Marathon Weekend 2026

@Baloo in MI im in the same boat with my friend- I’m D, she’s F. I thought she’d be E and she’d catch up and I’d make up the difference waiting for her at the theoretical Donald and Daisy photo she wants. But in F….. I’m not comfortable waiting that long so early in the race (they are at the 10K). If they were at like mile 10, sure. But she’s good with it. I suspect She’ll still catch me around halfway or so and then we can stay together. Or not. I dont want to hold her back either.

Had a fun time today but wow was it crowded! This felt like the 2024 half o’half in terms of crowding and character lines. I compared my last few WDW halves and my run time was consistent but my idle time was about double this race (56 minutes) compared to other halves where I’ve done a similar amount of characters. Hoping for shorter lines tomorrow. They were really never short today and I started in the first wave or two of B!

As I was limping around getting my stuff ready for the morning I made the decision to pull the plug and DNS. Given my injuries late in training I knew this was a likely outcome and I am ok with it (although obviously disappointed). One thing I have learned from my DD is to celebrate the good days and know the bad days will happen. Glad I at least got through 3 races which I wasn’t sure would happen just a week ago. Really appreciate all the encouragement to at least start tomorrow and see how it goes (this group is the best kind of peer pressure), but I really want to get back to being able to go out and enjoy a run (which I haven’t been able to do since mid-November). Considering how I feel after today’s HM (and more than my fair share of anti-inflammatories of multiple flavors), pushing through tomorrow is not the path to get there. Plus I don’t want to risk missing DATW Monday!

Plan on getting out to spectate instead and looking forward to celebrating everyone’s victories Monday. Wishing everyone good sleep, no bus/traffic issues and a great race tomorrow!

Thank you to all the feedback. I just had a wonderful conversation with DD and SIL; incredibly supportive. I am going to give it a go out of C. You are a great group of people! @GuinnessRunner I could probably learn from you! If the ankle feels worse I am going to step off course and call it a day. Next year the marathon is all yours!

Good luck to all in the marathon tomorrow!

@GuinnessRunner

We were trying to provide positive peer pressure just in case it was nerves, but now that you've had a chance to rest and assess, good for you for making the best choice for you. Key thing is we want everyone in the group to have a HAPPY and HEALTHY race weekend. And now you have an excuse for a revenge Dopey trip next year. ;)

Look forward to seeing you amongst the spectators or at DATW!

With me not running, @Erica1016 (my wife) and I will be spectating tomorrow. We may bounce around, but plan to be just outside Epcot (~mile 3.3?) at the beginning. We may move to the TTC at some point, and then we hope to be outside DHS near Skyliner from about 10 a.m. to noon/end. Erica will have a tie dye Mickey shirt on if any runners see us.

Welcome to the DNS group. At least you made it through one more race than me. It's a tough decision, but it sounds like it is the right one for you. Good luck with your recovery!

First, I fully admit I'm an idiot still being at EPCOT.

But, in my defense, Guardians was down during my original lightning lane time, and I don't want to switch to tomorrow and deal with those stairs after the marathon!
I may have said a few choice words on those stairs today.
Everyone needs to start using the stairs at their resorts more 😁😁

I get rooms on the top floor, and use the stairs exclusively (except for when I have luggage at check-in/out) and last year, after my first Dopey/Marathon, which I was definitely under-trained for, I was still able to go up and down stairs with no problem (ask anyone who was at DatW 🤣)

@GuinnessRunner Will miss you on the course tomorrow but sounds like it’s the right decision- the important thing is your long term recovery. Glad to have had the chance to start and finish the race with you today (minus about 12.9 miles in between)

Will look for you out there and look forward to seeing you at DATW!

I do not like the new route into the Magic Kingdom and the congestion from GF to the MK is beyond horrid. It was all walking and no possibility of running even if you wanted to.
Thanks for the people who called out to me today and those that I got to spend time with on the course. It’s always good to see And Run with people image.jpgyou know.
This is flat me for tomorrow.
And while it will be warmer than many prefer tomorrow, I do not see them red flagging the race. It would have to get real ugly hot toward the end for them to do that, IMHO.

I just got out of dinner at California Grill! But I’m hoping my mid-afternoon nap makes up for being out a bit late before tomorrow.

Good luck everyone! Will try my best to make it to the meet-up in the morning!

+1 to the sore ankle group... those steep curved and cambered roads were rough. I had to walk basically all of them and because I was walking and not running I felt like I'd just be in the way if I went to the left side that was a bit flatter. This was my second ever rD half (first was SWRR in 2019) so I had no idea what the course was going to be like in that sense. Definitely wasn't expecting what it ended up being in terms of that and the absolute bottlenecks at several points, but still had fun though!

I will be holding a white sign “today you will finish a marathon”

Someone held up a sign like this towards the end at marathon weekend last year when I did my first marathon and it really hit me in the feels. Thanks for passing along the same confidence to others! ❤️

My Garmin is pretty sure that I’m dead. Here’s its “body battery” assessment.
Same. But mine also buzzed with this message a couple hours ago to express its disappointment in my life choices... 😅

Congrats to everyone who ran this weekend!
