Marathon Weekend - Where ya staying, how long, etc...

I apoligize if a thread like this has already been started...if so, if you don't mind directing me to it, that would be GREAT!

I am wondering...for those of you guys that have signed up (or plan to sign up)...and don't mind sharing with the DIS world...

Where are you staying?
What dates are you staying?
Which race are you participating in (racing or volunteering)?
How are you getting to Disney?
What mode of transportation are you planning to use while in Disney?



I am not sure where I am staying?
Thinking about arriving on Thursday Jan 7 and going home Wed Jan 13th?
Doing the HALF! That is FOR SURE!
Not sure if I will drive or fly?
If I drive, I will have my car. If I fly, I will stay on site and use Disney transportation!

This will help give me an idea of where folks are staying, etc. I will be going solo...unless I decide to join a Team in Training...so I am just wondering what folks are planning to do.

Also...when do we normally do some sort of DIS meet? Don't want to miss anything!!

I am also in a state of indecision. We're registered for the full marathon on Jan 10, but are not sure how long we'll be staying for. We'll definitely be flying down (Seattle is a long ways away! ) and we're probably staying at a value (POP or ASMovies, if it gets a rehab this year). We're getting married in July, so I'm pushing to combine the Marathon Weekend trip with our honeymoon and do a few more days at Disney before driving down to the Florida Keys for a few more days. However, the weather won't be fantastic that time of year, so my fiance is a bit against the idea. He also is not a huge Disney fan and would rather we just fly in to Orlando for the marathon and then leave. If we do decide to go that route, we'll be flying in Friday, Saturday packet pick-up and then MK or Epcot, and then the marathon on Sunday, and fly home Monday. I would rather not, but money is tight this year, with the wedding.

We did the half last year and stayed Wednesday-Sunday at WL, which was great, but it looks like a deluxe or extra park days are not in the schedule for this year.

I am doing the half, with my FIL and a bunch of friends from around the country. We are flying down on Fri early, staying at POFQ until Sunday, then going over to Port Canaveral for a cruise on Freedom of the Seas. We have to drop FIL off at the airport on our way, as he doesn't want to go on the cruise (huh). We are flying to FL, love SWA direct flights. We may rent a car for the weekend, haven't decided yet.

I didn't want to open the thread and then not answer. But I'm not sure of all the answers yet. Last year, we arrived the Saturday before and flew out the Monday after the marathon, and stayed at POP (because of the WISH meet). We rented a car.

This year, our schedule will be quite different. Here's what I can answer.

Where are you staying? I don't know yet. Maybe I'll shack up with one of you?
What dates are you staying? Still unsure, but we have to fly out the Monday after the race. Maybe come in Wednesday and hit the expo the first day. We're not planning on doing the parks this time around (gasp). Unless I need tix to do some WISH meets--but that's a whole 'nother layer of fun.
Which race are you participating in (racing or volunteering)? Doing the Dopey (5K on Friday + Goofy). That's why we're not planning on touring the parks. Last year we volunteered for the 1/2 marathon and did the full. Volunteering can be lots of fun, btw!
How are you getting to Disney? Flying
What mode of transportation are you planning to use while in Disney? We always rent a car for the convenience. I'm hoping to take the busses to the start for the race, though, just for the camaraderie. Unless DOOD caves & we get to stay at the Poly.

I haven't got anything booked yet but I am planning on staying at POP.

Not sure about the dates yet.

I will be doing a repeat of this past year. Do the 5k and the half and volunteer for the full.

I will be driving my car down, as per usual.

I really want to do the full this year but I have a feeling I will not have the discretionary funds after the podcast cruise and my other race roadrips. It's times like this I want to be back living in Tampa <insert sigh>. It will depend on finding a really cheap deal and someone to come with me to share the room/rental car cost.

Staying at Poly, POFQ or POP (I know, big differences) I liked staying at the Poly this year and last!

Doing the Half for sure, but possibly doing the Full instead. Possibly the 5k and volunteering.

Arriving Thursday for the first day of the EXPO and staying until Monday but hopefully Tuesday.

Driving as I live S. FL.

The disBoards WISH racing team has a meet on Friday at the Pop. There are some loosely organized events like the Breakfast on Monday morning at the Boardwalk. There was a desert party planned and was very nice at EPCOT during Illuminations.

Where are you staying? IN addition to my quest for Goofy, I am also on a quest to stay at all of the Disney hotels. I figured I would stay POR for Marathon weekend since I like the pasta bar at the food court and figured I could eat there before the races. However, I may be going in Oct. with another group and they are all staying at POR. So, if I go in October, I will pick another resort for Marathon weekend

What dates are you staying? I plan to arrive on Thursday 1/7, and hope to stay until at least Tuesday, possibly Wednesday

Which race are you participating in (racing or volunteering)? I am signed up for the Goofy

How are you getting to Disney? Most likely by plane. I took a bump on my last trip with this in mind, so I have a $200 credit with Delta

What mode of transportation are you planning to use while in Disney? I like to have ****** provide airport transportation. I like the grocery stop--particularly if I want to eat my normal fare before the races. If the dollars are not there, I will use ME. Disney transport while I am there

Oh great, it's bad enough I have to run in those funny little shorts, but now I have to get into a swim suit. At least I have my nice Mickey beach cover up so that I can....cover up!

As for me, and since I haven't actually committed to do a race yet, this is all tentative.... Would fly in Thursday, out Monday. Stay at PO-FQ (had a ressie there last time but upgraded to WL with a Passholder rate--no such luck this time). Thinking about doing the full. Always rent a car--I just like the convenience too much and January I only paid $68 total for one

Where are you staying? Funds permitting, I would love to stay at the Poly again! The location and the staff are both amazing! I also liked being able to take the monorail to the start and back to the hotel. Although I would have walked and stretched a little more before going back to the hotel. DF didn't do too well walking back to the hotel from the TTC after the race.

What dates are you staying? - Not sure but we'll probably arrive on the Wednesday or Thursday.

Which race are you participating in (racing or volunteering)? - Probably just running the 1/2

How are you getting to Disney? - Probably plane.

What mode of transportation are you planning to use while in Disney? - If we stay at the Poly, we'll just use buses and the monorail. Anywhere else, we'll rent a car.

Another couple (who are not involved in WISH) are joining us, and it's only thier second time to Disney so we will spend quite a bit of time showing them around. I'm hoping to make it to at least one of the meets, I'll just have to see how it works out with my friends.
