I am so proud of all you wonderful trainees!

Monica- WOW!!! Your time is fantastic- especially after not feeling so well for such s long time! You keep it up girlie!! YOU WILL NOT BE SWEPT!!

Grammy- such determination! Avoiding being by your DH just so you wouldn't eat! That's will power and singleness of mind. I had an experience similar to that today- but it didn't have to do with eating- it had to do with walking.

Sunday I was assigned to walk 6 miles. Well- I haven't walked more then 2 miles since the beginning of my vacation- and it was doubtful thaI was gonna walk the full 6 miles. I did the first 3 miles in record time for me- about 58 minutes- but I was exhausted. I thought I'd take a 5 minute rest, but when the 5 minutes was up and I got back on that treadmill, I couldn't do it! I walked .10 of a mile and quit. I looked at my bracelet and thought to myself that I couold do it for the group! BUT I COULDN'T!!! I was so disappointed in myself. Well after about 20 minutes - I couldn't stand the disappointment in myself and I grabbd my DH and went downtown to walk on the water front for the last 3 miles. I did that 3 miles in 1 hour 7 minutes- a little slower then the first 3 miles, but made for and overall time of 2 hours 5 minutes for 6 miles. Yes- there are many aches and pains, my foot is hurting me in a way that it's never hurt before- but I can deal with that. What I couldn't deal with was the idea of having to come here to post to my friends that I was assigned to do 6 miles and only did 3.

As grammy said..... THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE! It is a wonderful thing that we have this board to come to and report to, and get inspiration from.

Congrats to everyone for all their personal accompishments last week.

Beth- I'm so proud of you for getting in your walking during this time. How was your mom's appointment the other day?

Ashley- It's about time girlie! I missed you! Please post this week so we know how you're doing with your training- ok???

Have a good training day today eveyrone- it's my day off! But I'll check in and see how y'all are doing!!

Are these boards running really slow today or is it my computer?????

Anyway. I thought I would be so sore today- but the soreness came quickly after I finished my 6 miles yesterday and by this morning- I felt great! including my foot- it's good to go for the day too.

how is everyone else doing today???

Hi there! Happy Monday!

Has anyone else had a hard time getting onto DIS today? I finally was able to get in about 445pm (eastern).....I've been having withdrawls all day:crazy:

Think I'll take another day of rest (other than walking at the grocery store).... I'm still a tad bit sore (but a good sore), and still under the weather (in more ways than 1....supposed to be lots of storms here tonight). Plan to rest up and go for another walk tomorrow.

Karen - way to go in actually doing the 6miles - so what if it wasn't all at 1 time....you still DID it!!!

Hope everyone's weekend went well.
TTFN!!

Great stuff, Karen! Much as I like the gym treadmill for short distances, I much prefer the outside for longer walks. I've even been doing them without the headphones/personal CD. I think that it was the joy of spring and the end of winter that did it. Six miles is terrific! I'm so proud of you!

Monica, I think that you've made the right decision to hold up a day on the walking.

I did 30 minutes+warm up and cool down (35 minutes total) this morning. It was about 2 miles, I think. I haven't checked, but I will....eventually. :) I was pleased.

Take care! Hopefully checking in tomorrow won't be as slow as it was today! :teeth:

I had a really hard time getting on the boards today as well
Monica- the second pst I made was the first time I was able to get onto the DIS and I too went through AWFUL withdrawl! Please elt us know how your walk goes tomorrow!

Debbie- if you did 2 miles in 30 minutues that is fantastic! My fingers are crossed for you when you do the measuring!

It looks like everyone had a hard time getting on today- I can ahrdly wait until tomorrow until we can read what they all did today!

