Marathon Weekend 2026

SAFD: So the first race I ever did was the WDW marathon 2004 (no 10k or 1/2 Marathons beforehand just right in at the deep end 🙄) The shirt from that was cotton and over the years wore out with holes in the sleeves, I didn’t wear it to run but was one of my favourite shirt to wear so it eventually got thrown out. I found another one on E-Bay new with tags and got it a couple of weeks ago.

My oldest original race shirt is from WDW Half 2005. I don’t wear it as much as I used to so I can preserve it but it is a technical shirt so bit better wearing. I generally just wear it to Disney now for running there. I have put it on for my run today, heading out soon after the rain passes.

So I’m not sure if the replacement 2004 counts as it’s not the OG I got on the day or if it’s the 2005 🤷‍♂️

SAFD: My oldest race shirts are from the '90s.
My first Peachtree was 1993, which IMHO is still one of the better looking shirts they ever made. I have that shirt, plus the 25th anniversary shirt from 1994, which was such a disappointment (especially for an anniversary year) that it led to public voting from a pool of finalists. I have those, plus several other PTRR shirts from the 90's and some other 5Ks. For one of the shirts, I finally noticed the main sponsor and it was a company I happily worked for until it was bought and ruined by a large corporation.
Fun fact: until recently I still had a 5K shirt from the early 80's because it was and is the only race I've ever won. It was a somewhat small fundraiser race for an elementary school, but I'll take the W.
My rD shirts all get worn with great regularity during warm months, but I don't run in them. For that, I wear the soft weave el cheapo moisture wicking shirts from Walmart.

SAFD: I don't really have any old race shirts. Before Disney World runs, I usually would just toss race shirts from the local races. I have too many t-shirts, so no room for race shirts. So I would say my oldest race shirt right now is the 2020 WDW half marathon shirt.

Now to add a question to this, what do you guys do with all of your rD shirts? I have so many shirts now (probably not as much as some of you). The bin I put them in is starting to overflow. I probably only wear maybe four of them consistently during the fall/winter for runs. I have came close to tossing the ones I don't wear but thought I would hold onto them a little longer.

I have 2 plastic bins of rolled short sleeve race shirts and 2 bins of rolled long sleeve race shirts. I'm hoping that my new job's "decent jeans and t-shirt" dress code might extend to race shirts so I can get some regular use out of them, but I'll have to wait until next month to find that out.

Sometimes I'll try to sell the less wanted ones (I really don't need all six of the Dopey shirts, for example). If that doesn't happen, they'll be the first throwaway layers in winter races. The long sleeve shirts just don't get a lot of use otherwise.
