btw, I still think the Half Marathon will be some kind of spinner or something...there is a distinct line between the two X's which makes me think the medal splits there. (maybe). Intuitively I don't think it would be easy for that design to twist so I'm probably wrong, but still hoping it is something unique and cool.

I blew the image up as best I could on my Mac and it doesn't look like it's a spinner or folds or does anything but we don't have a good clean image of it.

sadly I only own one....the 2017 actually is hard to figure out. At first I thought it was Mickey the Sorcerer or something...couldn't make out Dopey in it.

You're right that they're not identical but they look very similar,look at the 2015 one,that one is as close as it gets,they basically just moved the Dopey name from the bottom of the medal to the top and they both even have the circle patterns on the ribbon.I felt the same about the full medals from 2014-2016,different color ribbons but just some slight tinkering with the medal.

well, they are similar because it is Dopey - you can't change his face. But other than the first two years, the last one is not in any way the same. The new one looks almost nothing like the Dopey I know. I'm hoping a better picture comes out at some point that clears it up for me, but as of right now I would never have guessed that was Dopey if I didn't know about the medal.

Yeah, it actually looks more like Jar Jar Binks...

I think they might have gone away from spinners after the problems they were having with them.

Tink this year was a spinner, and the ears on Dumbo this year move up and down, so they've clearly not gone away from motion aspects.

I blew the image up as best I could on my Mac and it doesn't look like it's a spinner or folds or does anything but we don't have a good clean image of it.

My guess:

Similar to how Dumbo's ears move up and down on this year's DDD medal ... what if the running Donald moves up and down a track through the Xs, similar to those number-slide games you used to get in goodie bags at a party when you were a kid.

The Donald medal... eeeehhhhhh. Not what I was hoping for.

I LOVE the marathon medal, though. I'd try to convince my wife to upgrade to Goofy, if it weren't for the crazy fees runDisney and Active tack on for changing your registration. It's like "Geez, Disney! I WANT to give you lots more money! Why you gotta make it hurt even more???"

Did a little googling that brought me back to our fair message board...the marathon medal reminds me of the medals from the mid-90s in this post: http://www.disboards.com/threads/official-2015-disney-marathon-thread.3223771/page-63#post-52390000

Sometimes they do a blog post on the meaning/inspiration behind the medal designs. I hope they do one for these medals...

Not really a fan of the retro look of the full....it looks exactly like the full marathon medal from disneyland....yes, there was a FULL marathon at disneyland

The retro feel is exactly why I LIKE the marathon medal the best out of all of them...different strokes for different folks.

I don't care for it as much either, but not so much that it would make me feel better about eating that kind of registration fee.

True.. But when ill be 38 weeks preg that week and the whole no deferral thing not much choice.. If it was a awesome medal id think about starting dead last and walk slow till the sag wagon pickup..

In looking at it I think Goofy may be the only one that's a spinner this year. I wish Donald was something special. Seems like most of them are pretty different from last year with the exception of Dopey. You can change the character slightly but it's still a circle medal with a character in it with the space around him cut out. I'm hoping next years medals are something really special.

I like the marathon medal a lot. Sort of a throwback to the older marathon medals.

Before I saw the Marathon medal up close I thought it was the clock face and then the 10k & Goofy were gears and then the half was the numbers on the clock. Maybe I am putting too much thought into it LOL

So I have a story...

I sent a joking text to my wife saying, "Is it too late to upgrade to the Goofy? I LOVE that marathon medal..."
SECONDS later, she calls me and says, "I thought we should have done the Goofy all along. I don't know why you just wanted to do the Half."

Fast forward about an hour later, we're registered for the Goofy, flights have been changed (Thanks, Southwest!), dining reservations have been shifted, and an extra night has been waitlisted for DVC.

All of which means that I guess we're paying the crazy change fee.

- Our 4th Donald
- Our 2nd MIckey
- Our 1st Goofy

It got a little stressful, because the Goofy Challenge kept disappearing from the list! I just checked again, and it looks like it may be sold out.

Okay so the medals are out which got me thinking about race shirts and trying to predict which race will get what color,I thought about it for like 30 seconds and realized that race shirts have gotten a bit stale and predictable.The medals for the most part have a fresh new look and I would like to see RunDisney and Champion step up and give us some new unique designs and colors for the shirts,give us some different shades of colors,or how about just a white one with a nice design,the shirts are very high quality but the colors and designs need to step up.