HI EVERYBODY!!!!!:thewave:

I haven't had a chance to read last weeks' postings -- I hope to do that in the next day or two. I"m a bit overwhelmed with laundry, mail, and just the stuff that piles up pre-vacation. I had a case of "i'll do that after vacation" and now it's staring at me!

anyhoo -- good, I think, to be back! great to be back on the boards! the only boards I saw the past 6 days was that of Ocean City MD boardwalk ! I did walk the entire boardwalk one morning - 4.5 miles - in just over an hour - including three stops for pictures :) I did some exercising over vacation but not the norm so I"m giving myself this week to get back in my groove.:bitelip:

I did 30 mins of cardio this morning at the Y and some upper body strength training. I noticed this week that I have gotten real flabby -- what is up with this??

AND -- oh my -- my "inspire" charm fell off this week!! Totally fell off and i lost the hooky thingy and couldn't put it back on. I wore the bracelet, minus the charm, and it just didn't do it for me! I caved to some seaside treats  and a few happy hours got the best of me! oopies!! Melanie - i'm joining you on a committment thread, where is it for this week???

Karen -- i'm doubly proud of you! you go girl!!!! it's soooo hard to get back in the swing of things!

(((HUGS))) to all -- missed ya!:grouphug:

Well, we went to the state soccer tourney and my girls tied a team from the big city. (220Miles from home)The other coach was talking to his team and I over heard him saying," They're from Northwest. They probabably don't even know how to play soccer up there. I wouldn't get too worried about them." Ha- ha!! We ran them all over the field and they ended up in a tie. We had 5 or 6 scoring opportunities and the ball hit the post or went just barely wide. My girls were pretty pumped. We go back down from Thurs. to Sunday. hope they continue to do well. We did some school shopping and went out to eat. I fell off plan but didn't clean my plate so I should be okay. Back to the run today.

Hey, Little miss mickey, I'm from Minnesota, too. I know the cabin thing. I have a couple of freind who have those fabulous 2nd homes. I just visit and enjoy. Hasn't the weather here been odd. Guatamala one day and far North the next. It was 47 at my house on Wed. am. Brrrrr!! It might have made the big change though, finally. Hope it isn't 90 in the cities next weekend. My girls will suffer!

Because I'm really new to this I posted Mondays on last weeks. Opps

Hope everyone walks a bit today!! I know it is Monday(Tuesday)but you'll feel better .

Happy monday!!!!(and Tuesday)!!Really have been under the weather but am hoping Wed. will be the end of this. Looking to run starting at 5:30am. We'll see. I used to do that all the time but haven't found the motivation to do it again.

I just got back from a run! (I did shower first...I was VERY stinky!) I did not want to go, and the whole time I was the Little Ashley that Could... But, it's done with and now I feel better. I did five miles in 55 minutes, so that feels good to be on that track once again... Does anybody else feel like a couple days of rest can be harder on your body that a couple days of physical exertion? That's how I feel... If I just move from relaxing point to relaxing point for a couple days, I am SO WORN OUT! Will somebody explain this to me? I think it has to do with the release of endorphins, but.... I may be wrong.

decaff... You are in Bemidji, right? These cabins ARE amazing. And boy do I know about that State Soccer Tourney... They're playing in Blaine, I'm guessing? And I also agree with you about this weather... IT IS FOR THE BIRDS!

Molli - It sounds like your vacation was so nice! That boardwalk sounds like it would add a little spring to your step as you ran it... :hyper:

Debbie - your runs sound very peaceful. I myself don't know how I will do the marathon without my headphones (they aren't allowed!), I should start training without them... ::yes::

Monica - hope you are feeling back up to par and as bright as the sun! :sunny: Way to take those rest days when you need them. Your body says "THANKS, MONICA!"

Karen - You are such a motivator! Now I feel guilty for all those days that I just said to myself "Hmm... I think i just won't post today, and nobody will know the difference!" It's like I need somebody constantly nagging me to get my butt out there. Anybody want to start giving me the 7:00 p.m. "The day is almost over you had better get your rear end out that door and quit being lethargic, lazy, and start doing something about your body" phone call?! Actually, why wait to seven? You may even rouse me from my slumber early in the morning!! :p

Once again, thanks for worrying me after yet another week of me doing my magical disappearing act!

