Many Questions Regarding DVC Rent

I have never done this before and have no idea how all of this works. I received an e-mail from someone @ DIS stating that I could buy points from someone and stay at the BWV studio for like $110/night.

1. How does all of this work?
2. How do I know how many points I will need for my stay?
3. Do points vary within DVC Resorts?
4. Does it cost more to stay at WLV compared to BWV?
5. How much do the points cost?

1. How does all of this work?

Sometimes DVC members are unable to use all thier points and are unable to bank these points into a future year. These members will then try to rent the points to other people so that they will not go to waste.

2. How do I know how many points I will need for my stay?

The number of points required depends on when you are going, what size unit you want, and which resort you wish to stay at. If you have a particular time, place and size in mind, we will be glad to help.

3. Do points vary within DVC Resorts?

4. Does it cost more to stay at WLV compared to BWV?

In most cases it does, but I would need more information as to the exact time you wish to stay to be more specific.

5. How much do the points cost?

The "Cost" of the points is debatable. Actual Cost for the owner can range from $5 to 6 each. The "Opportunity" Cost involved in each point is much greater. Most owners will rent the points at or around $10 each. This amount is determined between the owner and the person wishing to rent the points. All details of the transacation are between the two parties involved.

TNRobin has done a great job of answering your questions. Something else to keep in mind is that the points needed for Friday and Saturday nights are signficantly higher than for weeknights. You can keep your costs down if you don't include Fri & Sat.

You need to remember this is a private transaction between individuals. Costs, changes, cancellations etc. all need to be arranged in advance. It's not like a regular hotel reservation where you can cancel with no problem.

Is there a place to find out how many points I would need to stay at either BWV or WLV? So how do I do this? Do I need to post a request on another board saying I am interested in finding out how much it would be? I don't want to break any board rules, so I want to make sure I'm doing this the right way. Also, thanks for letting me know about staying weekdays. That was good to know.

You can look up point requirements on the <a href="http://www.wdwinfo.com/resort/dvcpoint.shtml">DVC Point Calculator</a>, available on this site.

Keep in mind that you are not actually renting any points, only a reservation made with the points. You'll need to post your requested dates, resort and room type on the Rent/Trade Board to see if anyone can assist with a rental.
