Marathon Training Thread for 11/28-12/5

Looks like everything is really coming together for all of us! I just love how we are pulling together to get each other through. I am thrilled to be here!

I have my Wogging stuff packed and plan to take my morning wogs.
In just under 24 hours we will be there and I hope to check out what I can of our upcoming trek. :teleport:

Keep on keepin' on!

I hit the thrift store today--and for less than $14 got a jogging suit/windbreaker, 2nd pair of wind athletic pants and a sweat shirt. Both pants have zip legs--so hopefully with pracitice, I will not have to destroy the pants to remove them easily. I figure since they are donating the clothes--I might as best I can keep my clothes in one piece. Now all I have to do is find a toss away blanket :)

Today is my rest day and tomorrow is my long day--16 miles!! Think of me and my chevrolet--"shev" your left and "lay" your right that is. My step-father used to say that to me anytime I asked for the car--take the chevrolet--but we don't have one--yes you do "shev" your left and "lay" your right. I didn't really like him all that much!

Hi everyone, I'm back. I had some medical and computer problems the past 6 weeks so I am a little behind but I plan to try my hardest anyway.

WOW, thanks for all of the information. I did the run with DD this week and a short time on the treadmill. I have the house to myself this weekend so I am going to get on the TM tomorrow, cover up the read outs and just walk while watching TV and see how it goes. I won't be on anyones schedule except for mine. Although I have lots of work and cleaning to be done as well.

Where can I get a lime green T-shirt? Anyone have a good website to use?
Thanks again for all the information and suggestions.

Off topic--sort of...

I was just able to buy tickets on Southwest Airlines to fly to Baltimore in January. We bought for our family of 4 and it cost us only $386. I know tickets are still available the other way around--and various cities are pricing near that price range. Might be helpful if some of you hadn't purchased your airline tickets yet. Also on the budget boards some were sharing of some deals on Independence Airlines--but I am not familiar with them.

Tiger Lily--tickets from Cleveland are $142 total per person

From Phoenix about $216

St. Louis $176

Islip $135

These are all on weekday flights--weekend flights may be a tad higher--not sure where else everyone else is from--Using quick reply and was reference the locations listed on page 7 from everyone's signatures.

This is OT too, but I want to be sure everyone sees the Poll Thread I put out about our Pre marathon dinner choices for Saturday night. Make sure you get out and VOTE!

Also- I think we need to try to keep this thread and all other Training threads to only training posts. Is that ok with everyone? I'm noticing that I'm really sliding off track because there are so many other things here to draw my attention away from the training aspect of the thread. Please don't take this personally- I have posted OT reply's here as much as the next guy! Just look at what I posted at the top of this reply!!!!
Anyway- let's just start new threads for all other WISHWalker marathon topics- it'll give us and all the other WISHER's something new to click on!!!

I have gotten back into training . Tues. I did 120 minutes at the gym and today I did 60 min. (45 on the elliptical) I inpressed the ladies at the desk. They asked how long I was on the machine . I've started to get back on plan and have lost 3 pounds. Tomorrow I do an 8 mile walk/run. Might try it on a treadmill. We have had 4 inches of snow. I bought myself new running shoes yesterday. They are New Balance Bright Yellow and black. Great price. I can't seem to figure out why my toes go numb shortly after I start running. I have tried 5 different pairs of shoes and 5 combinations of socks. I've loosened and tightened my laces but no luck so far. They even go numb on the elliptical that has no pounding of my feet. Hope I can figure it out.
I would like to purchase the convention tickets but we are not staying on Disney Properties. Can I still qualify to purchase them? We will probably use them first on Monday 1/10. Would love to save some$$$. We will only need 3 day hoppers with a plus (5 adult). Haven't done the Math to check out the new tickets.

Thanks for your help.

my 9 mile walk for this weekend - yep -all done - did it on the treadmill - I know some of you "hate" it but I do okay - actually think I go faster on it as I can keep my pace set. Did it in 2:04 - happy with that - but mostly just happy that I got it done and now I am off to shower and move on with a busy day!