Ashley:wave2:

Hi Everybody! Thanks for all the birthday wishes. The party was fun even though we had to have it inside.

You go Karen, finishing that 6 miles was a great victory!

Monica-You should rest when you are sore. Hopefully you were able to exercise today.

Debbie- Way to walk. I want to get down to your time. I find that I walk faster without my headphones, though I do not know why.

ohMom-Welcome back from vacation! You will be back in the groove before you know it!

decaff38-Congrats to your daughter's soccer team for showing that other team's coach how to play. I have to get up at 5:30am to walk in order to get to work on time. And it has been really tough lately.

Ashley-I want to run like you. I know I am more energized after a few days of exercise. I think it depends on what your body gets used to.

Beth-Hope your mom has more good days! Take care!

Tw1nsmom-I have some friens who are SpecEd teachers and am working on my Masters in that area. It is terrible that you have to fight for everything for your kids, but keep it up because more schools than not will ignore an IEP if the parents do not push for it. Do you have parent advocates that can help you get what your kids deserve?

Thanks for being here everybody because I think of you even when I am not able to get to post and you keep me honest and on the right track for the most part. It rained most of the weekend so I did not walk but Monday I got in 2 miles and today I was very proud of myself as I did 3.5 miles in the Chase Corporate Challenge in the pouring rain for the most part. It started when the race started and ended just as I was finishing. I finished in 1 hour 6 minuteas and 56 seconds but I am substracting 2 min 3 sec because that was the time when I got to the starting point as I started at the back of the pack. I figured my real time was just under 1 hr 5 min which is a personal record for me as it is just under 19 min. This means I shaved a minute off of my time in about 6 weeks so I am becoming more confident that I will be able to beat the bus in January.

Have a great Wednesday, everybody!

Good morning walkers!! I have two confessions...first, I haven't walked since Sunday and second I hit the Pizza Hut Buffet last night. Although it is "all you can eat" I stopped well before that, so that was a mini success. I hope to get back on track with my walk in the next few days...maybe tomorrow...

Karen, thanks for asking about my mom. She has really good days and really bad days. She had a check up yesterday with her primary care and he told us to get to the pulminologist ASAP, so we head there today. Mom's lung (or actually the sack around it) is already needing to be drained again, so we will head to get htat done. She's back to struggling to breathe. It's only been 12 days since that previous procedure, so that is not good. He also suggested that she call Hospice. We were planning to do that, but really thought we'd have more time....

But, on a positive note, my mom has really good days and we are cherishing each single second that she feels up to spending time with us. We try to get her out and moving when she can because we don't want her to feel house-bound at this point....and although I'm over there quite a bit, she's still at her house and independent.

Everyone is doing a great job on their training!! I will pick up my motivation soon, and if I don't, I'll just have to keep up with all of you guys' energy in January.

Ashley- glad to see youback! I've missed your enthusiasm! LOL at you needing to shower BEFORE your run!

Monica- Ihope you are back on your feet now!

DEbbie- great time on the 2 miles!

Ohmom- wecome home!! Sounds like a great trip!

decaff- congrats on your girls soccer success!! It's exciting to be a part of that! Did you get in that early run this AM?

LAWalz! Great job on the race!! Keep up the good work!!

Just out of curiosity, is anyone already looking toward marathon 2006??

Have a great day!
~~Beth

good morning :)

well I really really didn't want to do ANYTHING this morning -- but I surfed the WISH board a little and decided if you all could do it - so can I. Plus I WI this morning and that motivated me too!! I have 9 lbs now to lose to be at goal weight --

So I did the 1.2 mile block I live one three times -- jogging some --in like 47 mins. I feel very slow and chuggish and clunky. I understand where Ashley's coming from. I feel antisocial and bloated too -- where are those endorphins when I need them??!!

I'm going to chug some water and do 20 mins of yoga and then hit the shower. (I second the LOL of showering before!)

trola -- prayers to you and your mother -- did you get a walk in today? you need endorphins too!

