My friend is going to WDW to participate in the marathon and we're trying to figure out what best works for her regarding resort and passes.

I'm thinking she needs to get an AP b/c of the length of her stay, the access to the DDE (can she get that being from England?), and some AP rates.

Now considering this is January (slow time), will codes be out for that time? I can't find the historical trends chart on mousesavers (anyone got it?). She's considering deluxes (Yacht, GF, BC) but is finding many are booked for the weekend.

Any advice?

Also, if you went during this time, did you get a discount?

I think getting an AP is great if their stay is long enough to at least break even on that.

Last year when booking for our family--I found that Fla Resident and AP rates were available in October. I am not certain if that is when they were first available, but that is when we booked my family--I was staying with Team in Training. Our stay was split between value and mod when all was said and done.

I do know that Coronado is sold out and someone said that standard rooms at Wilderness lodge were sold out. I called--and the full 2006 rates have not been loaded, so anything booked in the near future would quite likely be booked at rack rate and later adjusted.

I would advise your friend to book now--and then make adjustment when codes are released.

Theory is that since the race is 2 days--that Disney is allowing for the same field for each race as was allowed for both races combined last year--so the potential is there for double the participants. Not sure how likely that is--but it might explain while rooms are starting to disappear out of inventory.

AP Room discounts are never guaranteed, and frankly with so many of the resorts already being full or close to it.I almost tend to doubt there will be any discounts--why bother selling rooms at a discounted rate when you're already full?

I got prices for the Poly and Contemp a few months ago. They were pretty high. They could only tell me what the AP's got last year. Of course, I forget what the prices were now. I decided we would use our DVC points for my marathon trip instead of paying cash. Maybe you could look into getting her a DVC rental. At $10 a point for a studio in Jan, it would probably be pretty darn cheap. Plus, even with a studio, she would get a kitchenette.