Decaff - I'll be thinking of you on tm - I just pop in an Oprah tape and go......... and the toe thing - my feet don't go numb but my long toes always bruise on long walks - today no exception!

I will be here later checking out the posts - just had to stop by and say - whew - I'm done :cheer2: so checking that off my weekend to do list!!

AWESOME TIME GRAMMY!!!! WOOHOOOOOOOOO! I'm so impressed! Do you realize how fast that really is? WOW! I'm to do 10 miles today and I was dreading going that outside where it's cold/foggy. Maybe I'll do it on my TM this morning and get it over with like you did! I really like walking first thing in the morning. IF I don't, I just won't get it done!

Did my 16 miles in 3:05:23...wahoo!!! Coach says we are in our final phase and we can do whatever is enjoyable and easy and to not push it anymore. YEAH!!! I don't think I was pushing it today. I didn't hit the wall at 14 miles like I did 2 weeks ago...the legs were functioning well until the very end. I also noticed that my walk break paces are timing faster than normal. YEAH!

I shaved about 10 minutes off of my 16 mile time from 2 weeks ago :)

A note of encouragment--when the coach was telling us to not strive for our Personal Record during training--he was saying that if we can do a 12 minute mile easy now--that we should have NO problem getting around a 10 minute mile on race day. I want to encourage you ladies--b/c the proof is in he "wogging/walking/jogging/running"...My time last week during a race was phenomenal!!! The coach is saying that during a race--you can clear 1-2 minutes extra OFF of you pace time...that is what happened to me last week...so those of you walking at the 18 minute paces--you should give yourselves a pat on the back--because on race day--you will FINISH and get donald around your neck :) (I cleared about 90 seconds off of my pace during the race last week).

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

GO WISH TEAM!!

Lisa- it sounds like you're right on track too! COngrats on a great time. I would LOVE it if the race would take 2 minutes off my time!!! Let's keep our fingers crossed that we ALL will lose 2 minutes in the excitement of the event!

I did a toal of 6 miles today before I had to stop because the old shins started hurting again. But it wasn't an AWFUL hurt- it wasn't bad at all! I just really w ant to babay it so it doesn't get to be what it was!!! I did really great with my eating today too- which is the first tiem ini at least 2 months! I feel so much better too. Well- maybe something is starting to kick back in, and I really will be ready for this half marathon on January 9th!

Decaff- It's so good to see you again! ANd you have really not lost too much if you can go to the gyn and do what you've done! You're toie thing would suggest to me a lack of circulation in your legs. Well- maybe! That just doesn't seem right. Does it start right away? If it starts well into your walk, maybe your feet are sweeling too much for your shoes. Where have you loosened the laces??

Lisa - Great time!! What wonderful words of encouragement to everyone. I found that out when I did a 10k. Almost 2 full minutes off my best mile time. What a treat!!

Grammy - Thanks for the encouraging words. I bought my shoes a full size bigger than usual to prevent sore toes and it worked. Good luck!!

Karebear1- I like to get my walking done as soon as I get up. It always gets done if I put it first ,otherwise I think about it all day. I'm going to see the Chiropractor this week. He also is a Sports Med. person so I am hoping he can help with the toe thing..

I got in 125 minutes on the treadmill at my school this am. I ran 1 minute and walked 3 like the Book says. I started running 2 and walking 3. That worked better for me because I just wasn't getting in a full minute when I was switching. Felt good to be done. I think I made it 7.5 miles. Watched Sleepless in Seattle while I treaded. Went quickly. My toes started going numb. I started really wiggleing them to fight it off and it worked for a bit.

Tonight my older daughter went to her Winter Formal. She is so grown up but still wants my help. We had a hair appointment at 2:00 , got there at 1:50, told it would be a 30 minute wait, she finally sat to get her hair done at 3:20. She was suppposed to be at her friends for pictures by 4:30. We were driving home at 4:30. Got home at 4:45, she put on her dress, I grabbed her bag and sleepover stuff and we were out the door at 4:55. 10 minutes to get ready for formal!! Amazing!! Not even any tears. Kept telling her to take deep breaths. She looked beautiful!! The younger daughter went off to snowboard (first day). I'm just relaxing and watching a bit of TV.

