Well...... here we are at the beginning of another week of training!

I did my 6 miles this evening in 2 hours and about 5 minutes. The good thing to report is that I did those 6 miles straight- no rest! Next Sunday .... I add another mile to that! As I was walking the last part of that 6 miles I was thinking to myself that I could now do a 10K- so, there is one here in September that I may sign up for.

This week I was looking on my training website and fopund some really good answers to frerquently ask questions- so I thought I'd share one a day with you. Here's #1

1-
Q.- What happens if I miss a day of traing? Do I have to add that distance onto the next run?
A.- If you miss a day, it's over and forgotten, just carry on with your schedule as written. Do not add the missed distance to the next day. If you miss a week, repeat the last week you did. If you miss the midweek training, do not return and do the long run. Reduce the long run distance to by 1/4 to 1/3, then repeat the previous week.

WHY DIDN"T I READ THIS BEFORE I MADE UP ALL THSOE MISSED MILES?!?!?!?

Have a good training week this week everyone!!

WELCOME TO A NEW MARATHONER-WISKBAND (renee)

I got out early this AM and walked, but it was so hot that I came in after 22 minutes. I hate 96% humidity!

Welcome wiskband! I love the idea of 1000 minutes in August and hadn't seen that thread. I will check it out. Of course I need to bump up from this morning's 22 minutes or I would never make it! ::yes::

Good job to everyone getting ni their walks when it is busy and hectic at home! (tw1nsmom, cheryl, katiebelle)

Have a great week, everyone!
~~Beth

good morning -- I went MIA fri - sun -- sorry! i guess I'm still working on the mindset thing. I have committed to running or running/walking intervals three days a week and today I jogged 30 mins. Probably just under three miles. I'm going to start the 12 week half-marathon schedule that Ashley sent me. Tomorrow is a cross-training day - what do you all do for cross-training? I want to be sure I get my heart rate up as I have about 7 lbs to lose to hit goal.

renee -- welcome!

have a super day all -- eat well and drink your aqua!

Today's a rest day for me, so I'm going to focus on staying OP and will begin some strength training. If I get the time to clean off the back porch/mudroom I'm going to go out there later and do 30 minutes on the recumbant bike. My plan for the week is:

Mon: recumbant bike/strength training
Tues: walk 45 minutes
Wed: walk 1 hour/strength training
Thurs:walk 45 minutes
Fri: recumbant bike/strength training
Sat: walk 45 minutes
Sun: walk 6 miles

Hi everyone,
It's been a long time since I posted on this board. I used to have a 50 lb clippie and had to trade down to a 30 lb clippie. I was training really well for the 1/2 marathon and then haven't done much since the end of April. I've started back again and managed to do a 4-mile brisk walk yesterday. I did a Curves workout this morning. One of my sister's and I have signed up for a 1/2 marathon walk at the end of October in Niagara Falls. It's going to be kind of a trial run to see what we need to do to be ready for the "real" 1/2 marathon at Disney.
Have a great day!

Started out with a 4 mi tmill session this AM. Actually felt good to walk again! Off tonight for the knee evaluation - so then I will know if I can Curve-it again soon ::yes::

Today is the day I start "like a new" WW member" - packed a nice salad, measured the dressing and counted my crackers, etc. I am glad that I am not on "camera" tho - I confess that I was "inhaling" more than the nice, casual eating I should have been doing. I find it more difficult to get back into the swing after a weekend - but after a long weekend away - it's like - did I really say that I would start this re-committment today ? YES - so it will take a couple of days to get rid of the Betty Blimp feel - but it will be worth it! and then onward toward GOAL !!

I saw that ohMom is only 7 pounds away from goal - she is making progress!

Karen - just think how strong those extra miles made you- a 5K in the near future - YOU GO GIRL!!!!

Renee - WELCOME

NancyK - glad to see that you have joined us too - keep up the good work for that trial run and in Jan you will be so confident!

Beth- can't say that I blame you cutting your time short - don't forget to replenish your liquid when you are out there in that stuff!

Time to get back to work - I am so glad that I got right on a computer today - sure helped me to take my focus away from food at lunch and now I think I am into 15 minutes of the 20 min rule (wait 20 minutes and you will feel full - brain finally gets the message!!).

Everyone is doing great - keep it up! Hard to believe we are into August already - January will be here before we know it!

Good Monday evening everyone. It is a holiday here in Canada, and it has been a relatively quiet one at that.

Karen, you did it! Keep up the good work! You are an inspiration to us all.

Beth, good for you for walking in the heat and humidity. I never like to complain too much about the heat since before I know it, fall and then winter will be here. :(

Molli, you are really close to goal. Weigh to go! I do my Curves for cross training. What about swimming or biking?

twInsmom, it looks like you have your week planned. Fingers crossed for your eating plan! I have a sweet craving, I'm afraid.

