Marathon Weekend 2017!

Good luck with IMFL. I'm hoping to be able to make next year's IMFL my #3 IM. My stint with prostate cancer is over and the "T" shots I am now getting will hopefully bring me to some degree of normal providing they don't do more harm than good. I will of course have a TUE in hand.

Too bad I can't stop for a McFlurry during an IM, that would be so cool. :)

Maybe someone could hand you one along the way? :)

Hope your recovery continues to go well.

McFlurry John

Here's sending you best wishes for a continued great recovery. I always enjoy hearing about your McFlurry stops!!

Hand off would constitute a DQ but if I was able to make it last in the Special Needs Bag, bike or run, THAT would be cool!!!! BTW, the new bike route that they have now will be soooo much better than the older one.

Saw my podiatrist yesterday. Bone healing, but not totally healed yet. He told me that I can start light work on our elliptical next week, and I can now walk without the boot. No running until March. :guilty:

I am in for the Dopey in 2017 since I have my deferral, but having to build up my mileage from scratch is going to take some patience. Still don't know if it will be a solo trip or if my wife will be joining me - she didn't like WDW in the cold this year.

Heed what doc says and ease your way back. Slow progress is better than no progress and too often people rush back into things resulting in a re-injury.

Count me in as *thinking* about Dopey in '17. I had actually thought I was going to do Dopey in '18 because I wanted most of this year and next to really build up a super strong base (esp considering I just started running last April) so that the high miles of a training plan wouldn't be so hard on my body. Plus, I turn 40 in 2018 and thought how cool would it be to say I ran my first marathon at 40. Well, technically I'll still be 39 that weekend, but whatevs. LOL

So I read many mention Hal's plan vs Galloway. Galloway style training is why I totally can run today. Why I didn't go crazy when learning to run for endurance. But being a newbie I too was worried if Galloway's Dopey plan was really enough training. I mean, Hal's plan? Holy Cow Batman: 13 miles THE FIRST LONG RUN DAY. I get that Dopey ain't for the faint of heart. But my biggest problem with training as a new runner to build the base to run W&D/Princess/Tink this season was I got burned out by W&D. After a while, it wasn't fun anymore. I took a break and am back full swing, but at one point I dreaded lacing up my shoes. I don't have any crazy time goals for the full- I just want to finish still putting one foot in front of the other.

Since I'm DVC, I kind of have to make up my mind in the next 3-4 weeks because I need to book a room at BLT. I could always cancel later, but Marathon weekend is like Christmas for DVC. If you don't jump in early- you're you know what out of luck.

For those who are pretty sure it'll be Dopey in '17 for them- will you do any other races that year? I kind of want more medals so maybe I'll do another challenge later that year on the opposite coast. Holy Bling Batman. That'd be a lot of medals.

Speaking of, when you do Dopey, you get a medal for each race and a Dopey, but do you also get the Goofy medal since Dopey includes a Goofy?

100% THIS!

I can't tell you how many of my runner patients have spent more time in my chair because initially they broke bones in their foot/ankle and then when the time came to actually start putting a little weight on it; didn't heed my warnings and ended up laid up again. Some even broke the hardware I put in because they were going that balls to the wall right after being given the green light.

BABY STEPS is totally the name of the game and the key to recovery. Slow progression is still progression.

I have several races planned this year and will probably do more next year after Dopey. Nothing Disney though. The Dopey Challenge does include the medal and shirt for Goofy. It's all about the bling.

Oh, don't worry - it will be right after I tell you about my marathon, but before I start talking about my vegan diet!!! :D
I can't help myself. I'm a vegan runner, and it's not my fault that it comes up all the time! Like right now, I could have let it go, but the compulsion to come out is too strong!

So, during the marathon I was Eggplant from Kitchen Kabaret (old show from Epcot) and the back of my shirt said "Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit", well a guy passed me and asks if I'm "Vegan or Vegetarian." I just thought it was funny he asked (since it was for the song from the show), but I guess I am vegetarian so it was appropriate, he was vegan he said. So, yep it does come up all the time and randomly too, just funny I thought.

Haha, I imagine his tone implied you were one or the other, and "neither" didn't even occur to him. Love it! He probably only asked for the chance to tell you he was vegan. :rolleyes1

The original food show was good. And since you said

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

And that's exactly what our teen boys say! :)
Seriously, before my WDW 10K last year I rad never run an event before. I had walked plenty of 5Ks locally but never ran an actual event. After that 10K i was hooked and it has only continued with my half this year and hopefully more next year.

Hello, my name is Lynn and I'm a runDisney addict! :-)

I'm doing the Glass Slipper Challenge plus 5K in Feb and the Dark Side Challenge in April this year. (the two halves are part of this year's goal of one half every month of 2016)

I'm planning to jump in and do my first marathon in 2017.

Pretty sure I have my DH convinced to let me do the Kessel Run in 2018. I must have that Millenium Falcon bling. :-)
