Marathon Training thread fore 8/1-8/7

Hi everyone,
I'm happy to report that this has been a good week for exercise. Tuesday night my sister was spending the night, so we went to Curves before supper and then on a 4 mile power walk after supper. Yesterday I had a rest day and today I was back at Curves. Tonight I walked for about 40 minutes at a moderate pace. I've made the WISH board my home page so that I stay motivated.

you guys -- talking about what you're wearing already!! he he he LOL!!!! ok i admit, I'm thinking about which fabulous WDW restaurant I want to eat at!

I had to giggle at this - I haven't thought about what I'm wearing, but my three sisters and I are trying to determine where we're having our victory dinner - Le Cellier or at Japan. I guess food will always be our prime focus.

Congratulations Karen! You must feel wonderful. And thanks to everyone else for posting - it really keeps me motivated. Have a great weekend!

UGH!!!! I just typed a long response and it disappeared!

Anyway.....

I ahve no work out to report because my foot and hip are killing me today. Jeeze... I didn't think all that jumping up and down becasue I fit into those capri's would hurt me THAT much! ;) Hoping to get back to training again tomorrow.

So I have the QoTD for you instead

Q-Should I continue my run if I feel pain?
A- If it hurts to run, STOP! You do not need to finish a run on schedule if it will mean that you will miss the next week to six weeks of training. Walk back. Better yet get a ride back. Go home, and ice and evaluate the next morning. If it still hurts, take the day off.

Sounds like most everyone here that has some pain knows the right way to handle it.

Colleen- good to see you here again. I miss seeing you post. I know exactly what you mean when you are talking about weekends ruining your week long efforts! Ya know what else does it for me? When someone is visiting my home for a few days, or I'm on vacation.... heck.... anything out of my normal routine throws me off! How in heavens name does anyone avoid these little snags? Does anyone have any advice ? At least you're keeping on track with your running- That's FANTASTIC!!

Monica- hope you get better weather.... juts one of those little things that can get us off track isn't it?!??!

Mom- Isn't the cruise board great?? Too much info and not enough time! We can hardly wait. Are you thinking about doing a gift basket? I ahve a great idea for you if you are! Let me know!! Good for you for getting back on track. Just keep telling yourself that you want to LOOK good for this cruise- that'll keep ya moving!

tw1nsmom- sounds like your timing is almost perfect! You don't have too much further to improve to hit that 16 minute mile do you??? Congrats on the size reduction in your clothes too! Isn't it exciting???

Grammy- YEAH!!!! You're pretty much good to go it sounds like! that is a relief- and I'm really glad you posted how your Dr.'s appointment went because I'vce been thinking about you alot. Now all you ahve to do is really listen to your PT and do whatever he/she says and you'll be at the front of all of us! WHAT A RELIEF!!! :teeth: Congrats of the self control too- I would've eaten all those yummy desserts.... not just one!

LAWalz- welcome back! We've missed you too- we understand that you were being a great sister, but now, it's time to knock it off and get back to posting here and working out! ;)

Debbie- you sound like you have been very busy! I've been the same way lately- in the mall practically all day. My mom is down to visit and needs to ge\t out and walk, which is good, but she walks sooooooo S-L-O-W !

renee- that is a great distance with a great time! That's very exciting! I think I might take a hint from you and try that and see how I do- sounds fun!

Plutos- 4.6 in 61 minutes is a great accomplishment! Keep up the good work.

Well- that's all for me today. I'll pop in tomorrow and let ya know if I have walked or not.

yep that's my wonderful DD - which restaurant - well I was impressed that she mentioned "seafood" - I was quite surprised that it wasn't dessert! Oh - ye-ah - I will go any ol' where you want to go for dinner ::yes:: mmm - I bet she is waiting for the dessert fantasy until after the marathon  (actually me, too!)

I must say that I haven't thought about what I will "end up" wearing yet either - BUT - I have been stocking up on things that I will start out wearing and then as I physically get going and warm up - take off and leave for the "pick-up". (Are you familiar that whatever garments are left on the streets are gathered and distributed to local agencies for those in need?) Sweatshirt, nylon type long pants and gloves are what I am thinking in the wee hours of the pre-race and then guess I will just wait to see what the weather is forecasted as to how I am dressed to finish it.

You guys are a stitch - can't wait till we are just there - to meet everyone of you :wave2:

Hi there everyone--

Here to report that I made it only 1 1/2 miles today....for some unknown reason my leg was hurting me as I walked...I walked 1 mile, then took a rest/time to stretch (while my friend Colette kept on going), then finished off....so she did 2 miles, I did 1 1/2 - but better than yesterday, and loads better than nothing :D

Tomorrow may end up being a rest day--not sure yet...I'll see how I feel.

Tomorrow is TGI FRIDAY!!!!!

We're not sure what we are doing for dinner (or for the rest of the day for that matter) after the marathon. We're not sure if we're going to want to eat anything good - our stomachs may not be able to handle anything. Our "celebratory" dinner is going to be Emeril's newest restaurant (Tchop Choup or something like that) over at the US hotel complex.

Have a great night

I didn't get going soon enough to get in a full hour so I sped up to get back in time to get to an appointment. Wow- I did 1.71 miles in 26 minutes - thats 15.2 min/miles. I amazed myself. I was thinking about what to wear that I can get off easily after I warm up during the race, and decided on a pair of tear away warm up pants. i found a pair for $5.95 on sale. The rest is yet to be decided. Hopefully , 2 sizes smaller. I was talking to a friend and we were joking about the what we wear to workout LOL!! She said she looks like a "Sea Hag" on the road each morning. I admitted that sometimes I didn't know what colors I'm wearing until I take the sweaty things off. I could care less. I just care that I'm out there and moving.

