Marathon Weekend 2017!

Hubs and I are registered for the half!!! All I have ever wanted EVER is to run the Donald Half and get that Donald Medal!!! We were registered to run it the year it snowed at the start but both got struck down by the swine flu four days before the race. We were in no condition to run 100 yards let alone 13.1 miles! Since then we have only ever been able to get away for the Wine and Dine half. We did the Princess this year. And now, FINALLY FINALLY I will get my Donald medal on the 20th anniversary of the race. I'm so thrilled I can't stand it!!! Totally worth the $$$. He's my duck. I'm so excited!!

Well... huh. PSA: I strongly suggest NOT registering for races while run-down from illness and a race weekend. That was me last week, when I decided - literally at the last minute - to just do the 10K and half. And regretted it about 10 minutes later lol! Feeling much better today and upgraded to Goofy + 10K... no regrets, despite incurring the extra transfer fee :)

However, in case anyone else needs to do a transfer, the link is currently going to the 2016 form instead of 2017. I've got emails in to rD to get a 2017 form, but if anyone happens to find it first, please let me know!

I really, really thought about doing Goofy + 10K. I really like the 10K course a lot...somehow I restrained myself, but I have a feeling I'll be jealous of all of those Minnie medals! :)

@Ariel484 I keep waiting to feel like I'm missing out by not adding a measly 5K and doing Dopey... but nope: that feeling is totally absent! I have no idea why, but 10K + Goofy feels right this time :) In general I'm kind of over the 10Ks, but I've had sooo much fun with friends doing the Jan 10K the last two years, I couldn't resist!

I could have sworn a few weeks again i got an email about RunDisney shirts in training! I can't find it and it's nowhere on their website. Can anyone help?

Ok, now that we're signed up for our first 5K I'm wondering - if we maintain the required 16 minute pace, will we have any time for photos with characters?

I'm in the same boat - I too don't feel like I'm missing out by not doing Dopey this year. It's just not appealing to me this time for whatever reason. :confused3

When they say a 16:00/mile pace, they include everything - bathroom breaks, character stops, etc. So if you went at exactly a 16:00/mile pace, and stopped for photos in addition to that, you run the risk of being swept.

Having said that, the 16:00/mile sweep clock begins when the last runner crosses the starting line, so if you're in front of that last runner at all, you have a built-in cushion. And they are more lenient with sweeping during the 5Ks (you'll see people finishing with 20:00/mile pace sometimes). But they will close the character lines eventually and they DO need the course cleared at some point to open the park...

It's difficult to say. Depending what corral you start in and what the lines are like, you could possibly have time for character photos. If you are at the 16 minute pace and start from the last corral it may not be possible to stay ahead of the balloon ladies if the lines are very long. It's more about getting the course cleared and cleaned up for Disney than it is a strict adherence to time limits, so just be aware of your surroundings and you should have a feel for whether you have time for a character stop or not.

Managed to get registered for the 10K before baby woke up, and got DS3 registered for the 200m dash. Debated the half, but then baby woke up and I decided that was a sign to wait for the Princess Half. Excited to be registered for the 10K though!

Thanks, y'all! We have 254 days now to work on a faster time so we can get good photos too!

Told boyfriend I'd have a beer for him around mile 24. However there was the caveat I might be taste testing it while waiting to make sure it is still in fact a beer... :rolleyes1... He better run fast if he wants it..

Let's not forget those delicious pretzels in Germany! My goal is to have a beer in left hand, pretzel in right hand, and somehow do a shot of tequila in Mexico before crossing the finish line. This is going to be a fun race!

If there was a race where when you finished instead of getting a medal you got jumped by 100 puppies all kissing you on the face, I would run that race every. single. time.
Before my dog passed last year, he used to love when I came back from a run. He would clean my legs and face of all the salt.

So, I'm in for the half!! And once again, thanks to everyone on this thread for all of your help- :disrocks:

Is anyone surprised that Dopey hasn't sold out yet? How long does it usually stay open?
POT is required if you are planning on doing half in 2 hours 45 minutes or less-does that mean if you plan on taking longer and you put that time-how are they figuring corrals for us back of the packers? I'm thinking of still submitting POT, thoughts?

Not surprised - lots of people (myself included) are holding out for 2018.

I'd put in any time you have.

I'm surprised about Dopey considering how quickly it's gone since it started. But with the price tag and the addition of new races the past couple years, other people may be utilizing our strategy of shifting the focus to anniversary weekends, which will be next year for Dopey/10k/Marathon...

ETA: I'd submit any time you have which might keep you out of the very last corral.
