Marathon Weekend 2016

OK ... let's help break some of the training malaise and talk about the REAL important stuff!

1.) What are you wearing for the races?
2.) How are you celebrating over Marathon Weekend? I wanna hear about your awesome ADRs and other things!!

Thanks for your response as always.

Regarding the A5's, I've barely worn them outside of actual races. I wore them on the track a couple times and then for a couple quicker training runs. But honestly they are just very comfortable fast/light shoes with 4mm drop. Very different than what I've trained in, but have loved them to race in. But have probably done almost 20 races in them including 3 halves, 3 10-milers, and a number of 10/5ks.

If you haven't worn the A5s for longer runs (and assuming you aren't doing this already), I would strongly recommend some calf/achilles strengthening exercises ahead of the race ... specifically, eccentric calf raises. Your feet will hurt in the late miles and after the race, but the bigger risk is an achilles injury, which is a slow healer. The bigger you are, the bigger the risk in that regard. Been there/done that.

1. "Trader Sam's Striders" singlet for the half, naturally with Hawaiian shorts. Spaceship earth w/ mickey ears singlet for the full.
2. We have two sets of ADRs, one for if we renew our APs before the race and the other for if we don't (they expire in December). Most likely Il Mulino Friday, Boathouse/Jock Lindsay's Saturday, Chef Mickey/Trader Sam's Sunday. But a reservation at the Skipper's Canteen might change that.
ETA: and Boma for breakfast on Monday.

2. I have a pre trip report going but celebrating the 5k we have Be our guest. Celebrating the half I have chefs de France.

1. I am going to attempt costumes for the first time and go as Eeyore for the 5K and Wreck-it Ralph for either the 10K or Half (depending on how comfortable it is to run in). The full will be done in normal running clothes; nothing singled out yet, but don't see myself attempting a costume for 26.2 quite yet. Baby steps.

2. I feel like wherever I eat on the Disney properties it is proper indulgence. Although I am sure we will hit Boatwright's at least once and probably twice over the five days. Outside of eating wayyyy too much food, regardless of where we procure it, I am planning on watching some movies including, but not limited to, The Force Awakens (probably not for the first time) and The Hateful Eight.

1. Wife and I will be doing Beauty and the Beast for the 5k while MIL will be Tink, and for the full I'm doing a very simple Mike Wazowski (MU hat, and green running shirt with an eyeball design affixed) Wife will be doing Rapunzel for the 10k

2. We are doing Crystal Palace Monday morning and I'm hoping for some cool medal/castle photo ops and we will be doing T Rex (mostly for the little guy) during the after party at Disney Springs other than those this trip will be nice and relaxed well except the running part :yay:

For the full it will be just the normal running shirt and shorts. You never know what our weather will be like then. I would not want it to be warm and in a full costume.

Now for the Princess Half Marathon weekend that I am going to run with my DD, I am aiming for something like this. Although the temp would have to be cool out. I would also like to get a set of nice wings and of course the length would be trimmed just enough to not trip.

My outfits are basically running clothes with added elements - - going for a lost or changed attraction theme for each. I need to lay them out and take pics to share when it gets closer.

No ADRs, just celebrating by park touring!

BUT I had my first marathon weekend dream, we got our corrals and they were doing it in reverse, so slower or no proofs went first, so I was corralled before my brothers, which was funny, but they were waiting hours to release each corral, so it was all just a mess as they day just got hotter and hotter. It's funny as I haven't ran in a few days from terrible butt pain, but I guess it will be okay if I'm dreaming about the weekend, right?!?

Hope your pain gets better fast @BuckeyeBama

1. For the half my running buddies and I are going as Sadness, Joy, Anger and I am going as Bing Bong. I've got some white shorts and a shirt that I am going to dye pink. I've got stuff to make my bowtie and flower and have a Bpwler hat. I just need to find a jacket at goodwill and find some yellow compression socks that I can paint a big stripe on. I am debating wrapping my midsection with tool to look more like cotton candy. (We are all guys, btw)
For the full I think I'm just going to wear normal running clothes.

2. Our big celebration is always at ohana Sunday night. We always get an arial picture of the table with everyones medals on it. I think this year we have via nappoli and GF cafe too. We've been hoping Skippers canteen would start taking ADR's so we could bump our GF Cafe reservation to there.

For those of you that want to walk around the parks with your medals. It's awesome, but hold on to them on tower of terror or they will smack you in the face.

1.) Singlet (may have my local running store logo Mickey ears combo), shorts, socks, shoes, and maybe gloves if its cold enough for the first few miles. The only way I go with anything other than a singlet is if its in the 20's.
2.) 1/10 Ohana, 1/11 - Tusker House (Lunch) & 50's Prime Time Café, 1-12 BOG (Lunch) & Le Cellier!