Keep up the fashion shows and don't fret over what the tiny ones look like. We work harder!

I didn't have a chance to read everyones posts for today but it sure looks like there has been alot of activity here! Keep it up everyone!!! I got in a 40 min. walk/jog last night and 40 min. on the bike tonight. I am still hoping to have time for a short walk tomorrow before we head out on our vacation. I will be MIA next week because of being gone. Have a GREAT week everyone and keep up the training! I WILL get my walks in on vacation lol.

Cheryl

Ok...off topic for this tread, but when have you guys known me to be ON topic?

Some of you konw that my hubby has been out of work for a bit...you know we needed more stress at my house, right? It has been a blessing to have him here with everything going on with my mom....I don't know how I would have hit all the Dr's appointments and procedures if he hadn't been available...and the kids were able to continue with their swim lessons and keep some "normal" to their lives. Well, we got the call yesterday that he's to be back at work Monday morning. :cool1: Yes, that is me doing my happy dance. Like I said, it's been a blessing with him here, but I'm also really used to doing MY own thing and having MY own routine without someone following me around (other than th ekids) and asking, so what are you going to do now? Why did you do that? Have you thought about doing this differently? When are you going to do _______ (just fill in anything.)

Also, my training has suffered because I stay on a better routine with him working. If he's out the door by 5:30, well, I usually have a mile in by then. If he's home all the time it's much harder for me to get up!! So, I'm really looking forward to getting back on track wtih my training.

That said, I did walk 33 minutes yesterday, but took today off and will take tomorrow off, but will probably jump back in on Sunday. OH and it helps my eating plan if he's not here, too!!lol.

Everyone have a great weekend. I haven't read all the replies to the thread but I"m heading back now.

Great news Beth! Lord knows, you deserve it!!::yes::

decaff38: I want tear away pants too, especially cheap ones. Unfortunately, all the pairs I've seen are far from cheap. I refuse to pay $$ only to leave them on the side of the road. I'm so cheap.
"Sea Hag"--too funny.

Mom and Granny: mmmm, Narcoosee's! I guess I have to start planning my dining.

Karen: a trip to my parent's house and the weekend--bad news! I must keep a close eye on what goes into my mouth this weekend.

Wish me luck guys-a 5 mile race tomorrow. I've done 5k, but the extra 2 miles have me worried. I know I can run them, but at what pace? Who would have ever thought I'd be obsessing over race strategy? The up side is the race is along the beach and the weather in NJ is gorgeous!

Have a wonderful day everyone!!

You'll be tearing up the beach. What a lovely run. I am lucky to live inn rural Minnesota Lake country and can run on paved roads through tall pines, wild flowers and around lakes and rivers. It is absolutely lovely and there is litterally no traffic. During a 3 mi. run I see max of 5 cars. Today I got out there and ran/walked a 3.09 miles. Hope to get to Curves later today. I'm looking for a a 5K to do in my area before the summer is over. I have never done one and feel it is time to step to the line and quit being so anxious about it. Enjoy your run!!

Thanks, Karen you are right, I do need to take care of myself. So I walked today, only 20 min though because the big toe on my right foot is very sore to the touch. I have no idea what I did but when I put on my sneakers (wearing sandals a lot due to the ace bandages) it starts to bother me. I hope to do 30 min tomorrow and add my weights. My weight has been pretty steady for about 3 weeks and honestly I am hoping for another 3 weeks at the same weight. I managed 30lbs in 6 months and would happily accept a duplication of that. Lots of family stuff as Sun is a party (more like a wedding, we never do things small) for parents 50th. Then, we leave for WDW and buffet madness (I let my niece and nephew pick the meals for two days and they came up with Crystal Palace, PSB, Park Faire, Breakfastasourus, and my mother picked Chef Mickey's) on Wed then Sun head down to Tampa. And finally next Mon board the Carnival Sensation for 5 nights to celebrate my parents 50th with the immediate family (all 19 of us, lol). I am determined to get my walking in on the cruise, it has never been a problem at WDW where I usually log upwards of 5 miles a day and usually maintain my weight, but a cruise is another story.
Thanks for listening, I can't wait to meet you all. I am thinking about where my mom (coming to cheer me on) and I will eat already too! Happy training!!

Morning everyone - first - just wanted to mention that today is ohMom's birthday - HAPPY BIRTHDAY Molli ::yes:: So do whatever you want today and tomorrow jump right back into your healthy eating and training!

I have been staying within my eating plan, walking and my knee exercises, so I am feeling like I am doing okay - NOW I just have to remember that this weekend !! My PM buddy (AnnieT) said that her WW leader said one time, that if you "cheat" on the weeekend that is 1/3 of the time so how can you expect to make much progress - well I want to keep that thought this weekend so I keep on track!

LAWALZ - you go - enjoy and hoping everything goes great for the party and the trip! Are you going to Boma's? they have yummy desserts :teeth:

Everyone have a great weekend - I hope to get a 6-8 mile walk in later today - off for a busy morning then I'll see - keep up the good work!

:bday: Happy Birthday Mollie! :bday: Hope it is wonderful for you!

I have been on my designated 2 mile brisk walk this am, and brisk it was-30 minutes! Then I did 10 minutes of cool down and stretches. Thinking about heading into Curves, but I did that yesterday, so we shall see. I'll tally up the grand total at the end of the day, and post to the 1000 minute thread.

Have a great day, everyone!
