Marathon Weekend 2016

I got my BQ today! 3:11:28 in the SA Marathon. The last 6 miles was an absolute grind as the course goes from being relatively flat to hillier with little fan support on that stretch of course. I think the Boston cut off last year was 2 minutes 28 seconds so I'm hoping my time will hold. For Disney I'd like to hit 3:10:00 which was my goal today, but ran out of gas at the end.

I hope everyone's training runs went well yesterday and/or today and remember, keep on trucking!

Not sure if anyone else saw this, but it looks like the marathon bib numbers are up.

I only saw 10K bibs listed, but I'm a technical moron so I might be missing something.

Make sure you do the drop-downs correctly @RunDisneyDad (congrats on the BQ!! :yay:) @camaker

@bellanotte10 :sad1: :hug:

It's weird. I only get the 10K option going through the link. Tried iPad and both Safari and Chrome on MacBook. Nothing. Guess I'll be waiting a little longer.

In better news, I was able to get 7 miles in today with a 0:30/2:00 run/walk with no hamstring issues! So at least I can get back to training, even if it's a bit late...

Congrats! That's a huge accomplishment.

Estimating I'll be starting in the second to last corral. Feeling very nervous, but I'll power through it!

I'm only seeing the 10K and cant choose anything else from the menu. :(

Oops! Posted before reading the other replies. Im glad it's not just me. ;)

Looks like I know where you'll be on New Year's Eve now!
Still going to Epcot - but I may need to sneak out to watch some of the game if we play at 4:00. I will not watch the game if it is the 8:30 game. I love Alabama, but I love my family more.

Why is that? Definite newbie question!

Also I was reading a book where some said the arms take you up Gil's, but I couldn't understand her explain action of how- she said it was like punching the air totally didn't follow unless she meant like and undercut. Would someone mind explaining?!

Thanks! As always :)
You should use your arms to help power your run, especially up hills or when you feel tired. Just focusing on the use of your arms like pistons helps physically and mentally. You don't change the arm swing - just focus on it a bit more. Your entire body becomes an engine, pistons pumping with every stride.

That said, even if you don't use your arms for power, they are swinging with every stride. Over the course of a longer run you begin to build up tension in you shoulders, neck and upper back. This can be even more problematic if you lean forward late in the run as you tire. To remedy all of that, you do some strength training. Prepare your arms, neck and back for the work, just as you prepare your legs.
