hi we were thinking of having a cs lunch at mara in akl but is it good? also, does anyone know how long it takes to take the bus from all star movies to the akl? disney tells me to expect an hour long commute but i looked at the map and it looks very close...anyone? :confused3

I think it is good. You may get differnt opinions on these boards regarding The Mara. The only thing that bugged me about it was the music. Imagine bongo drums playing really fast, really loud for 15 minutes solid! Get me 2 Excedrin as soon as possible please!

We eat at the Mara several times when we stay at AKL. They make a very good roasted chicken sandwich on pretzel bread. It is one of the pre made sandwiches. Once time when we were staying at BWV, we went to Mara after dining at Boma just to get some chicken sandwiches to have for snacks. oh .. and some zebra domes tagged along with us!:)

I have never noticed the loud music ..and I am usually the first person to complain about loud noise. :) There is a nice patio near the pool where you can eat.

The problem with getting to AKL from AS is you will have to take the bus to the AK and then change to AKL bus. No, it is not far, just no direct bus.

It is only about two miles. However there is no direct bus service between resorts. You would have to wait for a bus, take it (probably to Animal Kingdom) and then wait for another bus to go to the Lodge. I would definitely tell you to not even think of walking as Osceola Parkway has no sidewalks.

We only ate lunch at Mara once. The Zebra Domes & Chocolate Mousse Crunch things were fantastic. The Chicken Tandoori Pizza left alot to be desired, however. We were very late for lunch & there wasn't much selection of premade salads or anything by that point tho. Oh - The Mango Smoothie is good too!

The African stew in the bread bowl was yummy. Also had the fish and chips and they were also good.

I had a great fried shrimp platter there for lunch. There were tons of shrimp on top of a mound of fries. My cholesterol is shooting up even thinking about it, but it's worth it! :cloud9:

I am glad so many had good experiences. The limited menu on allearsnet.com was making me a little nervous about picking AKL. We will eat at Boma but with two little ones it will be nice to have a good quick service place right there at the resort. :)

I liked the mango smoothie, too.:) And I liked their tuna sala from the deli section. However, I actually enjoyed the Pepper Market at CSR more when we stayed there. My family usually ate at Mara though during the past trip for breakfast. I did like the morning potatoes, though.:)

I personally would not make a special trip to go to any of the resort food courts, especially if I did not have a car. I think it is a pain to take a bus to a park or downtown Disney and then change buses for a resort and then have to do the same thing going back again. IMHO, the food there is okay but nothing great.

Our last trip in May Dh was sick so we spent a lot of time at AKL where we were staying. We ate most of our meals at the Mara because he didn't feel up to moving around much. We were there three days and had great food every time. I was thankful that the Mara was there because room service is so much pricier and DH was so sick he really didn't want to go out.

I like the Mara- I think its the best food court of all the deluxes. They have some really good salads that are made to order and the basic chicken strips, burgers and things. They had a tambori chicken pizza, i think it was called, that my bf really liked. One night my bf went to the mara to refill our mugs and he brought back zebra domes for me- that's how I knew he was a keeper lol :rotfl2:
