Marathon Weekend 2017!

Has anyone ever had the roof of their mouth hurt after a full before? I went to eat yesterday and it was unbelievably painful. I knew my legs and feet were going to hurt but I didn't expect that. Thankfully it's not as bad today but it still hurts.

I've never heard of that. After my first finished full in 2011 I remember the day after everything hurt except my head. The only reason I even remember is because I remember clearly that it was easier to point at what didn't hurt and what did.

I really liked the marathon merch this year, but I was very sick on Saturday when I went to pick up my bib and the expo was mobbed so I didn't want to stand in line to buy things. I guess I don't regret it, I needed to recover and conserve energy, but is there anywhere I can snag a shirt now? I used the Parks shopping app and it showed generic run Disney stuff but not the marathon itself.

There's a marathon weekend shirt on the Disney Store website and a banner too. Sometimes they put the I did it shirts on there a couple days after the races. Not sure about anything on property.

I know it was talked about but can someone remind me for challenge runners what the options were in regards to the half? Was it more than the gift card? Thanks in advance.

The only thing I know of is the phone cases at Disney Springs. I don't think there are any shirts and stuff in the parks.

Yes I definitely want a blue marathon shirt like all of the participants! They couldn't hand them out to us that upgraded from the half, but now that I've finished it I want to wear that bad boy proudly!

Not much hurts today, surprisingly. Just an old knee injury from years of cheering and a blister on one toe. Much better than I expected. Probably because it took me 6 AND A HALF hours to finish yesterday. Spent a lot of time on the side of the road stretching and asking volunteers when the bus was coming to take me home. Ha!

I'd be happy to send you the shirt they gave out. I have a men's medium.I'm not a big race shirt collector and it's not like I don't have others. Just PM if it works for you.

I think (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) that in past years, race weekend merch has shown up at ESPN Club and/or Disney Springs (maybe co-op?) after the weekend was over.

Co-op is where the phone cases are.

I know they'll have stuff at the Disney outlet in the next few days. That's off property near Disney Springs though so you would need a car or taxi.

I think it was just the gift card at first but then they added more options to the race program - definitely check there to see what all they had.

I've got a large I'd be happy to part with.

So sad to be missing the DATW but I am flying home as I type. Yesterday was fun. I finished slow as I hobbled the last few miles but I finished. My feet felt so awful yesterday that I had a hard time even getting back to the room! Was out like a light by 7. However, I feel GREAT today with just some pain on the top of my feet. At this time yesterday I was thinking no dopey next year and that I'd stick to one race. Today I am ready to sign on for the next Dopey. Considering how great I feel today I know I can do better!

It was so lovely to meet so many of you who give so generously to these boards. Thank you so much for the advice, comraderie and encouragement.

What a great marathon after such a cold cold morning. Was planning to join the 4:45 Galloway pacing group in H but decided I'd prefer character pics along the way - ended up coming in at 4:56 and lopping off a whopping hour and 20 minutes from my first marathon. And as much as I believe in the Galloway run/walk method, for this marathon I wanted to truly run every step of it (minus the picture/bathroom stops and walking thru the water stops) - mission accomplished.

Best of all - I added gloves and yellow shoes (and black sweatpants) to the Mickey ensemble and ended up getting amazing reactions from spectators all along the way. I'm still tearing up every time I think about how, whenever I was at the end of my endurance and stopping to walk, inevitably a spectator and/or volunteer would holler out "Way to go Mickey - KEEP RUNNING!!!". It really kept me going, especially when the kids watching would see me and point and smile - a series of special Disney memories I won't ever forget.FB_IMG_1483996326516.jpg

Don't we have to contact them first via email starting on the 13th?

I got the impression that we only needed to contact them if we didn't want the gift card and wanted to transfer to another race. Seem to remember something saying challenge participants would get an e-gift card in a week or two.

It was more of generic process choice for anyone who was unable to get to the expo on 1/7. I've copy/pasted below.

For any Guests who are unable to visit the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Saturday, Jan. 8 to choose their option should contact rundisney@disneysports.com. Please include your name, bib number and phone number within the email.

Sitting here in Hollywood Studios and a kid came up to a woman nearby wearing all her Dopey medals. "How did you get all those medals?" She explained everything to him and he asked, "Do you think I could do that some day?" So sweet and the woman with the medals is being so nice to him and his family, explaining Of course you can, you should start with a 5k... :lovestruc Love it!

I also got the impression for Dopey and Goofy runners you only needed to contact it you wanted a different option than the gift card. I guess I need to go back and read the email.
