Is anyone else really disappointed with the non-discount for marathon travelers? I priced out a package awhile ago before 2011 rates came out. I just priced the same package side-by-side and the difference between the two (including the Marathon Monday free park day) is only $21 for a 7 day/6 night stay.

Boo Disney! I'm already paying close to $1000 for airfare and race entry. The least you could have done is give those of us who are coming down this year 20% off!

You have to run for one of the charity groups. They get room blocks at a discounted rate. We got $179 for the Poly.

We had to raise money as well for the charity which we are passionate about, so it was easy.

I agree - run with a charity group and raise enough money and you will get a free room and airfare. I know the Rally Foundation has some sweet incentives for raising over $3,000 for the charity. I only get airfare when I go to Disneyland since I am in Atlanta and drive to Orlando. I never stay on property because my hotel discounts are much better than anything Disney would ever offer.

I'm running for Team In Training (my family is full of leukemia survivors) but that still doesn't help for the week that we're staying after the race. Sure we're fundraising and have our airfare/entry fee/race weekend accommodations covered, but it doesn't help for the rest of our trip.

Wouldn't you be spending that money anyway if you were on vacation at Disney? I don't think that Disney should be expected to discount a vacation for runners as most of us don't go there for vacation but to run and are happy for the discounts they extend during that time. Disney isn't cheap and I would never expect them to discount everything just because we ran in a race.

Besides, I thought you said that you are paying for airfare in excess of $1,000 so doesn't that contradict the Team in Training incentive you are now claiming is covered? My view is that it is your choice to run at Disney and if it is too expensive, there are plenty of other races to run in. Or...stay off property. Otherwise, raise the $3,000 + that charities ask for to get all your room expenses for the weekend of the race and airfare paid for.

Last year we got great discounts for the Princess Half - so maybe that would be a better race to do?

I guess Disney just figures that they are filling up the rooms with the runners and families and don't need to discount them. Shrewd...but true.

Although, this may cause me NOT to go over Marathon weekend this year. I am going to the Wine and Dine and have a discounted room - maybe they are trying to spread out the people to other Disney races and one way to do it is to make it a lot more cost effective to do one of the other races. ??

I've done the marathon the past two years and stayed on property both times. I just use the general discount offered to everyone and it worked out to save me a decent chunk of money both years. I think the package discount came out in late Sept last year and the room only was later on, maybe Nov time frame?

Good luck on the race!!!

CC,

I agree. There will be some promo, whether its a 4/3 or percentage off. You are right. It will probably come out in a month or 2. Hang in there OP. Deals are always popping up.

Also, OP....
You mentioned you were running for a charity. Our charity is letting us book a 2 week window for the room discount, so we are able to stay the following week at the special rate. I am surprised that your group is just allowed to book for the weekend. I guess all the groups negotiate different deals.
