Marathon Weekend 2017!

I guess by the time world showcase shows up it would be ok, but I tell you what, when we entered DHS and the little mini candy bars were given out I grabbed one or two.. I ate one, and just about regretted it.. My body was NOT expecting that taste / ingredient combo lol.. Was almost a bad, bad thing.. Once in WS though I think the adrenaline will be going enough that I would survive a beer / drink / pretzel lol..

Is the Race Retreat transferable? My sister accidentally purchased it when she registered for Goofy on her phone. She contacted RunDisney immediately after she noticed her mistake (maybe a few seconds after she hit apply payment) and whoever she spoke to said the money would be refunded in a couple of weeks. Now someone at RD is saying they will not reimburse her the money for it.
My question is is the Race Retreat transferable if she can't get her money back and someone else happens to be interested in buying it from her? Would she get a bracelet for the retreat or is it something special on the bib that allows her in to the retreat area?

Its been a wristband as far as ive known so yes transferable

They didn't have gummies at DHS when I passed this year (not sure they had them at all) and I never take the little chocolates. There is almost nothing less appetizing to me than a warm, greasy, melty chocolate miniature after 23 miles of running.

Any idea cavepig how 'current' the text alerts are? I mean, are they say a minute after the runner passes the 5K / 5M marker? or are they sent out only every 15 minutes? . Thank you for this.

At the 10k mat for the Darkside half my text was about 10 mins late. All of the other mats came through right away, so I was worried it didn't register. I did cross it with a lot of people so I think that was the problem.

I was just looking at the travel agents for rundisney trying to get hotel prices and noticed that a lot of them were sold out of Goofy. I wonder if that will be the next thing to sell out or if they had less of those than the other races?

Wow, I never thought about it before, but I guess the parks will be open when we are doing the full? All the halfs I have done the parks have still been closed. So if we have family & friends cheering us on at the full, I guess they can be in Epcot and then come and meet us at the finish. Any tips on a good place for them to watch us? I am guessing around the World Showcase.

It's a total crap shoot in the parks, but my sister has said she's had luck near the pin trading station in Epcot, which is right near the very end of the race. I've found as a runner though that Hollywood Studios is the most fun to run though. People seem actually excited (some irritated to be sure) to see you running by and the enthusiasm is pretty helpful at that late stage of the race. So if anyone knows of a good Hollywood Studios spot I'd recommend there.

Texts have been current for me as well, except for when I spectated the Princess half in 2014. They were terrible - came in hours later, if I remember correctly.

As I remember...
5K - no text tracking, even for Dopey runners (would make sense for most because there aren't timing chips in the bibs, except for Dopey runners - but I don't remember getting a text for that race)
10K - 5K and finish
Half Marathon - 5K, 10K, 15K and finish
Marathon - 5 miles, 10 miles, halfway, 20 miles and finish

So 5K intervals for the 1/2 but 5M intervals for the full? Thanks for the clarity!

Oh boy- I had a similar situation with a standard pretzel in January with the full. Some very kind person was handing them out pretty far into the race and my brain said 'SALT EAT IT... EAT IT NOW' and my mouth said 'no way... this is too try'. I spit it out and it probably looked like I was throwing up because I panicked. Sorry to everyone behind me LOL

That's what the beer is for...to wash it down :drinking1

The gummies were either in 2014 or 2015,the other years they had the Hersheys miniatures and this year I think they had Dove chocolates. For whatever reason I usually prefer gummy candy to chocolates but at that point in the marathon I was all over the chocolates and the year they had the gummy fruit snacks they barely had any appeal, probably from over consumption of Gu chews I brought with me on the race. One thing where I have changed in the last year or two is I am totally off gels, its getting rare to see races that give out chews instead of gels on the course.

One of the TAs I've purchased from got ZERO Goofy bibs. Crazy?

It was Dove Promises this year and they were cold. One kid gave me a handful and they were delicious.

That is crazy, it seems to me they are trying to make it harder for TAs to sell their bibs. The one we used for Princess told me at the time Disney didn't like when they gave bibs back so they would eventually drop all the requirements for hotel just to get the bibs sold. It sounded like if they did they might not get as many bibs the next race. Now Disney says they must sell hotel and tickets with their bibs, it seems like a set up to me. But it might allow more people to get their bibs directly through Disney and save some money.

I sort of assumed there weren't as many Goofy bibs available, period, since it hasn't sold well over the past few years.

I generally like chocolate (as most people do) and I'm glad they were cold (I didn't have any and made a poor assumption after seeing melted miniatures on the ground in past years), chocolate just holds no appeal to me at that point in time. I'm sure for most people they were a nice change of pace from bananas, gels and gummies.

Get Sports is not selling WDW Marathon Weekend AT ALL ... the email they claimed was they made a "business decision" to not offer it.

So, yeah. I think TAs may be getting squeezed out of WDW events because of the restrictions.