LAWalz -- i'm impressed you raced in the rain! cyber high five!

decaff -- how exciting for your girls!! i know how awesome it is to be in an early morning exercise routine -- i'm not there now in the summer, but I miss that early morning time and aspire to get there again soon too!

bettter go yoga before i lose my momentum!!!

BTW -- disneystore.com is having a pin sale if anyone buys sets for pin trading:teeth:

Good Morning all! My body is sore this morning! ll I had to do yesterday was walk 1 mile- which I did- but I was at the mall for almost 4 hours yesterday..... and I think the soreness from my 6 mile walk on Sunday has come back with a vengence! I'm actually sorer now from that 4 hours at the mall then I was from walking the six miles I did Sunday!! I'm gonna do some good stretching before I do my 3 miles today- or I may not be walking by the end of the day!!!

Mom- I am always so impressed with your efforts to train even when you don't really want to move the ol' body. I am proud of you for using the motivation you find here and doing your running even though you feel like you do not want to. Not only do you run, but you do yoga in addition to the run! You will lose that 9 lbs. before you know it. I have come to the conclusion that when I vacation, I really need to make an effort to keep in training. It was too hard for me to get back into the swing of things (I'm still finding it REALLY hard to want to train after being home for 2 weeks). My inspire charm fell off as well, but I saw when it happened and was able to secure it on again- this time it will NOT fall off! I just love my bracelet- makes me think of you guys all the time!

Beth- sometimes Pizza is good for the soul! I hope you enjoyed every bite of it and are back OP now. It sounds as though the progression of your mom's disease is quick. I hope she will, and you, will be comfortable about what is happening. You keep walking my friend. The physical exertion will be a Godsend to you in the coming weeks. It's inspirational to hear about how she is keeping a posititve attitude and how you are spending your time together. I hope you are taking some notes on her life, going through old pics etc. to get info for your family history. Your children will want to know all about her as a child, and about her parents- and she is the only one that has that info. I often think about that myself. My dad died a few years ago. On his casket there were dozens of plain white roses. All I could think about was to take 5 of them and keep them so that when my kids got married, we could hide one small dried rose into their wedding flowers so that they would know that their grandpa was there with them at their wedding. I have these roses on my bedroom dresser. I think of him everytime I see them- which is everyday. Even tough I am young, I have picked out certain wedding needlework that I can do for my children and grandchildren , that will be done before any are even married/born. Hope that doesn't sound weird. I think because I am a cancer survivor, I think about those kind of things. Anyway- I'm very proud of you for spending so much time with your mom. Even though it can be very difficult to do so, you will not regret it at all.

LAWalz- good for you for gettng out there in the rain! Keep it up - because if it rains on marathon morning- you'll be ready to go!

Ashley- YEAH!!!! I'm so proud of you for getting out there too! I understand about just not wanting to do any of it- but you keep it up! How's the search for shirts going??

Decaff- All I can say to you is that the "little guy" got his vengence didn't he?!?!?? Congrats to your DD on their soccer victory's! Did you get off on your walk today?

Have a good day everyone. I'll be back to post IF I survive my 3 miles today!

I'm back from my walk......Oh my heck! I just finished my 3 miles for today in 54 mins. 41 seconds!!! That is 18:13 minute mile. That is such a good time for me! I felt pretty good too. Didn't do any kind of pattern to it- I did jog- when I felt like it, but I wouldn't even say it was consistant. I did realize that when I jogged it was usually for about 30 seconds at a time.

You know..... NEVER thought I would lose that 20:00 minute mile, but I think I finally have!!

Does anyone know where you can buy plus size excercise clothing that is made with coolmax??? By the time I am done with those 3 miles I'm totally sopping wet (something that would ahve never happened before!) and I can't stand it!!! I'm gonna go and buy some good thick coolmax socks too. I bought some at Target, but they are 1/4 the thickness of the really good pair of coolmax I have - but that pair was $11.00 (I got them free because my cute 23 yo DD was with me when I bought my shoes and the buy that helped me was trying to impress her! He was cute to boot!!!)

