Marathon Weekend 2025

Finished my long run today-- 15 miles in about 3:20 using 90:30 intervals for most of it (walked up hills-- this run had more elevation gain than the marathon did this year). 18K of it was part of a race that I got last place in (to be fair it was only out of 17 people, but also the math isn't mathing because it was a 3 loop course and I was only passed by a handful of people...). I was out of it afterward and came here wondering why SAFD hasn't been posted yet (because it's Saturday, duh lol). 6.5 tomorrow since I'm doing cumulative fatigue for training and then peak week is done (38.5 miles). I'm feeling proud because I had a hard speed workout earlier this week which included 3 rounds of 12 minutes at 10:30, which I all hit without walking at all.

Right now, my biggest worry is not the weather, but my corral! This will be my first race in 2 years not as Club runDisney. I recently got PoT through the 10K (!!!), but it wasn't early enough for the MW deadline. We'll see what happens. I know the corral technically doesn't matter but I've gotten used to starting earlier and am an anxious person who doesn't do super well waiting around for a long time in crowds at the beginning. CrD was great for multiple of my anxieties but was no longer in the budget this year.

Hi, this is also me. If we’re in the same corral, we can distract each other.

SAFD - First time for:

- Flying down Tuesday morning, giving us some time to go to the parks before jumping into race mode. Plus we're flying down for the first time on Jet Blue (usually go Southwest) so I will be missing my two free checked bags. 😭

- Going to the After Hours party after doing Dopey. We did it once after Princess 2020, but going after 4 days of running + a marathon is going to make it interesting

- For my best friend, it will be running down Main Street for my best friend (hopefully! - she's struggling with pace so fingers crossed she will at least get to the Magic Kingdom)

Mmmm, nothing like the fresh taste of Disney tap water right when you hit mile 24.

I have terrible well water at my house--I actually like the Disney water 😆😆

I did 36 out of 45 miles during my Dopey sim on a 9.5 lap per mile track. It takes a lot of determination to walk into the track, knowing how long it's going to be before you leave.
I did the 10K and half portions of my first ever Princess sim (in 2022) on a 7 lap/mile track, which was also my costume test. I definitely got some looks in my Cinderella sparkle skirt

Same except my DH and kids really aren’t crazy about the parks either. I have us at Disney park Thursday and Sunday. That leaves us 2 days for whatever they want to do and my kids want to go to universal one or two days. I’ll vote for universal on Friday and maybe something close by on Saturday so not walking around a park.
we all like the parks, and have a good spread of ages, but DS7 and DS16 are the big park officionados. DS7 is trying to convince us to go to Japan to go to DisneySea.
Oh yes, the rD shirts are good for some nipple chafing in cold weather. When it does get cold here in Houston, I will wear those shirts on my lunch runs. When I get back in the building after, there is some definite irritation going on. I will only wear the rD shirts on long runs if I have the nipple stickers and Gold Bond applied.
I definitely missed a spot today with the bodyglide. no bueno.

Update: going shorter today bc the wind is ROUGH, will bundle up and tough it out for a long one tomorrow.
I was going to come complain about the heavy mist I had to endure some persistent mist today (although I got to see a spectacular sunrise and rainbow) I'll take my complaints home quietly
5 1/2 miles into my last long dopey run and I’m heading back to my house to get my raincoat because it is misting. And it’s cold. This sucks. and it’s not on the radar, which is always great, but I’m gonna push through
I had my midlayer on (not completely waterproof) for 20 miles before is soaked through to the base layer today. I was great, even wet, until I stopped running and then I was worried I was going to get hypotherminc on my cool down.

I was wearing my warm shirt and pants. But I knew if I didn’t change, I wouldn’t make it for the rest of the 15. I ended up changing my shirt to a thinner long sleeve since I knew I would get warm in the coat. It misted for about 8 miles and then the sun peeked out. But then got windy and cloudy again. Thankfully it wasn’t as cold as some people had to deal with. For those that do these long runs on the treadmill, y'all are awesome!

I was a little defeated when I got back and realized it took me longer to get to 20 miles this run than it did my marathon from March. But my husband did remind me that it was cold and that I wasn’t running this for time. And he’s right. I’ll have all year to work towards a new PR in the fall.

