I signed up to win a new truck or $20,000 at my local fair, and apparently my husbands was picked, for a chance to try a key to see if it works on the truck. Well... when i talked to the guy who called i quickly realized it was a RV "resort" that wanted us to come check there place out. So the guy said we had already won two of the following items, A trip for four to Disney w/tickets to the parks, $500, or a 27 in. flat screen TV and i can't remember the other thing. So my questions would you go knowing they want to sell you time at a campground ( I hate camping ), but could get a free trip out of it and $500. Or would you not go? and if you did go would you take the free trip to Disney and sell your points for the next year or take an extra long trip? The weird thing was they said we had to bring our drivers license and a credit card for proof of identity. Isn't your license proof enough?

I think that I would do an extensive google search. If the only complaint from people is that they had to sit through the pressure sales pitch, but they still were able to go on the trip, then I would take it.

The accommodations would definitely be a factor in my decision though.

They want you to have your credit card, so you can make the down payment on a very-overpriced "vacation opportunity" that is perfect for your family. They will be checking your credit report while you're with the sales people. You are taking a risk if you go that you will get sucked into signing and expensive contract that can be hard to get out of. If you don't mind "wasting" the time (which is likely to be close to four hours plus travel time) for a "gift" that may not be worth what it seems to be (altho it might be worth it -- the gift might be, if you can just keep saying "no" without any excuses that they will counter), you might find it entertaining, and good practice for going to timeshare presentations and saying no, so you can get whatever gift they lure you with. They will tell you the "offer is only good for today" -- don't believe that.

Only go if you can say "no" clearly many times, really want whatever gift they might be offering, and have several hours or a day of your life to "kill." And good luck!

I can for sure say no, it is absolutely nothing i am interested in. I just talked to my husband about it and he said we can go and tell them we are just here to pickup the things you said we won. He would be the type to walk out if he felt they were waisting his time, so i would hate to waste a day if we were to get nothing!! I didn't even set through the DVC pitch. I bought over the phone site unseen. I have heard about the timeshare pitches but have never set through one. Thanks for the suggestion Merby, i will do that right now.

Hint: Of the three listed, you didn't win the $500 and the trip will have all kinds of strings attached for a stay in a low-end dive with another timeshare tour required at destination. Really not worth your time!

I may go on one condition. NO CREDIT CARD. Forget it. If they want proof of ID, it's license or nothing. Nobody touches or sees the numbers on my credit card. Period.

Never sign up to win anything because now they will sell your contact info to all of the sucker lists.

Nothing is free, just forget about it and get ready for the next phone call or piece of junk mail.

:thumbsup2 I enter competitions on and off as a hobby and strongly recommend to anyone doing so to:

A) Never enter any timeshare type competitions because you will always "win" and just end up with hassle and

B) Set up a seperate email account for competition entries. My competitions email box gets approx 400 emails PER DAY! The vast majority are complete junk which I wouldn't want to clutter up my normal email account - one in maybe 3,000-4,000 is a genuine winner.

My BIL and SIL "won" a free trip to Orlando thru one of the same contests. They were given 3 nights accommodations at a Motel 6 type of hotel on International Drive. They were also required to sit thru a half day sales pitch for Blue Green resorts. They may have also gotten one day of tickets to a theme park, but I am not sure about that. We were at Disney at the same time, and gave them 3 nights in a studio at SSR, and they were so happy to leave the cheap hotel and get to SSR. They learned their lesson, nothing is free, (and I tried to tell them that beforehand, but they had to learn themselves!)

I did look it up on the Internet and it had very bad reviews, thank you for all your suggestions. I know better, can't believe I thought it was legit. There was just a truck and no mention of anything else. Will never do that again!! At least I found out the easy way and did no go and sit through all the harassment.