Nancy, welcome back. I know your determination. You'll have that clippie back before you know it!

Bev, good luck with that evaluation. I've been doing the upper body machines, and the lower body ones have been slowly added as I have strengthened (no squat or glute machines!). I discovered how stupid it was to use the hula hoops to cool down, too. Love to use 'em, but I finally figured out that I use my knee to twist. DUH!

Yesterday was my rest day, so I did my knee exercises and a teeny bit of swimming.

Today, I did a 40 minute walk and the knee exercises, too. So I am on my way to the 1000 minutes for August challenge.

Remember: Just put one foot in front of the other 'cause slow and steady wins the race. . . and the Donald medal!

Hi All,

Well I've finally, officially started this 12 week program. Luckily I have a treadmill in the basement because it is gross out there today. However, just as I was ending my 30 minute walk the belt started seizing. I'm hoping that it's just a bit rusty like me. If it crashes I'll have to go to the mall to walk because this hot air doesn't work for my exercise induced asthma.

I hope that I'm going to be able to do this thing, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Have a great evening everyone!!

Well, my girls took 3rd at State Soccer Tourneys. Played fabulous. They were really worried about being able to play up to the city soccer teams. They tied, won 2-1 lost 2-1 and lost their final game 5-4. The 5th goal went in 30 sec. before the end of the game. I;m so proud of them. The big down side was that our goalie had her finger broken severely and will be out for at least 6 weeks. My younger daughter had to step into the goal. She did fabulous! We got back late Sun. We were all so exhausted. Today I had no energy and needed to get all the laundry and house cleaning done. Hoping for a great nights sleep and energetic tomorrow.

Glad to hear all are continuing to walk and run. I'll join you tomorrow. I'm also going to look into the Curves program. I just don't do well on my own with the strength trainng.

Happy Tuesday to all!!

HI Everyone,

I have been MIA for a few weeks, sorry about that. I haven't been practicing as much as I should, although I walk at least 2 miles every day. I'm worried about time when it comes to the marathon.

I would like to try adding in some jogging or running, but I have a big problem - my thighs. With all the weight I've dropped I still have large thighs, with lots of extra skin. The skin wobbles and flaps around, for lack of a better description, and the skin weighs my legs down. The only thing I've been able to do to prevent it is wear very tight pants (not comfy for exercising) or a long-legged girdle. This bites!!!!!

I've gotta do something - I bought a second-hand gazelle from a friend and it's pretty good. I have plenty of leg strength, and the feet are definitely willing!

I just have to get on with it, huh?

OK, tomorrow I will add in an extra mile, lol.

Hi again all and thanks for the warm welcome..........
I got back ont he treadmill today howver, I couldnt run I did the 5 miles yesterday and my legs just couldnt do it....I did however walk 3.3 miles in 60 minutes thanks to the 1000 minute in august thread!

Hi everyone :wave2:

Welcome to our new posters and welcome back to those who haven't been around in awhile

I'm going to join Ashley in her exercise challenge fro this month. I also joined the 1000 min. of exercise in August challenge. My goal is to walk/jog 3 times a week and cross train 2 times a week at the minimum. I will just be starting with the cross training and actually wanted to ride my airdyne exercise bike tonight but it got to being too late so today became 1 of my rest days for the week. I did get in a 50 min. fast walk last night. I WILL either bike or walk/jog tomorrow!!!

A friend of mine at the last min. joined her DH in a 4 mile walk/run on Sat. night. She claims to not have exercised in a long time other than taking the dog for a walk a few times a week and she was able to walk/jog the 4 miles in 53 min. (avg. around a 13 min. mile) She said the'd walk a little and then jog a little, walk a little than jog a little. She said her legs are still killing her today though. My competitive side keeps thinking if she can do this I can definitely do this with all the fast walking I have been doing and for some reason it is really motivating tme to want to try running more again. Anything to help with the motivation!

Karen GREAT job getting in your 6 miles at one time! And wow next week you will be walking 7 miles. That is impressive!!!!

Beth GREAT job getting in any walking at all in 96% humidity. YUCK! I hope things are gooing OK for you, your mom an dyour family! I think of you often and continue to keep you in my prayers.

Molli WOW only 7 more pounds to goal! You go girl! I am kind of starting the training plan Ashley sent this week too. I figure I'll get going with it full force in 2 weeks when we get home from the vacation I'll be on next week. I think I am goingto try biking on my Schewinn Airdyne exercise bike for cross training because it not only works other muscles in the legs but it also is one of those bikes where you pump your arms. I also want to try my Windsor Pilates tapes again after vaction.

tw1nsmom Looks like you have a GREAT plan for the week! Stick with it, you can do it!!!!

