Marathon Weekend 2016

Thank you guys so much. I guess I will wait to see what corral he's in. I think the pace he entered was 2:15 min half. I'll have to see what his speed is in December :)

http://www.usatf.org/events/courses/search/
That's the official USATF certified course search. I usually search for either "Disney" or use Lake Buena Vista, FL as city & state (or Anaheim, CA for DL races)
They also have some expired courses and old races that are fun to look at if you're bored (and/or weird like me)

Thanks for posting that link. I typed in my hometown and neighboring towns and its fun to use some of the race maps as guidelines for maybe new routes to run on the weekends "for fun"/training. There's at least 4 routes I can even walk to quickly from my house (even if they are not at the start, they are in the middle of the cours.) I'm going to book mark this site!

I tried searching to see if I could find any course maps for Avengers (yet), but I only see last year's, and nothing for the new 10k. Any tips? Also, pretty funny that they have Avenger's spelled incorrectly for last year's course (Aevngers). :lmao:

Hi, I just found out that I will need to bring my kids with me to cheer my husband on for the half. I know buses start running again at 7 and I'm trying to figure out where we should go to spectate. He runs about a 9 minute mile. I don't know what corral that would put that in or his start time but I think that he couldn't be done before 8. Can we spectate from Epcot without a park ticket? Thanks for the help. I'm really stressing all of this...

If your husband runs a little more than a 9:00/mile, he'll probably be running in corral D, E, or F. I ran the half in 2014 at a 9:09 pace and it came in just under 2:00. I started in corral E around 5:55 and finished just before 8:00. His corral placement could be different based on the number of entries and their times. But E or F is probably a good starting point. For the half and full, corrals are usually released every 3-5 minutes vs. the 10 minute breaks for the 5K and 10K. Thus if he was in corral E and they were released every 5 minutes, he'd be starting at 5:55.

I hope this info helps and not stress you out any further. :)

Thanks derekleigh ! That really helps. He's recently lost some training time and gotten a bit slower, so I guess I'll see how he's doing closer tot the run and make a game day decision. Do you think it would take about an hour to get from POR to the finish line?

Two questions (one related to rundisney, one not):

1) What 5k corrals do you think correspond to 9:30-10:00 pace & 10:00-10:30 pace? (me and my father-in-law) Just trying to guess at our starting times.

2) Anyone have experience with trail runs after rain? I'm doing a trail run on Sunday (farm land) and it rained a lot today and may rain again tomorrow morning. Any "running in mud" strategies. I'm scared to get my pretty white Brooks ghosts all messy...especially since I want to PR in them during a 5k back on the streets the next weekend. Should I go with my old pair of running shoes?...I plan to go very easy to the point of even walking if it is too gross out. Thanks for any suggestions.

I do most of my running on trails and have learned that even a few days after rain there still can be mud here and there. All it takes is one wrong step to wreck your shoes. And continuing the run with mud on the bottom isn't fun. I'd go with the old pair and save the new ones for the PR race. The farm run sounds fun, enjoy!

I've never stayed on-site, so that might be better suited for someone else. There is runner tracking available for phones and social media channels as a way to keep up-to-date with your runner.

........
I guess I should also share with all these issues and how aggravated I felt at the finish line I beat my time in this race last year by 3 minutes so I really shouldn't be complaining about anything. That's some great improvement for less then stellar conditions.

Popins Pal, I'm from MA also. This race was absolutely brutal!! That you managed to finish 3 minutes faster is impressive, my time was down... Or up?.... By 5 minutes from last year and I know lots of people who had bad experiences.
I granulations on your improvement!! Hope you are doing better. Throwing in my 2 cents for A&d ointment for the chafing!

@roxymama I don't think they take POT into consideration for the 5k; you can't even submit a POT for a 5k, unless you have already done so as part of Dopey. I had heard once that they go by how early you registered, but I'm not sure if that's true.

Oh ok. When I registered they had me submit my estimate with different ranges to click, which is where I chose what is listed above. I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens.

I think we registered very very early thanks to this group listing the backdoor link, was done before 12:05 if not sooner. I'm crossing my finger for an early one because I like not having to wait an hour to run.

For the princess 5k I think at registration we just put our expected pace in. I was running with my non runner cousin and just put in 35 min for both of us, we were in B

Ok, thanks for letting me know how Princess 5k went. I am hoping for an earlier corral not because I care about how fast I am, but because it means more time after the race to change and eat and have fun in the parks.

I put a Chef Mickey at 8:15 ADR in for after the race (monorail there to eat all sweaty post race and then change at our hotel.) In my head I was calculating as 6am start not thinking the corrals had so much time between them. I was thinking worst case we would be done at 7:30? Should I be pushing my ADR back? We aren't planning on a lot of character stops...maybe just an Epcot ball photo. We normally both run regular 5ks in the 29-32 min range...but I realize disney has more congestion and stops.

Edited to say that I guess I can wait to see what corral we are in before cancelling or keeping our ADR...we should know before the Expo our Bib # right?

Yes and no. Ha. You can get your bib# a few weeks before the race by looking at your waiver. But for the DLH, they never posted the corrals for the 5k, just for Dopey and the Half ... and maybe the 10k. I don't recall about the 10k.

At Princess, I was back at my hotel around 8:30.
Things to know - Princess started at 6:15 (aka 15 minutes later), I was in the last corral (but at the beginning of the corral), and I made every single stop (race took me about 1:11).
I'd say that with minimal stops, you could do it in 45 minutes (maybe even a little less). So even if you don't start until 6:30, you'll be done before 7:30.

You'll get your bib number, but I don't think they release the corrals. You can make a guess based on your bib number and approximately how many participants there are, but I wouldn't count on a guess being anywhere near accurate.

Personally, I enjoy the after race festivities. They still have the dj and characters until everyone has finished. It is a fun vibe. So I would not want to rush to breakfast (unless you have another race olanned that weekend and can hang out after that one). The races are expensive, so I say take advantage of the perks!

I believe for the 5k corral placement is based on the estimated finish time you selected at registration but I am not 100% on that

Today was my next to last opportunity to optimize my PoT for Marathon Week. Weather could not have been nicer for the race in Raleigh today. Mid-60s and a course through largely shaded green ways.

My goal has been to post a sub-2 hour half and I was able run it in under 1:56, 7 minutes better than my PR! Now I can relax and enjoy the course next weekend.

Congrats!!!! That's an awesome time.
