Marathon Weekend 2027

I have been on the disboards (in general) for a long time (maybe before some of you were born ) and especially love the support and care from the RunDisney peeps here. I have been reading this thread since we returned from princess last week, thinking to myself "how nice, I hope everyone has a smooth registration next week" and "boy, I am happy to sit this one out...we only like the half distance anyway..."

Then yesterday around 9am, all the thoughts start to creep in..."well, we *could* go for a quick weekend in January and simply run the half...lemme check to see if any rooms are available at my home resorts...oh look, yes, there are a couple options...airfare is cheaper in January...it's only a few days..."

Uh, what happened to my statement to DH last week, "we will only do princess weekend, that's more than enough...." My willpower is SO weak. The FOMO is so strong. And one RunDisney weekend per year just does not feel like enough....

Sigh. Does anyone have any advice on how to convince DH that I could just try to register next week and if we get in, great....?? .

As an unrelated side note, DS, who is almost 24, is starting pharmacy school in the fall of 2026 and has narrowed down his top schools...right now, the University of Florida (Gainsville) is his second choice but if he ends up attending, boy could I use this as leverage! QUICK PARENT VISIT!!!

Anyway...I have 4 days to work on DH, wish me luck gang.

See that is slander. We threw snowballs at Santa. Batteries were thrown at JD Drew who sat out the previous season in a contract dispute or something. Only an animal would throw batteries at Santa.

As much as this group excels at enabling, I have a slightly different perspective and that is "just because your friends are doing something doesn't mean that you have to." It's okay to be different.

After doing Dopey twice, I decided that I'd been there, done that, and was ready to move on. My body doesn't like the marathon distance. I can do a half marathon and then continue on with my day. A marathon, I'm feeling crummy for at least 2 days afterward. And as my friend so rightly put it, with Dopey, the trip was running with a side of vacation. I wanted to enjoy my trip more.

This past year, I "just" did the 10K and half and it was one of the best trips that I've had. We got to sleep in and enjoy a full park day instead of doing the 5K. Then I spectated for the marathon, which was SO MUCH FUN. What I didn't expect was being able to enjoy meet-ups more because I didn't have to measure standing around with saving my time on feet for the marathon. We were also able to stay at Disney Springs for a while on Saturday night, knowing that I didn't have run in the morning. Plus, there was never one ounce of FOMO for the entire weekend. In fact, I said "I'm so glad that I'm not doing Dopey" numerous times to my traveling partner.

So the people out there that are on the fence, it is possible to "just" do whatever you are thinking of and it is 100% okay. And if the FOMO does strike, MW2028 will roll around and then you'll know what you want to do then.

Running with a side of vacation is a great way to put it! (and such a healthy comment here)

As I try to tell my kids, you need to learn to be happy with what you're doing, there will always be more to do, and you literally cannot do it all.

I thoroughly enjoyed my "only the Marathon" in 2025. I may sign up for other things this year, but the challenge runners are really the minority, (they're just over represented in the cool kids we have here)

I mean, we have ways. But honestly I think leaving it to fate is not a bad idea. If you get in, it was meant to be. And bonus potential DS visit just sweetens the pot!

Or All Star Music family suite. Dopey runner sleeps in the living room, Goofy runner sleeps in the bedroom. And each gets their own bathroom.

I canceled our little weekend getaway due to weather forecasts and we’re not even supposed to be getting the worst of it. Didn’t want to risk getting stranded or putting my car in the ditch.

Being dead on registration day would’ve been highly inconvenient.

Good morning RunDisney All-Stars! Welcome to Sundays Are For Disney (SAFD) March Movie Madness! In year's past, we've crowned our favorite WDW attractions and restaurants in our very own elimination tournament. This year we're going to pick our favorite Disney movie. This is the second weekend populating our brackets by listing out favorites in these categories:

1. Disney Animation (including Don Bluth films now owned by Disney)
2. Pixar Animation
3. Disney Live Action (Ex. Mary Poppins, Pirates of the Caribbean, live action remakes, Old Yeller, Parent Trap, 2,000 Leagues Under the Sea, etc.)
4. Disney Acquired Live Action IP (Ex. Star Wars, Avengers, Aliens, the Muppets, Indiana Jones, etc.)

Today's SAFD is what are your top 3 movies in categories 3 & 4 in order? We'll start the knock outs next weekend. Please don't add extras to or have ties in your list. I have to score all the answers out to ensure we get the best match ups possible and that makes it much harder to do. Let the games continue!

Nightmare Before Christmas was technically produced by Disney (Touchstone Pictures). But so was Pretty Woman if you're going to include all of those movies!

So, is this including everything from Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures in category 3? If so, it becomes very difficult because of too many choices. If not, it’ll be hard for me to find 3 for that bracket.

To complicate things further, I am looking at the D23 list of Disney films. This includes Touchstone films and Hollywood Pictures films. The, potentially very confusing, twist is that it also includes all of the Marvel films produced after Disney acquired Marvel. Meaning films post-2012, basically starting with the original Avengers, are Disney live-action films and not “acquired” as they were produced when the company was already owned by Disney. This extends to all of the Lucasfilm newer Star Wars films as well.

This does not affect my list for Bracket 4, but may change others.

Bracket 4 Acquired IP

I will start with easier of the two brackets. Along with the Back to the Future trilogy, these are the movies I have watched more than anything else and are my favorite movies of all-time. I don’t have A New Hope, Return of the Jedi, or Temple of Doom listed; but they would have been 4-6 (probably in that order)

1. Raiders
2. Empire Strikes Back
3. Last Crusade

Splitting hairs between 2 and 3. I actually switched them while writing and before posting. Raiders competition is Back to the Future for overall #1 and, fortunately, I don’t have to answer that question here.

Bracket 3 Disney Live Action

1. High Fidelity
2. Tombstone
3. Con Air

I went all 90’s early-2000’s Touchstone/Hollywood Pictures with my votes. Probably throwing my votes away, but so many of the movies I watched when I was growing up were from those Disney studios. These were some of my favorites. Depending on interpretation, this category either contains the most or the fewest viable options (in my opinion); I chose the interpretation that gave the most options.