Nancy Good job on getting started with the training again. A 1/2 marathon in Niagra Falls sounds like a good trial run. I'll be anxious to hear how it goes!

Grammy I hope all is well with your knee!!! How did your appointment go? It sounds like your off to a good start with getting back on track with your WW eating. I am trying to be really good this week because I know I willl be bad next week when we are on vacation but then I am going to really jump back on the WW band wagon again too. I am 2 pounds from being able to reclaim my 5 pound clippie, I'd love to be able to do that by Fri. before we leave because maybethat will help me to not go to wild with my eating next week. I am definitely going to wear my bracelet all week to help keep me in check too!

Debbie Glad to see someone else hear has joined the 1000 min. challenge! I love your phrase about winning the Donald medal! I keep thinking it when I am doing my walks.

Susan Of course you will be able to do this!!!! You are starting with a training plan, just stick with it and hang around these threads and you'll get lots of motivation to keep on going!

decaff CONGRATULATIONS on your team taking 3rd in the State Soccer Tournament!!! I hope your goalie is going to be OK! Here's some PD :wizard: to help energize you in the morning.

Baileymouse At least 2 miles a day is a good start! Keep it up and keep adding distance. You still have time to worry about your speed and it seems the longer we walk the quicker we get. You can do this!!!

Wiskband Your legs need to rest a bit after pushing it like you did yesterday. Don't overdo it and hurt yourself! Like Debbie says "Slow and steady wins the race ... and the Donald medal" We post to this thread whenever we get the chance. It is a very MOTIVATING thread! I'm glad you found it!

Have a GOOD Tuesday everyone

Cheryl

Wow! This thread seems exceptionally busy this week! Glad to see all the newbies! :)

I didn't run today-decided to catch up on some sleep after work and took a BIG nap! I did walk two miles with the kiddos, though. It was hot here, so it was kind of a sluggish two miles... It's better than the past couple weeks, though. Can you imagine kids that say, "No, I don't want to go outside today, it's too hot and sunny. I would rather lay here in the air conditioning." I am telling you...these kids are one rare breed! (For those of you who have missed out, these are the very unhealthy kids that I nanny for.) I think I have them convinced that we should do pilates tomorrow, though!

Great job to everybody who is out there and shaking their bodies!

We had some talk about clothes last week, and I just want to let you know about a website I just found... www.sierratradingpost.com If you browse around on there you will find some selection of CoolMax/other wicking material clothing. I did find a few things in plus sizes, but most of them appeared to be long sleeved. This doesn't necessarily help now, but in a couple months it wouldn't hurt to have! I do find taht running in my long sleeve CoolMax shirt is not much different from my short sleeved, though. It is designed to keep you cool, and it really does work. Oh, did I mention that nearly all of their clothes are on sale. It is worth checking the site out if only just for that aspect of it! Happy Shopping! (I LOVE SHOPPING!)

So, how is everybody doing on their cheat free challenge? We should all still have our clippies! MY goal is 3 days training, 2 days cross training, with Kashi GoLean cereal every morning.

Molli - If you have any questions about the plan as you get started, let me know. I count anything that raises my heart rate (intentionally) as my cardio. That means that sometimes it will be pilates, sometimes it will be (if I can motivate them) chasing hte kids around playing tag. Be creative! Just know that those rest days are just as important as the others for weight loss.

Good to see you back, Baileymouse! I can't imagine having to wear long, tight, pants... :( Hopefully you will find something that works for you!

Renee - I think we are all doing the half marathon, except for maybe a few marathoners. We are all going at different paces, but hopefully we will be able to buddy up within our speeds. I know some of us are running, some running with some walking (I'm planning on doing about 9 min run with 1 min walk, or running for whatever span of time my brother can keep up. He has not been stickign to his training very well. He has only gone out and run ONCE!

I was just typing and it disappeared...

decaff - Great job to your daughter on the soccer tourney! Looking foward to hearing your report on tomorrow's exercise... Curves will be good for strength training. The other thing you could do is set up an appointment with a personal trainer and they will let you know the essentials. Good luck!

Susan -- What program are you on? I've don't think I've seen you around before, so welcome to the thread!

Debbie - keep it up and we'll get that cliippie! I'm going for the 1000 minutes, too. I actually bumped it up to 1500. This may be the first challenge I actually achieve!

Bev - Good luck with the fresh start on WW! I'm thinking about signing up when I move home.

Nancy - I haven't seen you on before, but welcome back! Sounds like you came back doubly committed to this marathon business!

tw1ns - Nice looking plan! I am tired just looking at it!