Might take tomorrow as rest or do pilates if I have time early.

Hope all are well and training consistantly!!!

Hi everyone. Debbie and I did 2 hours and 10 minutes today including warmup and cooldown. I'm going to double-check the mileage tomorrow because with all the moving of my fanny pack, I'm not sure if my pedometer was working properly. I'm thinking close enough. We did 7.1 miles, and I didn't feel we were pushing the speed at all. In fact, it was hard work in the fact that it was terribly cold and windy. We might not have been moving as fast, but we were definitely working as hard ::yes::

Congrats to everyone on another fabulous training week. 5 weeks from right now it will almost be time to get up and have a quick "wake-me-up" shower. I'm kind of wishing I had a TM now with this bitter cold weather. It rained for part of our walk today, and it was sooooo cold.

Mary-Liz

DECAFF38 - Has anyone mentioned getting your running shoes a half or whole size larger than you ussually wear? I had two different shoe guys tell me that and it has really worked for me. I moved up from a 10 to an 11 and it really made a difference (yes, my feet are boats).

Well, I'm finally back on track with my training (again). I did a short walk today so that I didn't over do it. I was able to do my 4.35 miles averaging right about 16 minute miles. Dh has been instructed to kick me out of bed for my walks the next 6 days. I agree with everyone who says that doing your walk/runs first thing in the AM is the best way to make sure it gets done. If it's too cold/rainy/snowy, I'll drive over to the mall. They open at 7AM for walkers.

Dawn

I tried to post yesterday, but it didn't work! I did 11 miles yesterday in 2 hr. 30 min. I felt really good. Now I feel a lot less good, like a rickety old lady! I am afraid that my limbs are simply going to abandon me, they are VERY unhappy! (My mind feels better, though, because I found time to do it... and now I know that I'm not insane having the goal of completing this half!)

Sounds like you are all doing quite well! I will get that Jellyrolls meet thread up very soon. Friday night is what we're aiming for for that, right? I might make my way over there Monday night, too... We will see.

I can't wait to meet you all! FIVE WEEKS til race day! (We will be done by this time then!!!)

Keep it up! You are all so inspiring. Thanks, Karen, for getting me back on track! You were what I needed to remind myself that I have my own goals to worry about!!

We have walkers AND runners in our group--he was speaking to the whole group...so it is possible--you guys have to cheer each other on--that is THE trick! Keep up the good work--and you guys just walk your way to victory lane!!! You will shave time!!! The atmosphere is busy!!! You'll go faster and not even know it!!!!

Hi everyone

We were having computer problems agian and couldn't connect to the internet from Tues. until my DH finally got things working again today. I have a feeling we are going to be buying a new computer in the not to distant future :badpc:

This has not been a very good training week for me and I had such intentions to really be walking a lot and it just didn't happen  Wed I walked on the HATED treadmill for 60 min. and did OK but then when I was stretching afterwards I felt my right hamstring cramp up badly which left it sore until yesterday so today I walked outside and I got a blister on my left heel making me quite walking at 40 min instead of the hour I had hoped to get in. I haven't had a blister in months and I even wore my good socks. I feel like I am starting to fall apart and at all times with only 5 weeks to go when I need to be getting in that last good training. Well I've bandaged my heel and hopefully I'll be in better shape this coming week. Sorry for all the wining!

On a much cheerier note we did decide to buy DVC!!!! We decided to buy directly from DVC so our home resort is Saratoga Springs and I actually made our first reservation for June at the BC. I am sooooooooo excited!!!!!!!

Kepp moving everyone! We can do this!!!!!!

I'm off to run some errands and then I'll be back to get caught up here on the boards.

Cheryl

Cheryl, don't beat yourself up for a rotten week. You and I can start our own club. Last week is over and we're on to a new week. Let's begin anew tomorrow. We still have lots of time to get it all together and if we don't we'll have fun trying.

Have a great Sunday evening everyone and we'll see you on next week's thread!!

Thanks Susan for the words of encouragement! Here's to starting anew tomorrow :jumping4:
