We would like to plan a vacation for March of 2006. We have the option of renting up to 100 DVC points at $9 per pt. (Friends) Should we pay for a value or use the points to stay at a nicer resort?
Could we use the points at a resort other than the DVC resorts?
Yes, you could, but don't. You can probably get better value paying cash at non-DVC resorts, and you will get MUCH better value using the points at a DVC property.
What should you do? Who knows? You haven't given us any information except that you are talking about March '06. How many people? Ages? Length of stay? What do you want to do while you are there?
Sorry, My DW just got her schedule for next year and I got really excited about planning a trip.
It would be the two of us and our two kids 5-8. We would stay one week. We've gone several times before and tried different types of lodging. Value, moderate, off site. The difference between a value and moderate didn't do a whole lot for us. We didn't spend much time at the resort anyway. The kids are still young enough to enjoy the value resort.
My thought was book Saturday night at a value then use the points for a Sunday-Friday stay at a DVC. It seems the points would come out to $99 / night. About average rack rate for a value but staying at a DVC. Does this sound worthwhile?
Be aware that some DVC resorts do not have studios with two beds in them though. Some only have studios with one bed and one pull out sofa. OKW has two queen beds, and will be a bit larger. If you stay at OKW, you can stay in a studio for the whole week for 109 points. That would be $981 for the whole week, and you would have a kitchenette to do inexpensive breakfasts in the room and 2 real beds. A one bedroom at OKW with a full kitchen and laundry and whirlpool tub would be 110 points for 5 nights or $990.
