Listening to another podcast, they had a discussion about Marceline. Anyone ever been there? I would LOVE to go there for a day or two and am wondering if it is really worth it.

I feel so ashamed. Marceline is only about an hour and a half from my house and I've never been there. I really need to go and spend an afternoon sometime. I recall reading a mini trip report somewhere on the boards about someone that went to Marceline and stayed overnight. I know they have a small Disney museum.

Thanks for mentioning this, DPuck!

I was truly touched by my trip to Marceline, Missouri for Father's Day a couple of weeks ago! I could really feel Walt's presence there in the sights and people that I got to meet! It was so incredible!

I hope that you all give today's show a listen, as we talk about what there is in Marceline, and why, if you are here on the Disboards, you would love to be there sometime in your lifetime! :) Just click on the link in my signature to give it a listen! :) I would love to take the DIS Unplugged Team there sometime, as I know you all would LOVE being there! :) Thanks for all you do on your podcast! I love it!

Happy Monday, everyone!

Thanks Don. :thumbsup2 Almost missed this. I've never been and look forward to the listen.

Anything for you Jorge! I'm looking forward to taking a road trip here someday.

I live about 4-5 hours away and we thought about visiting. We still think about it but I can't find any decent hotel/motel near there.

I'm going to listen to the link above. Thanks

I would suggest the uptown B&B, seems to be the best option.

I've been to Marceline. I have a friend who's husband is from there. It's a nice small town, but I don't think of it as an "attraction" per se for an overnight stay, but it would not make a bad day trip.

When my bff's husband was in high school, there was this rumor that if you showed up at WDW and could prove you were from Marceline, you got in free. Not true, but sure to fire the imagination of teens!

I say we plan a weekend and go! I've never been, and I'm only four hours away.

I'm in, will be hard to squeeze it in this summer, but lets see what we can do.

If you're planning to visit Marceline in the summer/fall timeframe, you might consider attending the city's annual Toonfest celebration. The entire community gathers in the town square area for arts and crafts, a parade, children's activities, an art show and silent auction, tours of the Walt Disney's Hometown Museum, and more. This year it's taking place on September 19. You can find out more here:

I just listened to this the other day and was wishing I were closer, I would really love to go.

Oh my how weird is that? I listened to that last night going to work and I was all pumped and wishing I could get there one day. Way too far for me to just go easily. I really want to get there! Thinking about how I would add it to my "bucket list" and then came here to write a thread on bucket lists!

WOW great minds think alike :)

We're about 4 hours away, and I hate to admit I didn't know that Marceline, MO was Walt Disney's childhood home. I think it would make an interesting side trip, when we go to KC.

I'd definitely like to do this! I went with my dd on a field trip to our State Capital (Jefferson City, MO) back in May, and the most exciting part of my day was when we saw the bust statue of Walt Disney in the capitol building as one of Missouri's famous people.
It wouldn't be that far of a drive for us, either!

It really is a place that you would really enjoy if you are here on the DISBoards! Obviously, you are a pretty big Disney fan, and you could really appreciate the history behind Main Street, USA in Marceline! It is something that really makes you feel special knowing that Walt was once here and was really touched by this small town!

I would definitely encourage everyone to give it a shot if you are not too far away! And staying in the Uptown B&B is really a treat!

And thanks to those who listened to the podcast! I hope you enjoyed it!

Wow. I just listened to this podcast today and am ashamed to admit I had no idea what Marceline even was. I know...a DISer and no clue about the history of Disney. I only recently became addicted to Disney and am just getting into the history.

Mike - I love the podcast - it is one of several I listen to (in addition to the DIS Unplugged of course :thumbsup2).

I traveled today and listened to some past episodes including the Hurricanes one (very interesting) and space shuttle launches. I had no idea you were a weather buff and into the space stuff...we have several things in common!

I am glad you are on these boards too! They are awesome.

Great podcast and keep it up - you have listeners like me that you may not even know about. :)

I was there once as a little guy, visiting a friend's relatives. Too young to remember much though. I've been thinking about making a trip over there, it's only like 110 miles away. Guess I need to make it happen.
