Marathon Weekend 2027

For any of us non-DVC'ers who still want Deluxe resort benefits but at better than Disney prices, the Swan Reserve currently has (at least) 1/5 to 1/12 available with the D23 Gold rate and it's a pretty good rate ($349 average). I was able to get 1/5 to 1/7 at the SR and then moving to Dolphin on 1/7 (though I'll continue to keep an eye throughout the year to see if I can get all my nights at either the Swan or Dolphin.Reserve is still a bit far.

Dopey weekends are all about Dopey, and for me that means that everything is planned around it.
100% I should have mentioned in my pro/con list! For better or worse, I was a lot more relaxed with bedtimes and park touring during Goofy than Dopey. (I don't recommend this - but having two more mornings to sleep in made later nights with the kids in the parks more tolerable...). It is less "all encompassing" than Dopey.

And as you can see from my ambivalence and the comments, "all encompassing" has its costs and benefits!

I love Dopey, I’m a Perfect Dopey, I can’t imagine going to MW and not doing Dopey! I know i mentioned it in another post, but getting up early, riding the bus, walking to the corral, it’s all part of the fun for me. I would literally do it every weekend if possible. My first rD event was Goofy in 2013. I remember thinking that doing a full the day after a half was crazy and I just had to try it. Once Dopey was announced I knew I was going to do it. I honestly don’t think the 5K and 10k make it any more difficult as far as the running is concerned. If you can do Goofy, adding those two extra races is negligible. I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but every other race outside of Disney is essentially over once you walk out of the finisher chute. Marathon Weekend lasts well over a week. There’s the excitement the day or two before the expo when runners start to show up. The (somewhat) excitement of going to the expo to pick up your bib(s), the camaraderie with the other runners at the bust stop or post race in the parks, the people wearing their medals days after the races are over, it’s such a great event. I will literally run these races as long as my legs function. I love it. I vote Dopey or die!

First off , thanks to those who shared charity info! GKTW is one I’m familiar with and may start there, but good to hear that people have had good experiences with several!!

It’s interesting to read the Dopey/Goofy debate. My first MW was 10k/marathon and I loved that! This past year we did Dopey and had a lot of fun! I had said this would be a one and done…. Maybe Goofy for a shorter trip, fewer early mornings, etc. Instead, I’m hoping for Dopey again. 😂. In my head Goofy is definitely a better choice, but I think my fomo makes Dopey the winner. And yes… if there was a 10k/M challenge I could definitely be talked into that!

Are you guys getting any of the snow this weekend? We're supposed to get 3-6", maybe more here. It would be our biggest snowfall in years.
They are saying 0 to 3 inches. With super cold weather behind it. I need to go to Mom’s this weekend so I am hoping it’s not a big event, so I might be screwed 😂. We did not go last weekend because of the ice.

I didn't chime in earlier, but I've run the last couple of years with the Scott Carter Foundation and have next year's bib reserved through them already. They've been a good group to work with and their fundraising goals are very reasonable.

Good luck! I hope it isn't too bad for you! Our youngest daughter doesn't have reliable heat in her apartment, so she and her large dog and 2 cats have been staying with us since last weekend. Looks like they'll be hanging out a while longer with this new blast of wintry weather!

Hey fellow RunDisers - I have not run a WDW race since my health scare after the 2017 Dopey, but I am looking to jump back in. I plan to run in 2027, Dopey for me and a mixed bag of races for my wife and a group of friends coming down with us.

I have two questions for this esteemed group, if you please. When do you estimate that race registration will open to the public, and how quickly will the various races sell out? If I have to register a bunch of individuals, I will need to put together a plan.

Thank you in advance.

Marathon Weekend goes on sale to the general public on March 17th and the historical sell out times are at this link https://www.disboards.com/threads/historical-race-weekend-sell-out-timing.3844193/ .

One curveball for this coming year is the addition of more 5K spots. That’s typically the race to sell out first but it might be different this year with the change. We’ll have a better idea of the impact after the W&D registration on Feb 10th.