Beth - Humidity :scared: Yuck.

Karen - I have known about the skipping workouts/miles thing for awhile! It has saved me many weeks of having ot redo the same stuff and cramming the workouts in. Remember that cramming them in doesn't work because we really do need our rest days.

Keep it up, ladies! Hopefully I will report an awesome workout report tomorrow! Keep it up! Let's stay cheat free all month!

Ashley:wave2:

P.S. Cheryl, if you check in...

LIl miss.............
I read in an other thread a while ago about running a mile then walking 2 minutes........... thats seems to have worked for me...
Although, I cant get past 4 miels doing that the 5th mile I have been pushing myself is a wacky one............
Anyway, I am gonna try some new combos as far as time......
thanks
renee

Was just about to go to bed but started wondering...............
what do you all think about this............
Being that we are all training, and I assume like me we are gradually increasing our distance adn trying to shorten our time.....
Do you all plan on actually doing 13.5 miles at least once before the big day?

I mean, we are all pushing oursleves hard to do this.........
so will 13.5 miles be a one time event for most of us..............
I am up to 5 miles in one hour and thats really pushing it.I cant help but think I may not finsh.dont get me wrong, I tell myslef positives thought that i will indeed finish but,
will you all try to do the 13.5 at least before the marathon?

whats your thoughts
renee

Well, I had a brainstorm and was looking back at my old logs from when I was first training and realized tht I had really done well when I was out the door by 5:15 for my walk. It's just so hot here by 6AM!! I didn't make it out by 5:15 today, but I did manage 5:30. I planned for 1 hour, but only hit 53 minutes. That's still better than I've been doing and I'm sure I'll be set for the full hour tomorrow...Only 80% humidity this morning and that makes a huge difference!!

I know several are over on teh 1000 minute challenge thread. I just joined there, too. I think that will be very motivating for me!

Ashley- thanks fo rthe website info...I'll look there!

Cheryl, thanks for the thoughts...we're doing Ok.

Wiskband, I thinkmost of us post when we can....glad you are here!! Sounds like you need a rest day after that 5 miles!! I am planning to exceed the 13.5 before the race. Then I'd like to stay in training mode and be able to do the 1/2 again...maybe another race with a family vacation tie in...other than WDW. AND I'd like to make the WDW one an annual event for just me and my sis to get away, but stay tuned on that. I need to finish the 1/2 one time before I sign up for the next one!!

Bailymouse- I can't alk inshorts...they are always riding up and I have chafing on my thighs. Anyway, I have found capri length exercise pants or leggings work best for me. Since I walk early, I really don't worry about what I'm wearing and I'm sure there are days I look quite festive! ::yes:: I'm trying to buy a few pair that are down a size or two so I have something to "grow" into as colder weather hits...I wonder is anyone else stressing over what they will wear to the marathon?lol. I am!!

decaff- CONGRATS on the tourney!! Great that you daughter could step in and be goalie. Good luck with Curves!

Susan- welcome. Which 12 week program are you following? Mall walking sounds good!! I don't do well inthe heat, either!

Debbie- when you get too much winter, send it my way!!

Grammy- we're back on the WW wagon today...I've had a horrid food program since last week!! Let us kno wabout the knee!

Nancy- Niagra in October...that is awesome...I used to travel for a living and was there for a couple days every month. Such a beautiful place...also learned why everyone there wears pants and boots in the winter. Nothing like getting minus 17 up your skirt when you aren't used to it! Glad youa re back!

tw1insmom-looks like a great plan!

ohmom- I haven't been doing any cross training, but I should....

Karen- thank you for posting the question! I love gettin gmore info!::yes::

Ok, everyone, have a great day!

Ran/walked today for 3.69 miles in 108 minutes. Came out to 29 min. miles. Not good, but I'm not feeling very well and haven't put on any miles since last Thurs. ( Does power shopping count - We did hours of school shopping this weekend) Hoping to improve somewhat tomorrow. I like to do my exercise in the morning and prefer an empty stomach. I do drink a 32 oz. glass of water before I go. I'm not really concerned right now but as I increase my intensity I'm going to need some type of fuel. What do other do about early morning workouts and food? All ideas welcome. I'm really new to this serious running. Thanks

We've had two really great days here! It has been extremely hot and humid (by our standards), so I kept the kids home from school (DS's class doesn't have AC...long story) and spent both days in the pool. I'm definitely raising two water babies.

I walked for 45 minutes this morning before it got too hot. I really like getting it done first thing in the morning. It really sets a positive tone for the day.

I like the idea about making the 1/2 an annual event. I too have to get through this one first, but I can definitely see myself doing this more than once. It's a great motivator.
