Marathon Weekend 2017!

Already at Disney and headed to AK tomorrow. First time doing a trip and parks before the races but I am super excited. Got a nice 10k in this morning and as proof of concept for Dopey #4 it was a success. Not sure how much I'll be able to follow along before and during the races but I'm excited for the next couple of weeks.
See you in G next Sunday!

This! Not a Floridian, but my parents live there half the year, and we (well, they) have owned a home there for the past 25 years. Based on even our more limited experience, we bring clothes for every possibility. I'm usually a complete minimalist when it comes to packing, but runDisney events are an exception. In 2015, we went from super warm 80s to freezing the morning of that 5K to great weather the morning of the marathon. This is not the time to save space. And if your kids are running with you, it's DEFINITELY not the time to save space. Turns out the cold DID bother our teenage son dressed head to toe in full Elsa costume for the 5K.

@mateojr, however, was very cozy in his Kristoff costume. :)
Wasn't he supposed to be frozen?

I had a major FL parent fail a few years ago: forecast for our holiday long weekend trip was for warm weather, so didn't bother packing socks for my son. Dontcha know a cold front unexpectedly dropped low enough to nail Orlando the second day. Off to target I went and my kid came home with a bunch more socks than a Floridian kid typically needs, lol! Lesson learned. :)

Apologies if already discussed. During the 1/2, will any of the rides be open in MK which runners could ride during the race before returning to Epcot (e.g., just like in the full the Everest ride in AK is open for runners to ride during the race)?

Many thanks!
Dan

This is hilarious :rotfl2: True visionaries.

Nope. There will be rides "going" but they won't take riders since it's before regular park hours (unless you were in Epcot after 9 and wanted to really veer off-course to hit something in Future World).

Ha! I always forget the socks! If we're still at my parents house when I forget them, we come home with extra socks. If we're already at Disney, we come home with expensive Disney socks. :(

No rides, but the mile 20 spectacular in honor of the 20th anniversary will be amazing !!!!!!!!!

Wow, the weather looks very good -- even great! -- for next week. And if it somehow changes and we end up with bad weather, everyone can blame me for getting too optimistic too soon. But... I've run all 10 of my marathons in warm conditions, and I want to have a cool race just one time -- and I'm hoping Mickey #24 (and Mickey #6 for me) is the race! I'm just ignoring the 'possibility of showers' detail for Sunday morning.

Interesting to see how Accuweather and The Weather Channel differ slightly on their forecasts. I didn't include the Weather Underground and Intellicast forecasts because they have the same parent company as TWC, and their forecasts match TWC exactly.

Question to all of you Dis-ers (apologies if asked in some form):
DD and I are checking out of our hotel on Sunday morning but want to cheer on those of our friends doing the Marathon at BW. Will we be able to park at one of those parking lots? If not, any ideas where we can park?
We can always do buses so that is an option but just wanting to get closer if possible.
Thanks so much-ya'll are the best!

They've been stricter lately about parking so unless you have an ADR at BW than you probably won't be able to park there. Buses are probably your best option.

You could try Swan/Dolphin parking, they charge for parking there so would just have to pay there.

They use to have a lot for visiting the boardwalk that was across the street from the BW guest parking, is that not available anymore?

I seriously dislike bananas, unless they are frozen and covered in chocolate and rainbow sprinkles. But the WDW marathon bananas are the best ever. I was so excited to see those. I make myself eat a banana during long runs so that I'm ready for the WDW bananas. I tried all sorts of gels, blocks and beans long ago and learned that the banana is way better for me.

As for carrying stuff, I carry absolutely nothing. No gels, no phone, no music. I experimented with different gadgets, but in the end, decided I can't have anything around my waist, in my hand or in pockets. I always check course support before registering for a race to be sure they will have what I need at the necessary intervals. I feel like Disney has more than enough aid stations. I'm just super happy running without stuff!

What you are describing is my nightmare. Lol.

Great job on the run!!Since I've been living near the parks and visiting them frequently I've seen pretty much every Run Disney race shirt being worn by people in the parks multiple times, some dozens and dozens of times, the one exception being the 2015 Wine and Dine half,do people who ran that race just feel like the race didn't happen since it was only like 6.7 miles and thus it makes them feel like something's wrong with wearing the shirt or having earned the medal?I know I was at the parks pretty much every day of Wine and Dine marathon weekend this year even though I didn't run it and I think I only saw the 2015 shirt worn once or twice by the thousands of runners at the parks,I did that race in 2015 and I wear that shirt all the time,I think I wore it yesterday!!Let me tell you it may have only been 6.7 miles but the weather that day made the race a pretty tough one, remember it hit like 90 degrees that day,if you were out during the day that heat zapped you and took a lot out of you. Then the whole lightning delay and just waiting around was harsh, not knowing if you're even going to run it after all the anticipation was stressful.I ran it with some friends who don't run races frequently and they struggled pretty bad probably due to the heat that day and in all honesty I was very glad for them the race was shortened. It wasn't a half but it wasn't an easy race either!!

It is actually one of my more memorable races. I think those who had it as their first half were rightfully more dismayed with it. Some of us just had fun with it after. Shout out to the two girls proudly showing off the medal for a week after shouting to other runners "YEAH HALF OF A HALF!!!"