I also find the sell out thread a bit misleading. It’s good at identifying which races sell out first, but don’t interpret it to mean that you can wait an hour to login to the rD registration and still find a spot for MW. You want to be at logged in with multiple devices before the on sale time of 10A ET.

As far as planning for registration, make a priority list. Anything that is a "must-do" should be registered and paid for first, then go in and register people for the "want to do" races. Once you get through the entrance queue the first time, you can do as many transactions as you need to until you're done, or the races sell out.

Also, if anyone in your group has a "we all run this race, or none of us want to run this race" mentality, make sure to register all of those people in one transaction, because when the race sells out, any registrations that have not been paid for will be lost, so either you'll all get in, or none of you will.

Does anyone just do the marathon ? I’m thinking of signing up for the 10k and marathon. I’ve never run a marathon so the thought of goofy or dopey is overwhelming.

What is the minimum POT half marathon time for corral placement in the full marathon? I’ll trace down the POT thread and cross post.

Thx!

I ran just the marathon this year. Next year I’m signing up for the 10k and half hopefully.

You need a 2:22:00 hm or 1:46:00 10m for a POT in corral C.

Good morning, runDisney All-Stars! I just flipped my calendar to February, and wouldn't you know it? Sundays are for Disney!

I suspect some of our friends in the south are getting tagged with some wintry weather, so hopefully @camaker and you all don't mind me jumping in on SAFD this week.

For this week's SAFD, tell us about your runDisney experience. If you're new to runDisney, what are your runDisney plans for the coming year?

My first runDisney race (and first marathon ever) was the 2017 Marathon, hence my desire to come back next year for my personal 10 year anniversary. I returned in 2019 for Dopey and then did Goofy in 2020 and 2022 (I think those were the years). While the races are great, I love the high school reunion feel of Marathon Weekend - old friends from around the world gathering to catch up, run a few races, and have a few drinks.

Stay warm and safe this week, All-Stars!

SAFD My first runDisney race was a 2016 Castaway Cay 5K, where I found out that there were races through the parks. Having never run before a I started a new habit and did Princess, Star Wars, and Wine and Dine in 2017 working my way up to the two-course challenge (my first half and still my most memorable finish line). My first marathon was 2019 and I’ve been Dopey ever since, soon to be signing up for 2027. Usually do three weekends a year (no more Princess) and always look forward to the pre race meetups.

SAFD: Thanks for jumping in @lhermiston! The winter weather ended up being largely a bust where I am, unfortunately. We were dead center in the dreaded "dry slot" between the two systems and sat watching absolutely nothing while getting pictures from my mother and daughter showing snow piling up higher and higher just a couple of hours to the west. They ended up with >12", while we were held to <2" by the time it filled in and reached us. Very disappointing.

On to the actual SAFD, now. My first RunDisney event was Marathon Weekend 2016, where I ran the 10k + Goofy. That was my first marathon, which was intended as a one-time "bucket list" item. Well, that didn't work out as planned, as I was hooked. I've attended every Marathon Weekend since, including participating in the 2021 virtual event, racking up 9 Dopeys and 2 Goofys. In addition to MW, I've run 2016 SWDS, 2016 & 2017 DLH and 2021 W&D.

As far as this year's plans go, I've already secured a charity bib to run my 10th Dopey at MW 2027.

SAFD: my first runDisney event was the 2021 Lion King Summer Virtual Series, which I only signed up for as motivation to get out and walk more so when I could go on Disney trips again, I wouldn't get so crippled up. I never thought I could run. Then I saw the Galloway training plans and decided to give it a try. I could run!

I signed up for all 3 virtual races at Wine & Dine 2021, and for the 5K, 10K, and Half virtual races at Marathon Weekend 2022, and then did my first in-person runDisney events at Princess Weekend 2022. I've been doing 2-3 race weekends every year since then, including my first Marathon, and Dopey, in 2025. I'm heading down for Princess and Springtime this year, and going for Dopey again in 2027.
