Marathon Weekend 2021

I'm a virtual Castaway Marathon Prince. I think I'll bust out my Prince Phillip shirt for the virtual Princess half.

Awesome !! I do a lot of miles on the treadmill at home, and until last year and never done a HM (last min decision to do the 2019 WDW HM was my only outdoor one to do date)

Going to have to up my game now if i have a marathon (even if i do it treadmill) in 3 months time !!!!

Decided to sign up for the 5k because I’m a sucker for anything Pluto. Then I threw in the 10k because I don’t hate that Oswald medal and I have his other two so why not. I can start an Oswald medal streak.

I’m really behind on my virtual races though as I still haven’t done my summer ones (Disney series and universal trolls series). I’ve been struggling with anemia since last month so I’m hoping that gets better soon and I’ll have a really fun fall/winter “racing” season.

I know I made a comment about the future of runDisney that ruffled some feathers, but on a positive side, there are many many live races that are happening now across the country. There is even a website for marathons that have not been canceled and I was shocked to see how many are going live. I know we like to focus on the 'big' races, but some of these small races are a ton of fun, too and I recommend y'all taking a look to see what's out there. I had planned to do 4 big races this Fall/Winter - Dayton Air Force, Hartford, Wine and Dine and Dopey - all huge races. I ended up doing a live 50 person 5K in July and a live 200 person 10K in August and I have a 250 person half marathon next week I am very excited about. The races are coming back. And some of the changes to keep people healthier - which is a good thing even in normal times - will make racing even better!! Hang in there, everyone!!!!! :)
Besides runningintheusa and marathonguide, is there another site that lists local races? It seems like many smaller races are not on the bigger lists.

For those who have done virtual marathons: Do you train any differently? I'm thinking of doing the virtual marathon (would be my fifth marathon) I'm thinking I would just convert my last long run (21 miles) to 26.2 since, in part, I don't care or have to worry about time limits.

Now I have to figure out how I'm going to prepare for this one. I ran Dopey the last two years, but this time around I'm just not feeling up to committing to Goofy or Dopey virtually. I've done the Star Wars virtual half as part of training before so I'm not sweating the Princess races since they fall in my Star Wars training cycle anyways.

There’s Find My Marathon. I use this site to compare marathon courses a lot. They do have a calendar, but I haven’t looked too closely at it to see what races are listed.

I think this is the list/site I stumbled on which had all the non canceled marathons across the country in one place but the others posted here look to be pretty accurate, too.

For local races, I have been using RunningintheUSA which is doing a good job updating races that have canceled or gone virtual.

Registered myself for the Half and Princess Half. A January half is pretty much the only thing that keeps me from eating my way through December. And I want a medal with Daisy on it. There are no live races near me yet so virtual is all I’ve got. I might go back in and register the kids for some stuff.

I train for them the same as any other marathon.

For those who've done virtual marathons...what sounds more do-able of these three options (I'm thinking Jan midwest crummy streets.) All of these would be from my doorstep to doorstep for aid stations/bathroom breaks/ & instagram mile marker picture nonsense.
1) 26 (+.2) 1 mile loops
2) 8+ 5k loops
3) 5+ 5 mile loops - this one is really only doable with right street conditions.

And yes I plan on bugging people I know with live updates so that I don't give up.

Definitely option 3. I’ve run 0.9 mile loops for 20 miles before. It’s not a pleasant experience.
Of course, option 1 would be okay if you turn it into one of those “run 1 mile every hour on the hour” challenges.

2 or 3 for sure. I’ve done something between 1-2 for a 20 miler before.

Any idea if the virtual races will move to a date range? They still list a specific day, although I suppose you can run them prior and submit your time on that day.

not likely to have to submit a time - Disney virtual races don't have a way to submit anything. Basically do it when you want to or don't do it - as long as the Mouse gets the $$$ you get the Bling

‘There’s nothing to submit. You pay, they ship the medals. When, or even if, you do the runs is up to you.

Could you do a mix?? Like do a 5 mile and 3 mile loop, then a water stop, then repeat with a 3 mi and 1 mi, water, 5 mile, etc.

I signed up for the Oswald 10k and the Princess Fairy Tale Challenge.

I was hoping to do the virtual Castaway Cay one, but it requires a cruise reservation number. I don't think I'd ever be able to take all the days off work to actually do it, so I thought I'd try the virtual one.
