Marathon Weekend 2017!

Hi! I signed up for my first half in January. I am signed up for the 5K and hope to sign up for the 10K through a group...both are in November.
I am not a runner...yet. Can anyone recommend a really helpful app for beginners? I want to follow Jeff Galloway's training methods but the apps do not get good reviews. Would love some advice from tried and true
My husband uses RunKeeper - it's free and it allows you to put in your own run/walk intervals. And you can listen to music while you use it. :)

How has this never occurred to me!! We've always bypassed Everest because my DH doesn't think he could handle the backwards portion, but ToT and TT would be great. We are slow, so will they let runners through the FP line (like they do at Everest) or do you have to try and figure out a time to book and FP+ it?

I have no idea. I've never tried it because I haven't wanted to make that much of a detour. If I do it in 2017, I'll probably set up a FP just to be safe. The best option would seem to be a FP+ for ToT and then go into the singles line for RnR. I assume the people in the singles line would be willing to let someone with a race bib that far off course zip through the line.

Nevermind. I'm a big ole dummy.

Does anyone remember when the dates for the Marathon Weekend were released? Was it in January (before?) or after? Cheers.

My mom uses a gymboss Interval timer which is really easy to use and loud so the beep beeps to run or walk are easy to hear, not an app, but easy to use for the Galloway method, then you could use any app like MapMyRun or Runkeeper to track distance. I don't recommend Nike's free app, it really got wonky on me.

This is a great idea, as the number one complaint I have with my Garmin is that I can never hear the "beeps", Gymboss is so light,I wouldn't mind wearing both.

For all of you that run with your phones, can you recommend a "comfy" arm band or other carrying device (I can not run with anything in my hands). I have a newish Samsung.

I'm a fan of ArmPocket. It comes in a variety of sizes and mine is even big enough to hold my iPhone 6S in a LifeProof case and still has room for keys, money, and gel packets if needed.

What Garmin do you use? I've used the Garmin 220 and 235 and they supplement the "beep" with a vibration that makes it more noticeable. For phone carrying, I got tired of the arm bands pretty quickly and switched to running belts. I use the Amphipod microstretch belts (they've got a couple of sizes) for carrying my phone during runs and races. The capacity is pretty impressive, as I can fit my iPhone 6S+ into them with no problems.

The dates are usually published in the current year's marathon guide, for example the 2017 dates were listed on the back of this year's 2016 guide. I received an e-mail with the 2016 guide on 12/10/15, so based on that you can expect the 2018 dates [and future marathon weekend dates] to be "published" around the same time this year. Unofficially, one can extrapolate that the 2018 marathon weekend dates will be 1/3/18 - 1/7/18.

My husband also has an ArmPocket and likes it.

Okay! No luck with the points, so I'm looking at rack rates! I'm running three races, hoping for minimal park time. Help me narrow down my choice:

1 - Poly standard view. Pro: easiest for family to see me, on monorail so easy access to other stuff during the day. Con: price! Also, I have a vendetta since they took down the water feature in the lobby.
2 - CS Junior suite king. Pro: "living" area for downtime, two bathrooms so I could get ready for the race without waking anyone up! Con - if these aren't close to the lobby I'll be doing a TON of walking... also long bus rides.
3 - POFQ standard view. Pro: price, boat to DS, short morning bus ride for races. Con: we stayed at POR last year and I think I want to try somewhere else.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will have to check out the Gymboss...sounds perfect! I just bought a "flipbelt" I am going to try that instead of the armband.

Thanks you! I like that you can listen to music....I will have to give Runkeeper a try!

Does anyone have a copy of the 2016 corral breakdown sheets for marathon weekend? Not sure if I'm just losing it but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Trying to speculate for corral placement but I'm only seeing 2015 and later.

Here's the full. Let me know if you want the half.
