$ on a deluxe this time around. For 7 days, we are paying less than $1500 for a trip to WDW. Normally, our trips are close to $3000. I'm thrilled to be cutting that cost in 1/2 by staying at a value!

Have fun on your first WDW trip. Get ready to become addicted!

For those of you considering staying longer, but have already purchased airfare......

I had to change a trip last December due to work commitments, but when I called the airline, was not charged a change fee because my flight leave time had changed by 4 minutes (woohoo!!). So, if you have booked a while ago, it might be worth a quick check on your flight ressies to see if the change fee would still apply to you.

I received the balance in the form of airline voucher (with Continental).

Good Luck!!

Seriously lilyfrog73 at your kids ages they will LOVE POP! Like I said earlier we've been there 5 different times now and I'm just now getting my girls at 14 & 9 1/2 to agree to stay somewhere else...but if they don't absolutely adore AKL, I know it'll be back to POP for us...The only other resort they have any interest in at all is the Poly...We've stayed at ASspoirt, ASMovies & ASMusic, and our first trip was the Contemp. in our book POP beats those hands down...(although the big giant dalmation at movies my girls love)...

Niks mom - we're the exact opposite...our trips usually cost around $1500, have always snagged free dining since it's been offered...this trip will be double that...BUT this is probably our last trip for awhile...it's just too hard now with my oldest in high school to go at the best times....& I do not function well in heat/sun! ...we're combining this trip w/ the marching band trip for oldest' and going all out (well all out for us)....

any way you slide it....

WE GOT A CODE FOR MARCH! how cool is that?:goodvibes :cool1:

I'll have to keep that in mind. Our flights have already changed once by an hour each. We got an email to accept the changes and did. A friend of DH's told us to not be surprised if they change again (flying JetBlue for first time and guess they do this often). Maybe next time I'll try to use it to my advantage and add that extra day.

This will probably be our last trip for a few years too. We stayed at AKL and our kids loved it. I'm sure your girls will love it there. I hope my kids love AS Movies! They are big Toy Story fans.

I did upgrade to CBR but that's because it was my dream resort to begin with but I knew we couldn't afford it. I really really debated it while on the phone and went with it. I've never stayed onsite before.

I know POP would be perfect too!!!!!!!!!!!! But I just love the look of the CBR. :goodvibes

:cool1:  :woohoo: :yay:  :cloud9: :cheer2: princess:

All 8 in our party are doing the happy dance, cuz we booked this deal, extended our stay from 6 nights to 7, and saved about $1200 including the gift cards!!!!!!

THANK YOU DISNEY!!!

Booked the deal for Spring Break (08) March 21 - March 29. Now all need is Southwest to cooperate. :goodvibes

We got the deal, too. With the gift card, we're saving about $700. I bought the plane tickets months ago. I thought about waiting to see what Southwest would have, but I got impatient.

I'm on the phone right now...We are finally booking our Spring Break Graduation Celebration!

So what flight did you book? Now there is a new flight (haven't looked into yet) from Owensboro, KY to Orlando for $69.00 one way?? :confused3

Let me know and I will let you know...:thumbsup2

I booked a Delta flight out of Louisville. I paid $298 per person round trip. Not exactly cheap, but not too bad.

On the news this morning, they were talking about Allegent Air. Apparently, they have a ton of complaints with the Better Business Bureau

Ok! All Booked! 7 days 8 nights POP with the $200 gift card....we also booked our airfare through them to get the 6months no intrest from VISA..WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY!!!!!
