Marathon Weekend 2016

I've been having issues with the TX heat as well during training runs lately. I prefer to run in the afternoon/early evening after work but it was 97 during yesterday's run at 6 pm. I'm looking forward to Sept/Oct forward so I can get long runs in at times other than 6 am!

I don't believe the race has to be chip-timed. Disney's website says this:

Proof of time must be provided from a certified race reflecting results after January 1, 2014 and must be one of the below listed distances.

I don't think "certified" even means "USATF-certified". I think it just means a real race with published results, not a self-timed run.

Sorry, then things must have changed (hey, maybe DH helped institute the change!). All I know is that when DH tried to submit his proof, they wouldn't accept the signed letter from the race officials and a copy of the newspaper-published list of times in 2011, saying "We must have proof from a CHIPPED race." Glad to hear things may have changed.

Some names look familiar from last year's ToT thread, like PrincessV, who I understand will be running her first marathon at WDW. :cheer2::cheer2:
:wave2: Hi again!!!

How do you deal with the heat? For a PR give me a cold run any day but in the heat - hot summer heat? I would struggle big time, but then I am from cold weather of Michigan. If you are from hot weather I am sure it will just be another race. Good luck!
Floridian of 20+ years here: it so depends on the person, too - I've come dangerously close to heat stroke a few times earlier in life, which leaves me far more susceptible to heat-related illness now. Yeah, I still run all summer, but I have to be very, very careful about it; no way could I attempt to PR!

Ran 10 miles in the heat/humidity today. It wasn't a bad run, but it certainly wasn't the kind of run that I experienced on Sunday. I really need to remember to get out the door earlier when I am running long during the summer.

When I questioned runDisney when I was looking for a proof of time race for ToT they told me it had to be a certified race. However, the race I signed up for was not, and you couldn't even verify the times on the internet. I thought you could when I signed up, it was my first ever race, I now know I knew nothing at that time. Anyway, luckily I took a pic of my time at the race because that's all I had for proof. But runDisney accepted it. So, I think it is all luck of the draw on who you get to review your situation. It may also depend on the race as mine was a 10K and I don't think many 10K's are certified. A 1/2 and/or full may be a different story.

:wave2: Hi again!!!

Hello. Happy to see you here. You were such a big help last year. :worship: You are always so positive.

What made you decide to run a marathon this year?

I'm curious, has anyone ever had a proof of time denied? From what I've heard, you don't hear anything from runDisney stating your submission was denied, but I don't recall hearing anyone having mentioned getting their waiver and being in an unexpected Coral.

Good Afternoon! Does anyone know if you can transfer from the Half to the Full Marathon. I looked on the rundisney website and I probably just missed it.
I am considering switching to the full if it is possible before it sells out.

TIA!!

"Registrations may be transferred within the same race weekend, to a different race distance, as long as the desired race distance is not sold out. The Guest must first register for the new event for the transfer to be valid; any difference in registration price the for a lesser distance (if any) will then be refunded, less a $35 transfer processing fee."

This is under the "registration" on the Marathon Weekend section of runDisney.com.

Call (407-939-iRun) or use the "Contact Us" to email them. I transferred once from the marathon to the Goofy. They charge the fee but it's an otherwise painless procedure.

Thanks!! Figured I had missed it!! ? :)

I'd been kicking it around for a while, but felt like 2017 was a better fit. But I lost someone - a fellow Disney aficionado - very dear to me recently; someone who'd always been super supportive and encouraging of folks taking chances and reaching for their dreams... it somehow feels important to at least try it this time around, in honor of her memory, if that makes any sense. I'm equal parts scared and excited!

Yep, it happens - it's the exception rather than the rule, but there are always folks here and in other places reporting that their assigned corral doesn't mesh with their PoT. rD/TrackShack has worked with folks obviously misplaced in the past, though.

Actually it makes perfect sense. If she was known for encouraging people to take chances and reach for their dreams what better way to honor her than to take a chance on yourself.

I ran my first marathon 2 weeks after ToT last year. I wrote a summary of that race on the ToT thread. It was hard, no question. And, I am a bit scared about running it again this year, as well as this particular race. But, I will tell you something you told me last year when I doubted being able to do ToT. You can absolutely do this! As long as you put in the training and get yourself a fueling plan you can definitely do it. Besides, its Disney. Running through the parks and being down there makes it much more tolerable.

This is an awesome way to honor the person you lost. Way to take a chance and push yourself. Know that you can do this. The Disney Marathon is a perfect marathon to give the distance a go - great atmosphere, lots of support and the parks. Wish you lots of luck.

Hey guys, check this out:

https://www.squadrunner.co/#!/app/home

This App is supposed to be launched June 18th, and might be a great way to help one to get into the Doppey/Goofy/Marathon/Half training.

We register as a squad and start running "against" other squads.
And here is the catch: we don’t need to be in the same town/country/continent to join the same squad!

Wouldn’t it be nice if we gather all our fellows running Disers into one huge squad? party:

Will it work if you do most runs on treadmil? I mean, will it track that or only outside runs?

I did the 2015 Goofy and am registered for the 2016 Dopey. I said that the Goofy was going to be my first, last, and only full marathon, but... Anyways, I see where Disney is tearing down the WDW Speedway and turning it into a parking lot. I'm wondering if the marathon course will change for 2016, or if the demolition/construction will be after next year's race. Going up on the Speedway and by all the cars was a great part of the course.
