Do you have some Irish blood in you? Fun to celebrate on a cruise!

It is so cold here this weekend that we have just stayed indoors, watched golf and caught up on our vacation planning. We have the FE gifts in shape, and even watched the Magic sail away from Port Canaveral last night. Two ships left before her, and it was interesting to see how the party atmosphere of the Disney ship was infectious.
The dog got me up too early this morning and with visions of the Magic fresh in my mind, I thought I’d share my very random list of tips and tricks. Please let me know yours!
1. I always bring a cardboard drinks carrier – the kind you get at a fast food joint. Once I grabbed it at the food court at the airport, and other times in the Contempo Café at the Contemporary Resort. I love to get up early on the cruise and go upstairs to get coffee and hot chocolate for the sleepier ones in the room. The drinks carrier makes it much easier!
2. We brought a shoe holder once. Found it helped to reduce the clutter on the surfaces, and was an easy place to stuff sunglasses, lanyards and sunscreen. This time I’m wavering. We’ll see how the packing goes. (I do know that Disney does not allow these to be over the door anymore, and guests are to be responsible for any damage. However, my idea was to clip it onto a hanger in the closet.)
3. Always bring a highlighter, because it’s a great way to identify all the activities in the Navigator for the next day. This is DD’s favourite thing to do while she’s lying in bed.
4. We have packed a nightlight on previous occasions. It’s helped me not stub my foot as I step up into the bathroom in the middle of the night.
5. I always overpack sunscreen. Two of us are fair, and I never want to risk being stuck without protection from the sun. I also have a stockpile of cream for after-sun.
6. Magnets and a whiteboard. We love to decorate our door. And the whiteboard is great to keep track of DD. In fact, we have two – one outside, and one inside. She’s very good about always leaving us a note to let us know what she’s up to.
7. Pack a zip tie for the fish extender. We’ve never had any gifts disappear, that we know of. And it may seem odd, but I want to be sure that the Fish Extender itself doesn’t go missing. We use the zip tie to tightly bind it to the fish. Accordingly, I have a small pair of travel scissors that we use to cut it the night before the cruise ends.
8. I pack toiletries in separate clear bags that I’ve collected over the years. I found that this works really well because of the two bathrooms on the Disney ships. For example: each of us has our own personal toiletries bags. Then I have one for sunscreen and creams, another for medications (Advil, PeptoBismol, cough drops, etc.). It saves digging through Mom’s bag to find everything, and they’re easy to find. The generic bags stay in the bathroom with the shower.
9. Dollar bills for tips. We love to order a cheese tray when we sailaway, Mickey bars for DD at night, the occasional snack during the week. We keep an envelope of singles ready to share with the staff.
10. A bag of candies for the characters who will sign the photo matte. We drop off the photo matte at Guest Services in a large Ziploc bag and include a thank you note, as well as a bag of yummy candy.
11.We have learned to be a bit more minimalistic on the packing front. The killer is DH’s suit and his shoes for formal night, which take up a lot of space just for one outing. But over the rest of the days we realized that we are in bathing suits for much of the time and so don't need as many clothes as one might think. We usually pack two bathing suits each (that way there is usually one dry one to put on). We try very hard to keep the number of pairs of shoes to a minimum. (I did say try ... )
12.We make a point to befriend our room steward right away. We ask for only two things: wine glasses, and shampoo. (LOVE that H20 shampoo!) I am so impressed at how many of our stewards have greeted us by name, even when seeing us just walking down the hallway. They work very hard, and we appreciate it.
13.That said, I always bring some disinfectant wipes with us. I will wipe down the room as soon as we get in – telephone, remote, door handles, etc. I will either pack these in a Ziploc bag, or bring a container from home. I also bring several small containers of hand sanitizer and make sure they’re always with us.
14.We pack extra Ziploc bags of different sizes. This is very helpful to sort the goodies received in the FE gifts. We’ll separate out the candy into one bag, and gifts into another. Helps the packing for going home, because everything is contained.
15.We pre-pay the tips. That way one more cost is out of the way. That end of cruise bill is high enough already, LOL!
16.The last night is difficult enough – packing to get the bags out, making sure that you have your clothes and toiletries for the next morning, still wanting to head out to the clubs for fun… To save just a little bit of time, I bring labels with our names and addresses on them, so I can just stick them onto the baggage tags left that evening in the stateroom. (These tags are Disney characters, and will help you find your luggage in the customs hall the next morning.) This saves me about three minutes, probably, but seriously reduces my stress level!
Hooray! A meet thread!
This will be our sixth cruise with DCL -- gonna be gold, baby! It will be the fourth on the Magic in the same room, our second western.
I am happy to volunteer to organize the FE group. If you'd like to participate, please send me a PM with your stateroom number, names of grown-ups, as well as names and ages of kids.
I will maintain the list of staterooms and DISboard names in this post.

Hi! We just booked the Magic for March 15-22! Is it too late to sign up for the late FE list? We have two families that would like to sign up if possible! Thanks so much!! Autumn
No problem. Please provide me with your staterooms and details about the family members and I will update the list on page one.
I didnt plan an excursion for key west. Would love some tips from anyone that has been before.
Thanks,