We'll I planned on an early morning run but overslept and nneded to get to work by 7:30. So I came home and sat around , then read the board and you guilted me into a run. Not long or fast (1.5 Miles at 19 minute mile) but a run anyway. I was going to relax but my conscience got the best of me. I would have run longer but a thunderstorm is rolling in so I headed home. I'm done with Summer School and am packing to go to the big city for soccer tourneys tomorrow. I always love it when you are on the road. Can't fuss any more. Are any of you watching pieces of the Democratic Convention? Some really interesting speakers so far. My mother-in-law (who died of Alziemers last year) would always watch the convention. She always hoped she would be a delegate. I watch in honor of her. She was a great lady of compassion and conviction. I miss her smile. Hope everyone is having a good training day. I will post after my 4 day trip. Keep up the good work!!!:sunny:

Well, I'm back. I haven't walked at all this week (well i did do my long walk on Sunday), but up until this evening I was doing great eating OP. I'm going to get up tommorrow and start over with walking and healthy eating.

My DS's CPSE (committee on preschool special education) meeting was very stressful. I found out that the committee doesn't have the power to force the preschool to follow a particular integration plan since they are a private business (that would be up to the state and they've already approved their plan for next year). However, I did get them to compromize and agree to have DS integrate more fully (he'll go to PT, OT, or speech for the first half hour of his day and then directly in the integrated classroom, thus missing the seperated part of the day...he would have been pulled from class for therapy at some point anyway). Because they consented, it goes in his IEP and they have to do it. Of course they only compromised after we said we were going to pull DS from program and have him receive itinerant services. They would have lost a lot of money. Even though we pretty much got what we want, I walked away feeling like I had let the other children in the program down by not getting them to change their integration policies.

Again, sorry for the long winded story. I just thought that since I went on and on about this on last weeks thread I should let you know what the outcome was. Oh well, I really have to stop letting stressful situations effect my eating/exercising plans. All of you seem to handle lifes ups and downs so much better than me.

Just a quick post for clarification...

I showered after running and before posting. I didn't want you guys to be able to smell me through the computer! You think I care what those people out there in public care about my stench?! NO WAY! Just my WISH buddies... <--Ashley in public princess: <--Ashley for her WISH buddies

On the shirts... I set my mom on that task until I got home, but she hasn't come up with anything that I know of as of yet... I will definitely take the reins once I get home in mid-August. That should still be plenty of time.

For CoolMax stuff... I always go to Galyan's. They have so many things there! I found that I really like HIND brand. I'm not sure if they have anything in plus sizes there, but I am sure it is out there. My mom orders plus size Champion running bras from a place in Ohio, and she is willing to try and find out for you! Oh wait, I just called "her" store, and they said that the websites for Champion, Nike, etc. usually have 1x-4x sizes on them. Check them out! (And, for the record, according to the book I read when I started this journey, CoolMax, DriFit, etc. is just a fancy schmancy way of saying "polyester based fabric designed to wick moisture from the body," and that cotton is the one thing taht will really kill because the moisture just sticks around (no pun intended)). For my socks, I have GoldToe Ankle socks that I really like. My really comfy pair of expensive non-GoldToe socks is not quite as comfy after they leave their big mark, being a GIGANTIC blister, on my foot.

Now, kind of a personal question... Does anybody get SWASS when they run? This is a word we came up with during volleyball in high school, being an abbreviated way to say Sweaty "Butt." I hate SWASS as it makes it look like I wet myself or something by the end. Do you think anybody notices? It is so gross to me!

Beth - I am definitely looking towards Marathon 2006, even considering training for the whole shebang! We'll see how this one goes, first...

