We were planning on DL for the Nov.9 - 12 weekend this year, but it seems all the close hotel are sold out already or double in price. I expected the price increase due to holiday weekend, but was really surprised so many close hotels sold out so early. would this be because of the marathoners booking ahead and are the crowds going to be horrendous?

Most of the runners book when we book our bibs. And a lot of runners stay at the hotels (getting up at 4am is better than 3am if you are offsite.) Crowds will be big, not just the runners, but it will be opening weekend for Christmas.

Prices appear to be much higher for that weekend this year than they were last year. I'm not sure why.

Thank you both. I would like to go a different weekend. We are flexible but the grandkids don't want to miss any jr. high school.

The Camelot was sold out of the suites. When we called they said to try back in August. I think there is a convention that week too, maybe blocks of rooms are held?? The run isn't sold out yet so I don't really understand either

It looks like the American Heart Association is having its annual meeting in Anaheim Nov 11-15. Perhaps that's it. Their web site says they expect around 18,000 attendees.

You might check getawaytoday. They appear to have rooms that weekend at the Tropicana and Del Sol Inns.

bad, bad, bad, bad weekend. not to be Debbie downer but - marathon weekend + holiday + possible holiday season opening and it's a rough crowd. Last year during that weekend pics of the esplanade showed DL lines backed up to DCA and DCA lines backed up to DL. We almost did that last year and I wanted to avoid the marathon (been there, made that mistake) and reports later made it sound way worse than I had thought. I would really try to go a different weekend if you can. If not - make the most of fast passes and get there early :)

Yes, it was very crowded last year. However, if you know what to expect and go first thing in the morning, it's not that bad. It (mostly) didn't feel too overcrowded inside the parks to me, it just took a long time to get in.

I was at DL during the Tink 1/2 last month. I wouldn't normally choose to go on a marathon weekend, but I was in the area on business and figured a one day trip would be fun. Mother's Day+Race=Crazy Crowds. Even the morning was crazy because the parks open an hour later. We were at the rope at rope drop and used fastpasses extremely well, but it was a crazy day. No more marathon weekends for me.
