Hello all-
Here's the next part of my report on our family's first trip to WDW for the Marathon weekend. We arrived in WDW late on Wednesday (the 7th) night and spent Thursday doing the Pirate Cruise, Richard Petty and then over to MGM for some rides and fireworks.
Friday morning came and we headed off to the Expo at the WWOS complex. Since we were driving we just drove a short distance and got there quickly. They were running shuttle buses (like Mears or others) from the resorts. At the BWI they stopped at the conference center area instead of the regular bus stop area.
We got to the lot around 9:45 am and were surprised to see tons of peopel there. Heading up the walkway we realized *duh* no race paperwork. We debated heading back to the resort but went inside to see if we could pick up our race packets without our paperwork. Indeed we could! Just needed a picture ID and signed another waiver form for each of us.
I headed over to my number section-you got to a window based on your bib number and pick up a bag with your race bib, claim check attached and the chip you need for the marathon or 1/2 marathon.
DH got his Family Fun Run t-shirt and bib number and DS got his bib number as well. The 5K included a free t-shirt and the kids race just had some basic race info included. Before we left the area I took my envelope with the chip and had it scanned so that I knew they had my info correct and it was perfect.
We headed to the downstairs portion of the expo where I picked up my goodie bag (power bar samples, 1/2 marathon t-shirt, and other samples, plus race info included) and looked at the displays. We picked up some samples and were intrigued by the race merchandise offered like photos from throughout the race by Action Sport International or commemorative plaques by Fond Memories Graphics. I ordered a 1/2 marathon plaque so I could showcase my Donald medal at home!
We picked up some race merchandise--the had lots of both 1/2 marathon and full marathon t-shirts (long & short sleeved), sweatshirts and other marathon merchandise like visors, caps, jackets, wind suits, watches, pins, keychains, postcards, kids clothing, etc.... Got a neat reversible marathon jacket for $68-not too bad for WDW! We got lots of shirts and some other souveniers to remember the race.
The All-Star Cafe was offering an all-you-can-eat pasta and salad meal with bread for something like $8.99 + tax. I have lots of food allergies so I couldn't eat there, but have heard it was good. Great for carbo-loading before the race!
We were all set for the fun weekend to start!