1) We're doing DisneyBound/character inspired for both our races:
For me - 5K will be Ariel (in her pink dress - I've already made the skirt, I just have to get the rest), and 10K will be Dumbo (I'm about halfway through making a red/yellow/red skirt, and I'll wear a yellow headband, gray top (with a yellow zipper, actually), and gray bottoms under the skirt).
My sister is doing Snow White for one race, she's not sure which one yet, and she hasn't decided on her other costume.

2) Princess Mania. Which is basically every trip to Disney for me, but ... this one is extra special because we have dinner at Akershus on Sunday and breakfast at CRT on Monday. We actually have a lot of fun plans, but Princess tends to be a big general theme for us.
And I hope to see many of you either at the races or wandering around the parks!

I'm like a kid in a candy store. For thanksgiving we are heading to my parents house and there is a RoadRunner sports right around the corner. They do the slow mo video evaluation when fitting you and they have 2-3x the selection as my local running store. I can't wait to go and get fitted. I really want to try out Saucony's new line with everyrun and see how that compares to with 6 weeks to go I still have about 280-300 miles in my training plan before the full so that's plenty of time to break in a new pair of shoes or two.

1a. My two adult kids and I will be wearing red Incredibles shirts for the half. Not sure yet if we will customize them.
1b. My running partner and I will be wearing team shirts for the full. If you see a couple wearing light blue shirts that say "Iron Rail Runners", say hello!
2. 1/7 California Grill. My daughter insists on it.
1/8 Portobello
1/9 Trattoria al Forno
1/10 Hoop Dee Doo Revue. Going to see how much damage I can do to fried chicken after the full.

We don't have park tickets... I'll likely be hanging around the POFQ pool Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Universal Studios on Monday then home...

Please let us know what you think of the new Saucony's. I've been buying Guide's exclusively since I started running and also can't wait to try the 9's.

1) For the 5k we have a fun idea that I'll share closer to the time if we pull it off! 10k we're think Ariel themed with me as Ursula, Dad as Triton and Rachel as Ariel, half we were thinking the incredibles (@JClimacus looks like we could be the same!) and full myself and Rachel will be Minnie due to our sparkleskirts!

2) Our big booking over the weekend is BOG dinner on Marathon day.

01/06 Ohana
01/07 Raglan Road
01/08 Kona Café
01/09 Via Napoli

I also booked in BOG for lunch after the 10k.

1) for the 5K I'm still deciding Cinderella or Mary Poppins. For the 10K I'll be Tink (yasss), and for the Half I'll be Daisy Duck.

2) To celebrate the Half I have ADR for Beaches and Cream (2pm) and an early dinner with my dear @pamster and her sister Alice at the Trail's End (6pm). Hopefully I won't eat myself to death (hahaha!). In addition, to celebrate @Keels and everyone else's Doppey I hope to meet you all at the Cava del Tequila after the Full! :woohoo:

Decided to do some ADRs to make sure we were eating early enough for most of the trip.

1/06-Boatwright's
1/07-At Hollywood Studios, Mama Melrose's
1/08-Morimoto
1/09-Undecided
1/10-Back to Boatwright's

Still trying to figure out what might be a lighter option before the full, a difficult ask considering our locale. Will be our first time visiting Mama Melrose's and Morimoto, so that will be fun. Etouffee Wednesday and Prime Rib Sunday at Boatwright's is becoming a bit of a Dopey tradition for me.

1) My initial plan was to be a "future-world" minnie mouse with a silver 1980's era Minnie shirt I got from the Disney store...but in sad news... after trialing it and washing it...it's not a very good running shirt :( It's a little on the short and boxy side and that arm holes are weirdly proportioned. It's not flattering and I'd really like something that I look good in and feels good to run in. So I now have two options. Keep the plan but ditch that particular shirt OR do something completely new. I may see if SparkleAthletic has some kind of Black Friday or Cyber Monday sale to sway my decision.
2) Chef Mickey's for brunch after the race is our post-race meal. I wanted a character meal so we could pose with our medals. And then that night is the fireworks dessert party.
Our carb-loading meal (which is a joke to us because we know carb-loading is not necessary for a 5k) was going to be at Tony's...but because I secured a coveted A&E fastpass we switched to the plaza restaurant that same night but earlier. I think that will work out fine. We have CRT and BOG later in the trip too and I cannot wait for those! First time for all of us in our party for those.

In cute kid news...I picked up my daughter from daycare and she had made a "what I'm thankful for" art project and she was thankful for "Frozen, Mommy, lunch and Daddy"

Half - Flounder. My friend is deciding between Nemo & Dory.
Full - undecided. Friend wants to do Mary Poppins & Bert, I'm thinking it might be wise to not be in costume :).

ADRs
1/09 - Boma after the Half
1/10 - Beaches and Cream

Still deciding what to do for carb loading on the 8th.