Karen - Your times and your improvement are amazing! Keep up the great work! You make me want to do better myself, because I can only imagine the smile that creeps across your face as you think of your accomplishments! :teeth:

Beth - I sometimes wonder how we go on when life throws us curve balls. You and Karen have both helped me realize that there are ways to overcome these. The way that you are working on giving your mom so much more life in her days is beautiful, and I also hope you are writing down notes from her life. How I wish I had a book of all the stories my grandma told me so I could remember them better. Karen, the idea with the roses and the embroidery is beautiful. As a florist I find that to be such a neat idea and one I have never heard of before. I hope that one day as I hope to design more weddings, I am able to suggest such simple remembrances for their wedding flowers.

Molli - Good job getting yourself motivated! You are right, if I bust my buns, I want to see everybody else out there busting theirs!

LAWalz - It sounds like you really took that Race by storm! I wish I had a race to enter! I haven't raced since track six years ago! And even then, it was only one mile. And it kind of makes me sad to think back at how I let myself go from my time then to my time now. If I could do it all over again, I'd have never quit running!

Well, off I go to watch some movies!

Ashley :wave2:

First off - WOW Karen for your 6 miler:Pinkbounc :bounce: impressive!!! way to go!!!

And to everyelse - good job! keep it up!

Everyone is such an inspiration - you all make me teary eyed;)

Tw1nsmom- sorry for your stress. Glad you got what your son needed! My dm works for easter seals and she is always complaining about the policies & crap. The ones who make the final decisions don't always know what the children need, so frustrating:mad: And about dealing with life's stresses,my dh has been acting like a jerk(I think there is a full moon?) , so in the last couple of days I've had spaghetti, margaritas, chocolate & burger king - yikes and I'm supposed to be on atkins:crazy:

Anyhow, I walked 3 miles on sunday and nothing since. I need a big one tomorrow and I need to go back to plan. where did I put my bracelet?????

Keep up the great work:wave2:

:wave2: Hi Guys! I did another 30 minute walk this morning which took 35 minutes to include the cool down. Not quite as fast, but I'll take it.

I had physiotherapy this afternoon. Because I had walked, she said 5 minutes on the treadmill (I did 9 minutes. :o I love the high tech machines!), and then a couple of other machines before we did the knee workouts. . .and butt strengthening. AND we talked about the best way for me to be "on" my knee, to stretch and to strengthen.

tw1nsmom, I'm glad to see that you got what you wanted for your son. Maybe over the course of the year, you could help others advocate, too. Fingers crossed that your situation will affect the integration of others, too.

Ashley, I got my CoolMax shirts/shorts at Costco. And I do love them!

AuntMeme-you'll be back on target before you know it!

decaff-Good run! and Good luck on the soccer front!

Karen-AWESOME time for you! Weigh to go. And those Cool Max shirts/shorts? I couldn't find the ladies, and bought men's. Just picked my colours carefully. Later, I did find the ladies, and bought a sleeveless blouse. :)

Remember: Just put one foot in front of the other 'cause slow and steady wins the race. . . and the Donald medal!

I noticed you mentioned you "knee" I 've only been on this thread for 10 days so I'm not up on everyone, but was wondering what you did to your knee. I had my ACL replaced in March of 2003 and I'm great now!! Love those orthopedic surgeons..!! No bedside manners but great skill. My knee is great to run on and I have very little pain. I have more pain in the other knee than the repaired one. Good luck to youwith your rehab.

SWASS !!!!!!

That is too funny!!!
Where's that mooning smiley when you need it !?!?!?!?

Thnaks for the site ideas for cool max-= I'll check them out.

Debbie -way to go working through your therapy and still walking!

MeMe- Come On girlie!! You can do this walking stuff- let's see ya post tomorrow about your success in walking- even if it's just 10 minutes out of your busy schedule..... YOU CAN DO IT!!

Tw1nsmom- sometimes things take a back seat to more important things.... right now straightening your kids education out is priority, and as much as you'd like to help out other kids- what's important is that you were able to get your kids what they needed- work on the other stuff later- don't feel guilty because you couldn't do for all. Sometimes- you just can't.

Decaff- I had to laugh when I read your post- it IS amazing howm this thread can push the guilt button isn't it! Good for you for listening to your inner voice and moving that body of yours! We're ALL proud of you for getting up and out!
