Marathon Weekend 2024

Coast to Coast details. Sounds just like it was before, and the 10-miler will count, so it's not just half or longer.
Aw snap that's pretty cool! Looks like a *special* medal if you do MW and then DL half weekend. Interestingly this makes it sound like the DL Half in January will be the *only* rD race in DL in 2024.

Sure but given this it may seem like they want it under an hour. Like I said it was closer to 45-50 minutes this year. They also have changed corralling systems since 2018 as well. We aren't in the days of corrals A through K or whatever it was.
My memory's a little fuzzy on this, but didn't they address this, at least in part, by moving the start time to 5AM, vs. 5:30 in the past?

Yes but even that probably isn't early enough for Disney operations management lol.

They did in 2020, but they also changed the course design in 2020 for the marathon. In 2019, we started and headed straight to MK with a 5:30am start. The exiting of MK was mile 8. In 2020, they changed the course to head through EPCOT first and then towards MK with a 5:00am start. The exiting of MK is now mile 11.25. So they originally gained some time to the opening of MK by moving the start time to 5:00am from 5:30am, but then ate that extra time up by changing the course design and putting MK slightly later in the race. It's a sticking point for moving past the balloon lady start beyond 6am. So they'd have to either change the course back, or move the start earlier (4:30am) to spread much beyond 60 min.

That's the way I read it too. I had assumed/ hoped they'd announce at least one more race for 2024 in DL. This is not making my late 2023 early 2024 runDisney planning any easier!

Special Coast2Coast medal just for 2024 for folks running MW and DLH back to back just ensured MW2024 registration will blow up. Stand by for all the complaints that "I registered for DLH just to get the special medal and got shut out during MW registration!"
But maybe easier to register for shorter distances? 🤷‍♀️

I really don't think it will be that bad.
If you look at the Historical Race Sell-Out Times thread, which goes back to 2017, the 5k and 10k have historically been the fastest distances to sell out. The two exceptions were for 2021 when it was a virtual race (Dopey and Goofy went first) and 2022 when the half marathon edged into the 2nd position. I don't really expect that trend to change because Dopey ties up so many of the 5k & 10k bibs, leaving a lot of competition among the folks just looking to run a shorter distance at Disney.

I am well aware. I have tracked this stuff for years. I don't expect races not to sell out. I think they all will. That said I don't think it will be 2023 demand.

Considering that the website has been down for me for several hours, it’s not a good sign for possible registration issues. Seeing the seven dwarves website has given me PTSD from MW registration.

I hope you are correct. It's kinda fun to speculate but since we really don't know the supply (number of bibs) or demand, we won't get beyond speculation until it actually happens.

Well sure. People didn't expect what happened for registration this past year.

Which is great for people who only want to run the shorter distance, but you have to do the half or full for Coast to Coast. I think I agree that this is going to make MW registration harder. But hopefully we're wrong and everything will be easy and trouble free.

Well for Princess 2023 registration, we did play a game. We all had theories on how fast we did or didn't think things would sell out. So we put it all on the line for glory. @The Expert proved she really is the expert at everything with her 1st place finish.

Game Over

LOL, I finished in last place because I thought it would take longer than 7 days for the HM, Challenge, or Yoga to sell out. They sold out in 185 min, 65 min, and 40 min respectively which was much much faster than 2022.

Although I will say that maybe it's a tad early to start making predictions given registration is still about 3 months away.

Well, I think we all agree that demand is going to remain high, especially with the return of the Coast-to-Coast Challenge. The only real question is supply - how many bibs will Disney sell?