I need to run 2:45 today but it was 28 when my alarm went off, which for some is nothing but for me that's cold and I'm weak and rolled over and went back to bed. I don't mind shorter runs at that temp but the long ones get old with the gear and clothing for that long. Now I have to do it this afternoon after a family BBQ gathering and currently sitting here mad I didn't get up. Blah.

Submitting for Silly Floridians in the Cold entertainment…

My temp was 50º with a Feels Like of 42º (damp + major wind chill) on my 6-miler yesterday: I wore thermal tights, a super thin short sleeve under a thermal half-zip, wool socks, knit gloves, Buff, a Headsweats cap, and ear cover. Couldn't feel my fingers, toes, or face until mile 3. :teeth: (To be fair, I have Raynaud’s, so this isn’t just “typical Floridian”.)

I was able to make new running friends who kept me going from mi 14 to 17, but once they stopped I totally struggled.
The good news is, you'll have HUNDREDS of running friends to keep you going on the course!

We've been having cold and icy weather here too so I've taken my training indoors. I'm training for the half and really couldn't stand the thought of running 13.1 on a treadmill so I went to the local rec center and ran around their indoor track 118 times to equal 13.1 haha. People would come and go and I just kept running.
I do a lot of treadmill miles and have figured out that live sports and/or trash TV makes the miles roll by. A short loop like that is MY nightmare. Good job getting that done!

DS7 is trying to convince us to go to Japan to go to DisneySea.
DisneySea is my FAVORITE park in the world. (As you can see below my avatar, I've been to them all, and several times.) I would 100% take a trip to Japan just for that park!

Damp cold is no joke @PrincessV -- great job getting out there!

By comparison, my weather station this morning here in northern Vermont:

And here's my road (and Jack & Zero hanging in there):

So my 3-hour LR today will definitely be on the treadmill in my relatively toasty basement! Let's call it early heat acclimation training.

EDIT TO UPDATE: My insane ultra-runner neighbor just ran by on the road in his yellow safety vest with hardly any extra layers on. He's such a show off!

Ummmm. I live in MI and that sounds close to what I would wear for a "feels like 42" and I wouldn't have gone out at all if it was damp/wet. I hate the cold so much.

Add me to the list of people planning on treadmilling a long run today. My plan is to shoot for 2 hours, but I honestly have no idea how it'll go since I haven't done a dedicated run since (checks garmin) the 2nd. I'm at about 30 hours of refereeing this month, but I'm going to need to find the balance between reminding my body what structured intervals feel like for a longer run and not wanting to over-do it. I'm completely OK with doing a *lot* of walking for the full if that's what my body needs, so getting there healthy is on the top of my list.

Looks like they've been updating the official event guide as several of the course maps had notes like "Updated 12/20/2024" in the side bar today (probably updating mile markers on the marathon course.)

For anyone wondering about expo passes, "Your Expo Check-in Pass will be needed at the runDisney Health and Fitness Expo to pick up your race bib. Your Expo Check-in Pass will be available to you on Monday, January 6th on your runDisney Account. Bring a printed or digital copy of your Expo Check-In Pass for each event you are participating in and a valid photo I.D. to the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo to pick up your race bib."

As always, this is dependent on your home address as we know that international runners are not able to sign their waivers digitally ahead of time. So if that applies to you and yours isn't in there, don't panic.

Glad to see the official map with water stops matches the usatf certified course now.

Add me to the treadmill gang today. I have to hit a tempo pace which is easier on the treadmill since I can set the speed and not guess. Secondly, my left knee had a weird twinge last night so I need to be careful and pay attention to it. I’m turning 40 in five weeks, and while I was thinking I don’t feel 40, my knee reminded me yes in fact there are times I feel 40 🤪

Sometimes I think maybe I could handle living Up North again, and then I see temps like that and remember… hard pass. :rotfl:

:offtopic: … when I was little, my dad took me on a short Xmas season trip to Mt. Snow. The only thing I really remember is a very, very steep road covered in ice with sooo many cars sliding down it backward! Dad was super impressed with himself as he pulled over to do whatever manual adjustment was needed to put his SUV into 4-wheel-drive and climbed right up that bad boy ice road. :rotfl2: That was probably enough to scare me away from VT winters, though summer in Burlington was delightful.
